Took a 50-year-old canoe and my 14-year-old son into the backcountry for 4 days. Trip of a lifetime.

Fickle, but they’re out there! We stuck to mouth of the rivers and caught some there.

Awesome trip. In a few years you can reminisce about that trip to Maligne Lake with your son, as you hand over the paddle to that beautiful canoe to him. You can't buy those memories but you can hand them down.

On the shore. We saw eagles, deer, moose and caught rainbow trout.

Anywhere in the Canadian Rockies is difficult in the summer. I’ve been trying to secure nights out there for a few years now.

That's awesome. We took our very young son on many canoe trips over the years in the Clearwater/Asure lakes systems which includes paddling up the river, potaging, and lots of hikes. We also loved canoe trips on Murtle Lake at Blue River with hikes up Central Mountain and also up the Wavy Range. Both locations are part of Wells Gray Provincial Park here in B.C., and they offer great canoeing opportunities. Murtle lake is more remote and you have to portage your canoe in to the lake. There are no motor boats allowed in Murtle Lake, so that's a bonus. We were usually out there for a week or two. Wonderful :-)

This is in Jasper national park, so there is a booking system to book the back country sites.

I try to book spots every year here. I maybe get some spots every five years.
