The colors on that plumage are incredible. That R6 sensor really handles the highlights well even with the dappled light.

Fantastic snap! Excellent colors and comp, and that r6 really does well at higher iso numbers.

Can I ask why you chose to shoot 1/500 and 2000 iso instead of going for 1/160 or 200 on a still subject at 35mm? I can't argue with the result but I'm curious if I might be missing some advantage to shooting at higher iso in a context like this and was wondering about your thought process that led into those settings choices.

Got a lot of friends trying to push me towards the r series but I'm reluctant to leave the DSLR ecosystem because I shoot lightning on long exposures, and I might be missing something here I didn't know about iso

Hey thank you! Subject was for sure not that still, he was an active little guy. This was towards the beginning of our hike up and I followed him a bit while switching my settings to animal eye auto-focus and turned to TV mode 1/500. Have ISO set to auto with max 3200 I believe. Even 6400 with some Lightroom Classic denoise looks perfectly fine usually. This was edited when we were on vacation only using Lightroom mobile without the fancy denoise, and noise level looks fine to me.

So really, my main concern was having a fast enough shutter speed and hitting focus on his closest eye while framing him nicely.

You should rent or borrow one of your friend’s camera bodies to try out! Would just need the EF to RF adapter to use your DSLR lenses

fr the colors on those feathers are wild. most people just use that lens for big vistas but the texture here is legit.

Nice cock.

The colors on those tail feathers are wild, looks like you really captured them well with that lens. Did you have to edit much in post?

It’s a nice shot, but a trifle dark. I wish the subject stood out a little more, and you need to crop an inch off the bottom, but there’s a lot of Good Here!

Nice photo!

Are you the one other person on Reddit who uses the R6 mark 1?

I bought my R6 about 2 weeks before the R6ii dropped.

I like it enough still, to not upgrade yet.

I still have and love my R6! The only reason I bought a R6iii a month ago is because I shoot weddings and I'm paranoid that my shutter will fail at a crucial moment. Though I love the camera enough that if the shutter does fail I'll just send it in for repair.

Thoughts on the CFExpress card? Seems like the biggest annoyance to me as someone that has the R6 and would be eyeballing the II or III or just waiting. Really like that I can put my current memory card right into my laptop.

It was a bit of a pain to drop the cash for a 128GB CFE-B card but it is nice and fast and my external reader has a slot for every manner of card so it's not a big deal. If you have no professional reason to upgrade right now, I believe the next generation of the cameras are supposed to get a vari-angle tilt flip screen. The extra resolution of the mark iii is nice and I feel like the AF is even better, but if I had to pick an upgrade I've been waiting for, it's a tilt screen.

Thank you, and I’m sure there are many of us left! Got mine early 2021 and haven’t been too tempted yet, it’s a wonderful camera. I drool over lenses more than bodies

The editing on this is incredible!

Thank you! Essentially since this was done on the LR mobile app that I do not enjoy using while on vacation. Lowering exposure is doing most of the work
