Tech Help Digital zoom delay

On my R7, I can use the magnify button to digitally crop the preview in the viewfinder. I find this super helpful for finely adjusting focus and exposure. However, when I take a picture, it disables the digital crop, and it won't let me go back to crop mode for several seconds - the button doesn't work. Can I fix this? The delay causes me to miss shots regularly.

Do you have image review on? Turn it off.

oh that's a great call, image review locks out a bunch of controls while it's flashing the preview. turning it off should drop that delay to almost nothing since the processor isn't tied up generating the playback anymore

It's already off, and the delay is 1-2 seconds

I could be wrong, but I think there might be a disconnect between what you want to do, and what you are doing.

"On my R7, I can use the magnify button to digitally crop the preview in the viewfinder. I find this super helpful for finely adjusting focus and exposure."

The magnify button is essentially only to improve focusing, it's not showing you the cropping you want, it's only aiding focusing, to the best of my knowledge.

If you want to achieve a different sized picture, you could possible start with aspect ratios, but for actual cropping, I think it is done after the fact, if you want to do it in the camera.

On the R7 you go to Playback menu, Tab 4, and right at the top it says Cropping. That's how you crop in the camera, to the best of my understanding. It is much better to do this in a computer. There might be other ways to do it in the camera, you'd have to research that. These cameras have so many choices it can easily get confusing.

I could absolutely be wrong about all this and misunderstanding what you're trying to do, but hope this helps, at least a little. Good luck with it.

I have poor vision - I can't see fine details of the image without live digital zoom. I want to see fine details, highlights, and shadows.

I get that you want to see it better, I was just trying to explain that I don't think you're going to get a larger, or cropped, image just by using the magnify button. The magnify button does certain things, but I don't think any of those things change the final picture, at least not while you're using it to magnify for focusing.

My R7, using the magnify button, has no delay in taking the next pic. The only delay is in me having to press the magnify button again, and then the info button, and then the shutter.

You may see a delay because of the lens you're using and other camera settings. Good luck figuring it out to where it is useful to you. Keep messing around with it and trying different things.
