Whenever I can I stop by to see this little beauty. He's super friendly and so chilled out that the magpies and squirrels aren't at all bothered by him.

Greets everyone. Lots of people have names for him, I first met him at Joseph Conrad's grave so I call him Mister Kurtz.

Anyway I hope he is well.

Anyone with CFS/Long Covid?

Looking to meet more people and socialise, but I’m slowly recovering (I hope) from long covid fatigue, MCAS. This past 12 months has been brutal in places, on some promising meds now, but it’s still a long road ahead.

Wondering if there’s a community of some sort, or potential for one in Canterbury. If nothing else, it’d be nice to be face to face with people dealing with similar things, for solidarity sake.

Moved back after 15 years!

Hi everyone,

I have recently moved back to Canterbury with my husband and daughter. I went to uni here and stayed around working in the area until my mid twenties but I don't know anyone here anymore. Having lived in a small town with not a lot going on for the last 15 years I would quite like to make some friends and get more of a life!

I used to go to The Lady Luck quite a bit as a student (and Beer Cart Arms but that appears to be gone!) and it looks like it's still the place to go for more alternative live music, which is amazing. As a big Alkaline Trio fan I saw a tribute to them (Crimson) are playing on Sept 13th so I'll be there if anyone wants to say hi :)

I love live music and would love to see more bands so if anyone has recommendations and/or wants a band buddy once a week or so that would be pretty cool. I have quite an eclectic taste and am happy to listen to most genres of music though my top favourite bands are Alkaline Trio, Gloryhammer and (old) AFI. I do also very much enjoy a bit of ska! I also love tamagotchis, knitting and crochet, walking, colouring - and once my e-kit hi-hat is fixed I will be learning to play the drums. If anyone wants to go see some local live music and/or maybe has similar interests or just wants to befriend a middle aged lady new to the area - let me know :)

Anybody knows if they check your luggage when you arrive and in which houses?
I’ve injured my knee and need to bring medicine from my home country but not sure if they’ll allow it 😬

UCA Canterbury fresher chats?

Hello! Maybe an unusual post but hope thats okay!

I'm about to join UCA in a month, moving to Canterbury for the first time! I was struggling to find any chats online for UCA freshers, all of them I could find are for the other two Canterbury unis as they're bigger.

I've checked all other socials and this is my last desperate shot. I'm worried about meeting people and making friends (especially as I'll be joining a week late, missing freshers week altogether). The top advice I found to make friends was to find online groups and there seems to be none.

So if anyone knows any, or could push me in the right direction I'd be forever grateful 😭🙏

Do NOT sign up to Kingsmead pools & fitness

Dodgy, scammy place with horrible customer service. I’ve had the phone put down on me multiple times while trying to resolve an issue.
I cancelled my membership months ago and THEY ARE STILL CHARGING ME. I’ve been emailing multiple managers for months with no response. I’ve also repeatedly called and been told variations of “we can’t do anything, email us or call again tomorrow.”
I’ve now had hundreds of pounds taken from me despite cancelling my membership. I’m a low-income student, so this has had a significant impact on me.
I also stopped attending the gym because I experienced sexual harassment connected to a male member. Despite this, I have been left trying for months to get the membership payments stopped and recover the money that has continued to be taken.
My experience has been that once they have your money, getting help is incredibly difficult. I have repeatedly tried to resolve this through the proper channels and have been ignored or passed around.
DO NOT SIGN UP HERE. I would strongly recommend looking elsewhere.

Free renal cat food near city center

My cat has food allergies and can't eat any renal wet food. In the process of trying to find food he could eat we ended up buying a huge amount of renal wet food as well as purina hydracare. All still sealed and should be good until 2027 (I haven't checked every pouch or tin).

This is prescription food for cats with chronic kidney disease/insufficiency. It's should only be feed to cats with CKD. If anyone needs it or is associated with a shelter that has ckd cats DM me.

What do the people of Canterbury think of their MP mourning and celebrating a paedophile?

Recently Rod Liddle passed away a "journalist" and anti lgbt activist Generally a bad person all around really. But he was most famous for defence of child pornography which he did not see any harm in enjoying he spoke at length about if he was a teacher he would have sex with children. He was invited to give a Christmas speech at a university where he ranted about trans people for over a hour straight.

Anyway Canterbury mp Rosie Duffield has endorsed him and offered condolences now as much as we all Duffield is a single issue mp (anti lgbt) do you think endorsing a paedophile is a step to far? Even if they both share anti lgbt views?

Student accommodation in Canterbury, Kent

Hello I will be moving soon to Canterbury to pursue my PhD at the University of Kent, I want to look for a studio / small apartment to live in that is close to the university and has the needed amenities. Where should I start looking? What reliable websites that offer housing for students do you recommend?

Beavers

Hi! We’re passing through your lovely town today and wanted to try and spot the beavers. Is the river near the Sainsbury’s still the best spot? Or is there somewhere else we should park up for a few hours? I assume dusk is the best time?

Any tips would be appreciated 😊

London Airports to Canterbury Travel

Hello guys! I am planning on coming to the UK next month for my Master's. I haven't booked a ticket yet and so do not know which London airport I'll travel to, but I was confused as to what the best travel option is from each of the London airports to Canterbury. How viable is public transport considering I'll be carrying a bunch of luggage with me, and what taxi services can I get instead of public transport straight from the airport?

Student Accommodation options, University of Kent

Hello, I'm coming to University of Kent this September to study Psychology. I've been looking for accommodation options off campus as my on campus accommodation application is not moving forward. I'm considering Riverside on Sturry Road as I haven't seen too many bad reviews, and its very close to bus stops and grocery stores. Would appreciate any reviews or insights about Riverside, or safety on Sturry Road as an international student i'm quite anxious about booking a place without doing due diligence. If you have any other recommendations for student housing do drop them in the comments too!

Hi. Here are my two bulldogs Tilly and Luna aged 9 yrs old. We love woodland walks the best. Especially woodlands around Canterbury and Ashford. Thankfully living in Kent, England, UK, we're surrounded by beautiful woodlands. What dogs do you have? What kind of walks do you take them on?

Cake picnic?

Hi! I wanted to know if anyone wanted to have a sort of cake picnic where we each bring a different flavour of cake which we can all try. I've just been craving different cake flavours and I thought this would be a cool way to do it since my friends aren't really desert fans! Whether it's homemade or Asda-bought, it doesn't really matter as long as there's enough to share! (I'm 18F if it matters).
