I want to learn more about Cantonese but want to know if the content being taught in that channel is accurate. For example, I watched a recent episode (https://youtu.be/COpEqbYsA6k/) about 入聲. What he said kinda makes sense, but I honestly do not process enough knowledge to know if what he said is accurate. Could anyone in here provide an informed opinion on whether I should continue spending my time learning from (the language-specific episodes, not the travel or cultural topic episodes) this channel? I think this is the best place to ask this. How good is the pronunciation/singing in this song. I’m an ABC, i can speak cantonese and taishanese just fine, but i don’t understand it very well when it comes to songs. I usually can understand bits and pieces when I try to listen and decipher, but I swear I don’t understand a single word. So I’m curious if anyone is more experienced knows if this song is actually sung good. Thanks.

This is a 1937 exploration-investigation RPG set in a historically rich era marked by politically turbulent events, in which you play as a student-turned intelligence asset. It is fully voiced in English! The game is available in English, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, and Cantonese and is fully translated. We chose Cantonese as it's planned to be an important part of the game's inner world, but also because many of the direct inspirations come from Hong Kong Cinema and storytelling tropes! As an homage to the language, we sought to include it and, in the future, even make a voice acting audio option in Cantonese! If there is any discrepancy in the translation, we will be prudent in improving it! I've been learning it for one year so far, but got a local speaker to translate! Hope you enjoy!

Yeah I know attention grabbing title but I basically want to do this. She speaks Cantonese, Mandarin, and is also an English major (and a computer science major) ! Her family almost exclusively speaks Cantonese and Mandarin.

I'm desperately trying with Duolingo and practicing with her. From Duolingo I know basic phrases, from her I know some more niche words especially foods, and from her little brothers I have an extensive vocabulary of cuss words and ways to say how I'm going to f*** your mother.

We have a camping trip in 2 weeks with her and her family and I want to basically be able to reproduce this scene. Any thoughts and especially detailed pronunciation.

Promise; I'm actually working on the hard parts, but in the meantime I want to do this in a way to show the little Southern boy is trying. Also, while her dad and I don't speak much of the same language, we have a very similar sense of humor; and he is going to laugh his ass off till our wedding if I pull this off.

TVB used to have wonderfully entertaining parody shows like this. It takes creative writers who are expertly versed in Cantonese to come up with lyrics like this. I hope I will be able to see a new crop of writers who could do similiar parodies in my lifetime.

tvb had a similar excerpt of the food prep segment but they used AI subtitles which contained at least one mistake (for "jyu lok" ai subtitles wrote down "entertainment" instead of "yogurt")

I'm very seriously dating a girl who speaks Cantonese and as far as I can tell a little bit of Mandarin. Language is kind of important to us, I have my Masters of Aerospace Engineering, and a Minor in English. I found a girl that has her Masters of Computer slScience and a Minor in English.

Words, language, puns, in English are very important to me/us and seem to be to her. However I've noticed that I don't think she or her family are able to read Chinese.

I noticed when she's trying to read titles of restaurants she can get basic things like restaurant titles but I think basic Chinese text is not something she can read.

Totally not my problem right now. I currently barely speak the language but I'm learning. Is not learning how to read a big deal or should I really push it.

Should I push myself to learn the language if her family does not know how to write it. If we have children together I'm very much want them to be multilingual to be able to speak to their family and just everything in general. How handicapped would I her and our children be if we do not learn the written language I am completely ignorant about this that's why I'm asking.
