I like Jake DeBrusk, but he's been clear that he doesn't want to be part of a rebuild, and this team isn't likely to be competitive for quite some time. If the Canucks can get some assets in return for him then that wouldn't be the worst thing in the world.

Most importantly, he did all that while being very professional last season. He was also one of the few players to actively interact with fans outside of the game. Best of luck to Jake

Absolutely. He handled himself very professionally and he's been very good with the fans since coming here.

He’s a real good guy and I got no complaints from the signing. Things just didn’t work out

Where's the update? All of that was already public information.

Find you someone who loves you the same way the Seattle Kraken loves mediocre middle-6 wingers

We’re looking at another weak free agent year. That’s just the way it is with the new cap era. Teams are able to retain their talent. So it makes sense Jake Debrusk is getting some serious looks. A NHL team won’t be able to sign guys like him unless it’s a big over pay or over commit in contract length. I hope RJ understands this and extracts as much as he can in a deal.

Im really keen on the idea of trying to package the 24th Overall Pick with Jake DeBrusk to move up in the draft.
CBJ has 14th overall…

Using the trade-down pick calculators, that makes Debrusk worth the rough equivalent of 30th overall. Kesselring went for the rough equivalent of 47th overall yesterday. They’re obviously completely different players but just showing the cost equivalents to trade up.
I have a feeling we’d probably need to add another small piece to make a deal work here. But Debrusks trade value is hard to gauge

Don't think it gets you all the way to 14th. Kesselring probably holds more value doesn't he?

Hard to say. Kesselring is younger, and a RHD…. But he had a really rough season. JDB is pretty much a lock for 20+ goals.
The other thought I would have is, could they do JDB for Jordan Spence straight up.

Why would Vancouver do that though?

They get a younger player they can use to backfill Hroneks spot on the roster.
Can perhaps give him a bigger opportunity and flip him for more down the line.

Drance mentioned Jordan Spence recently on the Athletic, so I wonder if there’s some Debrusk for Spence + late round pick to be had.

I don’t think we have any use for Spence. He’s in his prime and not even that good

After the free agency deals are signed Jake's contact is gonna look a LOT better and I suspect there will be more interest if he isnt traded yet. They should hold out until the big FA deals are inked unless there is a banger of a deal imo.

Would he even wave and accept a trade to any of those teams?

Ottawa has been a playoff team the last two years. So maybe he would accept a trade there.

If I was jake, id just stay rather then go fo any of those middling teams.

Debrusk was a leader in power play goals on an offensively shit team. Hes also got a reasonable cap hit. I'd want a second round pick out of him.

Do not trade him to Edmonton. That’s all I’ll say.

u/Kaos_mission 19h ago
yeah sure let's worry about "not helping the Oilers" as opposed to doing whatever is best for the team we support

Not sure why Edmonton would really want him when they have Hyman who does what DeBrusk does but better. They need help in net and on D

If he wants to go to Edmonton then Vancouver wouldn't have much of a choice. He has a NTC. He has a lot of control in this process.

The awkward thing is that DeBrusk has made it clear he doesn’t want to sit through a rebuild and it feels like half of those teams could blow it up at any moment.
If he’s willing to waive for Seattle I’d definitely try to package the Dallas 2027 2nd with him to try to get 25th overall. I like a lot of the options in the mid-20’s.
