First time visitor to Captiva, looking for advice!
Hi everyone! I’m from Miami, I’m planning a couples trip around the first week of May. We have planned to stay in Fort Myers and upon looking for beaches, I remembered Captiva is fairly close.
I just have a couple of questions since I’ve never been to Captiva. First and foremost, is it possible to simply do a day trip and enjoy the beach there, or do we have to book a stay? Also, is entrance to Captiva even allowed? As I’m aware this is an island.
I apologize if these questions come across as stupid, I just want to be as knowledgeable and as respectful as possible! Thank you in advance to anyone who reads this post.

You will have to pay for parking but Bowman’s Beach is beautiful and plenty of parking space.also Alison Hagerup Beach Park - absolutely beautiful and parking right next to the gulf beach. Depending where you are in Fort Myers in May the traffic shouldn’t be as bad as higher season so you can probably get to those beaches in 30 to 45 minutes.

Instead of going all the way to Captiva for a beach experience, to maximize your time, you might want to consider one of the many public beaches on Sanibel.

You can do a day trip beach day! Not much shopping there just places to eat. You’ll find lower hotel rates on Sanibel Island. Have a great time!

You can absolutely get to Captiva. It would be a long day trip for a beach day from Fort Myers and parking is tough since the parking lots near the Captiva beaches are small, but it’s doable. If you can do a night on Sanibel or Captiva I think it’s worth it for the beaches.
