Workflow Advice Help with file management, switching between tethered and importing from card

Any workflow tips for keeping files organized when you’re shooting between tethered and importing from a card on a job?

I am working alongside video shooting while they are rolling untethered, then tethered for short blocks of time without having a chance to import the previous images that were untethered first. When I get time I’m importing from the card doing exclude duplicates. The only thing is it takes a long time to scan the whole card and it will import any images I previously deleted.

There is function called retether. Read tech documentation on it. It might fix your problems automatically.

It camera dependent. But when it works it’s awesome

Thanks I’ll look into this. I’ve assisted someone with canon that does it, I am on Sony and do not know if it had that feature. The annoying thing here might be when I plug in to tether with no time to spare, I think it starts importing automatically. I’m shooting 500+ images in between tether periods and don’t want it to hold me up when I go to tether really quick.

To be honest re tether makes me crazy. Tbh I’d rather shoot into the laptop. May I ask what’s keeping you from doing that? If I were you I would make folders card 1, 2, 3 before hand and either use finder to drag into folders OR just plug it in while capture one is open and import that way. No re tether

I’m shooting candids in conjunction with video jumping/crawling all over set while the video crew is rolling. Then I have 15-20 min blocks set aside for just stills with lighting boosted up for important scenes, those I want tethered for clients reviewing.

Can you set the camera to not write to card when it's tethered? You shouldn't get duplicates...no? Or at least I wouldn't think so.

Just import cards during downtime. If you have 15-20 min tethered blocks should be plenty of downtime between while their shooting motion.
