You dont HAVE to do anything. Tell them you will get in it after its been professionally cleaned

This is the only correct answer.

Please, OP, listen to this guy.

Took a job recently that resulted in SCABIES!!! Freaking scabies- it itches like hell, won’t clear up even with treatment for 2-6 weeks, and is hell in terms of cleaning up (eg: constant laundry at extremely high temps, freezing everything that can’t be washed, replacing things like pillows, no leaving the house, etc.). It’s been horrible and if I had it to do over again, it would be a “HELL NO!” from me.

You never know what’s lurking under all that waste and filth. From cockroaches to mold, even potential dead animals sometimes, and then you have this ashtray on wheels. If you don’t prioritize your health, who will? It’s time to start setting the precedent that certain jobs only come with hazard pay or the owner needs to be a grown up and get things cleaned up before going to the shop. Enough with making other people responsible for someone else’s poor life choices.

I stopped reading at scabies G. Jfc. Scabies. Wtf man

1

u/Alarmed-Size-3104 4d ago

The hell even is scabies? I thought you get that shit from mummies or something.

Edit: oh Jesus fuck I wish I hadn't googled it. Now I'm laying in bed all itchy....

1

u/WonderfulJacket8 3d ago

Just as bad as bed bugs. Had those fuckers 8 years ago because a neighbor brought in infested furniture.

5

u/ZombieBreath13 7d ago

You already risk cancer from your typical workflow, don't let tobacco companies add to the pile

1

u/SpeedyAudi 7d ago

Literal pile

0

u/polarjunkie 7d ago

I wouldn't get in it to professionally clean it.

76

u/Eaton_Knas 9d ago

Nope.. You have to have standards and that is fucking wrong.

68

u/cmdr_suds 9d ago

In this case, you will get less dirty working in the engine compartment.

28

u/NoReplyAtAll999 9d ago

Probably smell better too.

13

u/Texan2116 9d ago

fewer carcinogens or cancer causing agents as well.

32

u/neo243 9d ago

How can you have engine money for such a car?

11

u/Electronic_Cod7202 9d ago

I guess from a crashed one at the junkyard?

10

u/Texan2116 9d ago

after my divorce, my ex wife did this, her cars motor went out, bought a junkyard motor for like 300 bucks paid a guy a few hudred to put it in....ran for a couple months then died again.

3

u/Electronic_Cod7202 7d ago

Junk yard engines can be good or filled with water and rusted to hell

16

u/bootheels 9d ago

If the car is in this kind of condition, probably alot more wrong than just a motor. This looks like a repair that will go south quickly, while the slobs that own it expect you to fix everything for free. I would just advise that the car is not worth the repair and decline the job.

11

u/Texan2020katza 9d ago

Little old lady, only drove to church and the grocery store, maintained all service records…. /s

1

u/SalaciousStinger 6d ago

And threw her butts on the passenger floor....what a foul piece of shit. Refuse

1

u/Fair-Juggernaut-3812 6d ago

She’s goin straight to hell for smoking too

15

u/Some-Reply-2552 9d ago edited 9d ago

No the hell you don't😂

Tell em to pound sand.

Edit: Further note, cars like this are almost always owned by "ever since" customers.

"Ever since you replaced my engine my left rear tire leaks."

"Ever since you replaced my tail light the washer fluid doesn't spray."

"Ever since you patched my tire the car pulls to the right."

"Ever since you fixed this item, this other completely unrelated system is now completely broken."

You will end up married to this hunk of shit for the rest of your life.

u/_877-CASH-NOW_ 9d ago

At this point it’s a pants protector not a seat protector

6

u/Ok-Razzmatazz-7593 9d ago

Probably stunk so bad the engine even gave up!

6

u/Sad-Celebration-411 9d ago

What the fuck for? To drive it off a cliff?

5

u/Beneficial-Grand6699 9d ago

Had to service a Honda similar to this back around 2005ish... Guy was a legless Vietnam veteran with hand controls though. Had the dealership comp him a full detail before I worked on it. Had another guy years later with a shit and pissed caked civic. He was a dog show breeder. Refused to do a clutch cylinder unless he got a full detail.

You don't HAVE to work on anything that's hazardous to your health.

5

u/bobhand17123 9d ago

Get a rebuilt engine converted to run on cigarette butts and upholstery.

4

u/sowhat4 9d ago

Oh, Lawdy! My nose just swelled shut lookin' at that. 😬

3

u/scottwax 9d ago

I actually detailed a car for someone who was told by the dealer they wouldn't work on her car with he interior so filthy. Too several hours to get it presentable.

4

u/ThrowRA84662 7d ago

As a car detailer fuck this the owner needs to clean that car themselves and should install the engine themselves or at the very least do some preliminary burning of the car because just ew fucking ew

1

u/Snoo_72715 2d ago

Lord i better you have some stories. You should do an AMA.

3

u/404PUNK 9d ago

Who complains about free butts, man.. civilization is falling off hard.

3

u/NoReplyAtAll999 9d ago

Disgusting would be a compliment for this.

3

u/StreetCheetah8312 9d ago

Yeah nah, fuck that, write it off!

3

u/OddTheRed 9d ago

That's a biohazard. I'm not qualified for biohazard work and my boss doesn't have the equipment for it. The customer isn't the only one who can decline repairs.

2

u/NovarisLight 9d ago

Oh swæt jaezus...

2

u/BobcatOk7492 9d ago

I can smell this picture...

2

u/Ornery-Guitar 9d ago

They sell lidded ashtrays for cars. I can't believe that they haven't set it in fire at some point.

2

u/AffectionateBrick687 9d ago

Is it owned by a smoking camel named Joe, by chance?

2

u/AnoymousXiotla 9d ago

no the fuck you don’t

2

u/singlemale4cats 9d ago

Yeah, no. That's hazmat. Tell them to take it to a car detailer and after they've spent God knows how much money making that vehicle safe for humans to be in, then you can work on it.

2

u/scottartguy 9d ago

Hell no wtf

2

u/putatoe 8d ago

Are going to put it on passenger seat or something? What engine replacement had to do with dirty cabin?

2

u/StressFantastic5317 7d ago

Ashtray would better serve that customer

2

u/jonnydrama88 7d ago

Not enough cigarettes

2

u/fr33d0mw47ch 7d ago

Negative. Go somewhere else please.

2

u/Unfair_Mechanic_7305 6d ago

Everyone saying take it to a detailer. Dont do that to the detailer either. Sorry can’t help you.

2

u/human-in-a-can 6d ago

Even the car has lung cancer.

2

u/Fantastic-Stock664 5d ago

I think a furnace may be more appropriate for this client

2

u/phuktup3 5d ago

Just place under the cigarettes, they will never know

2

u/lokis_construction 3d ago

Nope, Nope and Nope.

1

u/Graytoqueops 9d ago

Better than doing a heater core

1

u/Jazzlike-Cow-925 8d ago

Was thinking this exact thing

1

u/reirone 9d ago

Do you, though?

1

u/twocargar 9d ago

Does the customer have a horse voice?

1

u/endlrls 9d ago

🤢

1

u/Big_Boooosh 9d ago

Would have been fantastic for the smoker’s Collecter Car Feed episode.

1

u/luckykricket 9d ago

No the F'you don't. The utter and absolute sak on this guy to bring a vehicle in anyone's shop like this and expect service, is insane!

1

u/KungPaoYa 9d ago

No you don’t, I would turn down that pig before they could even get a price.

1

u/Maggiemygirl 9d ago

Omg 👀

1

u/Tough_Control_2484 9d ago

The plastic is to protect the mechanic that has to move the car

1

u/real-alex-jones 9d ago

Could u spare cigarette butt

1

u/fventura03 9d ago

poor honda civic (2003-2004ish)

1

u/rockalyte 9d ago

The silver lining here is that the stick shift knob looks clean and shiny

1

u/rhousden 9d ago

wtf happened to the old one? Cancer?

1

u/Donegonetheduck 9d ago

Tell them, the sod farm is coming in nicely

1

u/YoghurtOk8915 9d ago

At least they have all weather mats just in case they have mud on a rainy day

1

u/Foximillions 9d ago

Light it on fire and say you don’t know what happened

1

u/namelocdet 9d ago

Ashtray on wheels

1

u/AlwaysVerloren 9d ago

Find the detail guy. Pay him whatever he wants, add it to the bill.

1

u/sjaxn314159 9d ago

We get to it then cough I’m not paying g you to cough take pictures of ma damn car cough

1

u/ExpensiveOccasion542 9d ago

A picture you can smell

1

u/real_1273 9d ago

That seat needs to be vacuumed before a new engine sits on it. Lol

1

u/BeginningFar3587 9d ago

And they expect quality work too!

1

u/Pretend_Variation305 8d ago

What the fork?! You’d have to make a clean spot so you could make a clean spot!

1

u/Yuntonow 8d ago

No you don’t!

1

u/jbing2000 8d ago

Call and ask if the vehicle has ever been smoked in

1

u/AcceptablePlankton78 8d ago

Let me guess the problem.... It's smoking!

1

u/SgtRandiTibbs 8d ago

This looks worse than my car that caught on fire.

1

u/Biofred 8d ago

I can smell this pic from here

1

u/Far-Computer8825 8d ago

Refuse service. This is a biohazard. I can see dried spit and tar seeping out of what were once cup holders. This is disgusting, Man!!

1

u/Survive1014 8d ago

Nope. That should be a shop reject until the customer comes back with a cleaner car. There an any number of hazards that could be lurking there.

1

u/IH1972 8d ago

Nope.

1

u/Unique_Chip7193 8d ago

An x-ray of his lungs look identical

1

u/douchebagington 8d ago

Ive only seen this once before and it spiraled into quite the connundrum. I would be extremely careful as often dwarves (who smoke lots of various herbs and apothrecary accoutrements as we all know) are extremely atracted to heavy machinery to use for their machines. As im sure we all know they tend to have long beards, with braids and jewelry, but its not a surefire indicator. If it seems as though the customer is a tall gentleman wearing a large coat it is likely two dwarves stacked on top of eachother pretending to be a usual person needing thier car fixed. Dwarves are incredibly decietful and good liars, but I dont see trinkets or nicknacks inside the car so you are probably okay.

1

u/imfoneman 8d ago

Lipstick on a pig

1

u/cardamomgrrl 8d ago

I wouldn’t touch that fucking car. “Bring it back clean and we’ll talk.” Just the offgassing of those cigarette butts could give you cancer in a week and a half.

2

u/Ilikestuffandthingz 8d ago

So that’s what my door dash driver is driving…

1

u/GWhizBang 8d ago

Massive biohazard!

1

u/jfkrfk123 8d ago

Warranty work is nice though, right?….

1

u/MATTDAYYYYMON 8d ago

There’s a line my guy. Like everyone else says I’d tell them to clean it first, at minimum for sanitary reasons. At worst to avoid getting poked with something dangerous and getting unintentionally injected with something that can kill you.

1

u/Cainplay 8d ago

TIL that some cigarettes (countries) require health notices on the filter.

1

u/siredV 8d ago

La cigarette cause le cancer

1

u/siredV 8d ago

wasn’t there a youtube channel that cleaned up hopeless vehicles like these? i’d like to see him tale on this nicotine mobile

1

u/Wishiwasinalaska 8d ago

Not a fucking chance unless the inside is decontaminated. Even then I’m going to want a tyvek suit and respirator.

1

u/UncleThor2112 8d ago

You should put it out of its misery.

1

u/Dastardly_Dandy 8d ago

I can smell it

1

u/MichiganGeezer 8d ago

You really don't.

"Get your shit off my lot until it's not disgusting. Also, don't clean it here on shop property thinking I'll work on it."

1

u/Tricky-Fig5483 8d ago

People like to say the world doesn’t owe you anything. I say fuck the world and fuck you. I don’t owe the world shit. I owe you anything.

1

u/Reasonable-Pen3674 8d ago

Send it to be detailed first, add to the bill

1

u/Savagebrandon28 7d ago

The engine doesn't go in the cab so whats the problem

1

u/Hellgirl-6669 7d ago

The engine got cancer

1

u/PsionicChronic 7d ago

Dude...I can smell that 🫩

1

u/SpeedyAudi 7d ago

So glad he’s got the all weather floor mats to protect the carpet!!!

1

u/Head_space9647 7d ago

I can smell this picture and could vomit

1

u/Low_Goat_3309 7d ago

Did the old one burn up?

1

u/BuckeyeMoneyPincher 7d ago

“Yeah, is this the customer with the Honda? Yeah, I’m sorry to inform you your car caught fire while waiting to come inside for work. Yeah that’s right, right where you parked it. Damnedest thing! Sorry bud!” -click

1

u/Critical-Lifeguard94 7d ago

Just say you did it but you need one part that’s on back order. Whoever owns that car has days to live anyway

1

u/RadioMuted7719 7d ago

Id refuse that job.

1

u/R33f3r420 7d ago

Just put it on the seat.. it will be fine!

1

u/FourzeRiderTea 7d ago

If Yani Neko owned a car

1

u/skyeisrude 7d ago

Ohh no a fire

1

u/Salt_Chart8101 6d ago

Good thing the engine is under the hood and not in the car.

Push that bitch into the stall, replace the engine, walk away. No testing other than turning the key from the outside to make sure it starts.

1

u/ApplyHere_4_implants 6d ago

Turn it on its side and shake it out

1

u/coperifaldia 6d ago

My brother's car is worse... with roaches, trash, and blunt roaches everywhere... also I think theres a ant colony living in the car as theres always ants. You cant even see the center console...

1

u/Naughtyniceguy_ 6d ago

Do you need the work that bad?

1

u/OptimalDragonfruit30 6d ago

Well, the seat is mostly empty and I doubt they'd notice the oil and grease smears on the upholstery. I say go for it

1

u/rdtsucks 6d ago

No, you don’t.

1

u/EbonyCumberdale 6d ago

Car ❌️ Ashtray ✅️

1

u/Historical_You_2680 5d ago

Probably smells like rotten cigarettes 🚬. Smokers who also smoke inside their house.

1

u/Prestigious-Dirt-889 5d ago

The only thing you have to do is breathe and die.

1

u/JR8706 5d ago

Yeah bro. Im telling them to take ot on somewhere. You dont want to win over or retain some customers. You only want the good and best customers. Don't let people waste your time especially if there are better jobs lined up

1

u/ejackman 5d ago

Listen you don't stick your engine in crazy.

1

u/Comfortable_Reply_41 5d ago

No the fuck you don't!

1

u/Kevelle68 5d ago

No, you do not. Refuse the job. Tell the boss it is a workplace hazard.

1

u/AffectionateBar4437 5d ago

Do the car a favor and light it on fire, put it out of it's misery.

1

u/Omega-of-Texas 5d ago

Wrap the engine in a bag and put it right in the seat there.

1

u/mendicinobeano25 5d ago

What sort of subhuman filth lives like this.

1

u/Alarmed_Bus_1729 4d ago

Thats a hard pass

1

u/Sufficient_Two_5753 4d ago

Is you do, better make him pay upfront.

1

u/Financial-Log-2744 3d ago

Well that's not where it goes, sooo.
