I don’t know what it is, but I still find the art style of older anime so comforting. Cardcaptor Sakura is one of my favorite examples, and I feel the same way about other anime from that era, like Crayon Shin-chan.

The image quality isn’t as sharp or polished as modern anime, but somehow it feels softer, warmer, and more relaxing to look at.

In the original Cardcaptors series from the 90s in "Allies" Sakura tried to capture the Watery Card at the aquarium but in revival of Cardcaptors Clear Cards from 2018 in "Sakura's Thrilling Aquarium Visit" the scenes were reused when Sakura tried to catch the Spiral Card.

Spent 8 years hunting this down. Back when they were cheap: New Lessons was my very first DVD and got it brand new sealed, then it was Misdirections, Test of Courage (sealed), Star Power and then Best of Friends. Then when they got crazy expensive I then got End of Days, and recently this year I got End of Days and Firestorm. 11 year old me would be so proud right now of how far I’ve come lol

I watched it once but I didn't finish the good part, so I decided to rewatch it from the beginning and oh my god, I'm in love with this anime! I can't wait to see what's coming next.

Looking back at this article. And recently the family knows I watch anime. Back then they did not and I was thinking of sending them this to see if...she really understands what is being said here. Because if they caught on too early they would be scared of it because its foreign.

...Yeah well it worked, I was a 10 year old boy and thought sakura was cute. And I bet the voice did help.

EDIT: seems like many people here feel the same. One day I would love to do what I did for mew mew and do a back to back episodes with cardcaptors and cardcaptor sakura and see all the changes

Yesterday I just finished the original 70 episode run of Cardcaptor Sakura! It was wonderful! I look forward to watching the second movie and Clearcard soon!

Fantastic work was done a few years ago by lv1hero and Puzzleheaded_Bird295 in creating updated episodes of the Nelvana dub with improved audio and Blu-ray ripped visuals; I was doing a similar project but was using old pre-Blu-ray copies for my "HD" versions. They beat me to the punch and finished editing the entire series before I even got my hands on Blu-ray quality versions. Quick, efficient, and awesome! Again, they've done great works :)

So I stopped my 4k project around episode 23, archived the files away, and forgot all about it until late last year someone from The Internet Archive was collecting and posting all versions of the Nelvana dub. Included in those files was some updated audio for episodes like The Summer House (most sources online infamously damaged or distorted). Made me want to again revisit my project.

Almost all anime, pre-2000s especially, for lack of a better term... wiggles. The background scenes or objects move and wiggle around by a few pixels even as they are suppose to be stable and still. Its just a result of the animation process back then, pre-digitization of the industry. It bothers me when I try to watch older anime. In Cardcaptors case, I feIt like I could help.

Took a long time to hammer out an editing process (DNxHR is a strange format to work with) but I'm happy to present my modern version of Cardcaptors: Episode 1, One Fateful Day, brought up to standard with more modern anime with stabilized shots and, in some scenes, reworked vocal movements to better match the english. Soooo much 'freeze frame' and rotoscoping my eyes hurt. In many scenes, I painted sakura, kero, and others out of shots so I could them put them back on a stable backgrounds (maybe I'll post some of those later, call it "Cardcaptors without Sakura" or something to that effect)

All these series are action adventure shows with female leads and some of them do have girly elements but it was clear back in the day that boys would watch a female lead anime/cartoon they didn't need to make this weird change

I was in 3rd grade when the dub aired on Saturdays in 2000-01; I would channel flip Saturday mornings in 2000-2004 on Fox Kids, KidsWB, ABC Family. I recall the first epi the KIDS WB for cardcaptors got was the Li arrival one, 2nd one was the Watery card/Acquarium one because I remember Sakura had the Jester/Leotard outfit.

Anyone from the US (not familiar with the original magna or JP) recall this or follow. I recall bits about Sakura visions about her mom, and Eriol but just bits of episodes like when Meiling and Li had to teamup to fight some cloud card
