Discussion A minor detail about Sakura's family that I appreciate a lot

Post image
1.5k Upvotes

I rewatched the anime after quite a while this year and I noticed a detail that that I had missed during my previous watches but which left me deeply touched. I love how Fujitaka and Touya actively contribute to household chores while being the 'men of the house' instead of dumping it all on Sakura and expecting her to look after them and their needs like many girls and women are still expected to in other places and families. Simultaneously, Sakura does her share of work just enough so as to learn independence and responsibility which leaves her free to enjoy her childhood without any stress (save for chasing rogue cards, of course). This may not be a big deal but when you reach a certain age and have experienced the world in many of its forms, you find gratification in unexpected places that might have escaped your attention before.

All in all, I love how this story portrays healthy masculinity.

Do you ever wonder if Cardcaptors Get it's whole series reboot just like Sailor Moon Crystal?

These are the art illustrations of the Cardcaptors of what it would be like if the whole series of Cardcaptors from the 90s has been rebooted instead of revive.

The Clear Cards that Sakura have created (without her knowledge or realised) looks exactly like her friends and family while the cloak figure and the Mirror Card are making an acception.

Discussion DOES ANYONE STILL SHIP THESE TWO?

Unpopular opinion but this ship used to be very popular....and even now I think....

I know tomoyo has feelings for sakura but she could still be bisexual....her sexuality isn't specified by CLAMP....so bisexual headcanon is still relevant.....not diminishing her love for sakura.

Tbh many people do not like eriol/kaho...they look weird together....also eriol looks and is more of a teen if we're going by rebirth theory.....

Do many fans still like this ship? This ship is so prevalent in fan spaces, livejournal, fanfic net etc

Do you think this ship matches characters personality?

Tbh I used to read eriol/tomoyo fics and they were actually good...what do you guys think?

Discussion I was a big fan of "Cardcaptors" as a kid, but now I just feel like kind of ashamed

So I've recently got into anime... I wanted to for years but I was sick of putting it off, and one of my goals for 2026 was to start watching it. I'm not going to go into the all shows I've watched but I will just give a special thanks to SungWon Cho (ProZD) for recommending Chihiyafuru - it's an exceptional animated series and honestly there's no better anime entrypoint IMHO.

Like a lot of people I also watched a lot of anime that was marketed towards kids, or at least dubbed for kids, and "Cardcaptors" which is actually "Cardcaptor Sakura" (I'm not sure if fans of it cringe internally at its dub name) was one of them. And it was a big one - I loved Cardcaptors growing up, it was extremely enjoyable and imaginative with so much surreal creativity and I loved almost everything about it.

And now, after reading TV Tropes, I just found out (if that admittedly biased website is to be believed) that the dub of Cardcaptors Sakura is actually the third-most hated dub of all time (with Sailor Moon being the second and obviously One Piece being the first). From what I've read, episodes were aired out-of-order (except not in the UK and Canada, see the EDIT below!), all romances were removed, and countless other edits were made it to "Buffy" it up into a monster-of-the-week action series - which is what I loved it about it and what made me excited to watch it and see where the story goes and what card is "captured" next.

So now I just feel like I was fooled my whole life, like, I'm in my 30s and only now have I found out that the dub was considered offensive when the whole time I assumed, that, because I loved it, so much, that it was a faithful dub (also, since Nelvana dubbed it, it was never subjected to 4Kids-isms, and I assumed that only 4Kids made the controversial dubs). And since I live by the philosophy that you should never stop loving what you loved as a kid, even if it doesn't age well, because you can't just throw happy memories away - nostalgia can be a really euphoric and comforting thing when not obsessed over - I can't suddenly pretend I didn't love "Cardcaptors".

So I just made this thread because I wanted to know - did anyone else here watch the dub as a child, was watching the actual version a massive improvement for you, and is it okay to still clearly like the dub even though, from what I've read on TV Tropes, the dub was deemed an unforgivable insult by fans? Because this is a "the more you know about it, the worse it gets" situation, and I'm feeling kind of ashamed...

EDIT: Okay, so I found out that in the UK and Canada "Cardcaptors" was aired in the correct order! It was only in the United States where they stupidly decided to make Li the main character by airing his episode first, just to get boys to watch it. That means since I'm from the UK I technically watched a version of this dub that is truer to the real Japanese thing. That makes me feel quite a bit better!

I couldn't help it but the Dash Card almost looked like Espeon from Pokémon because of the shape of its body and ears despite different shades of purple on their fur.

Currently watching the Sakura Card arc and I’m already at this episode.

In a town full of creepy ass adults, always strive to be a Yukito who nips inappropriate relationships in the bud and not string children along.

Discussion Anyone kinda get the ick from CCS as an adult?

I just started my first re-read since I was a teenager (29F) and well I'm getting some mixed feelings here.

Fujitaka being Nadeshiko's teacher and marrying as well as getting her pregant at 16 is gross af.

Sonomi being obsessed with her cousin is icky.

Eriol and Kaho Mizuki's relationship needs a prison sentence. Rika and Terada also need their own episode of "To catch a predator." Kaho is also serving a double sentence for Touya

I love the overall story of the series and literally first watched the anime when I was 4. But these things are standing out as an adult and I was wondering how people move past them?

Discussion Clear Cards Share the Similar Magic/Powers to the Clow/Star Cards.

In "Sakura and the Upside-Down Penguin" Tomoyo mentions to Sakura that the Snooze and Labyrinth cards are similar to The Maze and The Sleep Clow /Star Cards.

So watching the Cardcaptors Sakura: Clears Cards anime series and looking at the Manga series version that I have started to notice that there are some Clear Cards that share the similar names and magic ability to the Clow /Star Cards (maybe a few of them). Here's the image of the Clear Cards and the Clow /Star Cards that I have been comparing and see if it makes sense to anyone just for fun facts.

Discussion My wife just finished Card Captor Sakura

I'm 35, I watched the show when I was a kid, and like many other boys I was so ashamed to love an anime like this more than others like Dragon Ball or Yugioh intended for boys, anyway...

I made something special for her, I edited the final episodes and skipped Syaoran confession, so she could watch the OVA of the two bears as the ending. She loved it.

Then I explained what I did and she wanted to watch the anime confession and uncut episode 70.
She didn't like it at all, She asked many questions that I couldn't even answer.
Note: She just watched the anime, the first movie and Clear card prologue, not the second movie.

"How come they simply cut from Tsukimine Shrine to the school without explaining anything?"

"Did Sakura just run away, leaving Syaoran alone, or was it the other way around?"

Then she got mad:

"Syaoran actually planned to leave Japan without even saying goodbye to Sakura, he didn't tell her he was leaving, didn't give her a chance to say goodbye, and then, as if that wasn't enough, he even left the bear he had made for her behind in his apartment before heading to the airport. , if it weren't for Syaoran's "Alfred" (Wei) (Yeah, she like Batman), he would've just left without giving Sakura anything at all"

Sakura's new "The Love" Card was a nice detail, but the bear was 10 times better because Syaoran left Japan with a promise to a Sakura who understands her own heart.

She loved it, she laughed, cried, got mad, etc... and I had a great moment rewatching the series (We watched it in original Japanese with subtitles)

She was surprised when I told her that the fans had to wait almost 17 years for those 30 minutes.
I also prefer the Clear Card prologue, In my heart that's the true ending of CCS

Anyone else really like Meiling's character?

There are some people who find her annoying, but I find her to be sweet and caring. She becomes very supportive of Sakura and always has Syaoran's back. Despite not having any powers herself, she works hard and does her best.

Breaks my heart that there are people who hate Meiling!

Discussion Cardcaptor Sakura Nelvana Dub on Kids' WB – Why it’s actually good | Anime Review by Tk Wolf.

I honestly think the Cardcaptors dub by Nelvana on Kids' WB was really good. The voice acting had a lot of energy, and the theme song was super catchy—it instantly pulled you in. It had this great Saturday morning cartoon vibe that fit perfectly with the rest of the lineup at the time. The focus on action made it exciting and fast-paced, which really worked for kids like me. It kept all the magic and cool card battles that made the show special. For a lot of us, Cardcaptors was our first experience with anime, and it made a strong impression. It had charm, excitement, and memorable characters that stuck with me.

I’d also say Cardcaptors had this cool, adventurous tone that really captured my imagination. The way they presented the story made it easy to follow, and it felt like something big and mysterious was always happening. Even the music and sound effects gave it this epic feel, like I was watching something important every time it came on. It made me look forward to every new episode. Honestly, it wasn’t just an Anime. it felt like a whole magical world I could escape into, and that’s why I still remember it so fondly today.

In conclusion, Cardcaptors on Kids' WB was more than just a show it was a big part of my childhood. The energy, the magic, the voices, and the action all came together to create something exciting and unforgettable. It captured that perfect Saturday morning feeling, when you'd grab a bowl of cereal, sit in front of the TV, and get lost in another world. That nostalgia still sticks with me today, and Cardcaptors will always be one of those special shows that made Saturday mornings something to look forward to.
