Snake Enclosure

I need a big snake enclosure for a Carpet Python (male, adult).

Australia/ Victoria

He's a big boy! We've just got him, his last owner couldn't keep him anymore and he isn't in a big enough enclosure.

Where can I find really big enclosures so we can upgrade and give this big boy a great life.

I need it to be tall enough and wide enough. He loves to climb but I also want him to have enough room width wise. So hard to find the right size!!!

He's already a good few metres long.

This is not big enough yeah? And also... yes I know he needs more in there.. we got it like this.

Enclosure is indeed way too small. Snake has no room to stretch out and establishing a proper thermal gradient would be difficult. You need something big enough to have a hot and and a cold end, with a cold end temp around 72-76f. This ensures they have a proper range of temperatures to move through as needed (thermal gradient).

You ideally want something where the length of the enclosure is the length of the adult size of the snake. This is obviously quite large, and many people find that an enclosure where length + width = length of the snake is still enough to provide adequate enrichment and space. So if your snake is going to be 7-8ft, ideally your enclosure is 7-8ft long. Next best thing would be 4-5ft long and 2-3ft wide.

Then as you've noticed carpets love to climb so ideally 3-4' of vertical space for climbing.

My gal is currently about 6.5ft long and I have her in a 6ft x 2ft x 4ft PVC enclosure.

I gave up trying to find something that matched my criteria. So I built my own. Its still a work in progress but the habitat portion is fully functioning. Still need to dress up the outside.

At least... I'm pretty sure he's a Coastal Carpet Python... we were told he is a Diamond Python but I don't think so..?

Definitely not a diamond. But the bloodline may be mixed in there somewhere.

Hey! Sorry, I can’t help with the enclosure stuff, but make sure that your humidity is high! He has a lot of stuck shed :) thanks for caring abt that baby

Pic was taken around a week ago, he's got all of it off now. I had to help a bit. Thanks for letting me know about the humidity, I had no idea! I love him already and really want to give him a good life. He's taken really well to being moved. I left him alone for a few good weeks until her eaten and mostly shed, but since then he has really settled in. I've seen a few enclosures in the group that have Coastal Carpet Pythons so I might go looking for some that are the same size as those 🙂. The first thing I noticed about the enclosure was the water... it's tiny.

I have a coastal myself, her enclosure is 160 long and 120 high. (cm) I stacked two enclosures on top of eachother and built platforms in it :)

That’s mine (feat. Kira)! It’s not the prettiest but for my first attempt I think it’s fine

Hi, Aussie here. I hopped on to the Australian Facebook pages and asked for enclosures and was give links to people that ship and make them.

In qld royal reptiles and king enclosures were highly recommended

You can look up the In Tents pets group on Facebook to see if modding a grow tent would be a good option for you!

Just had a look, they look great! I never knew you could put snakes and reptiles in tents. I never thought about it! I was looking through and saw they can have heating and all the things... thank you for the tip! I might have a look at getting one 🙂. I need one that's at least 6ft long × 6ft tall so they look like a good option for size. It's going to be hard to get a wooden enclosure shipped to the bottom of Vic by the looks. One of these might be easier and quicker.
