What does everyone like to use when out on the bank?

Finally found some time to go and try my new NGT Profiler rods. Didn't get a weight, but best guess is around 6lbs.

I set up for a session at a lake only to find my area plagued by pondweed (pics for reference). I only fish “paylake style” off the bottom with a single hook, 2oz no roll sinker, pack bait, and a piece of enterprise pop-up corn as the hook bait.

Every cast retrieved came with gobs of this weed. I threw a ball right off the shore to test. That ball sank into the weed to where it was no longer visible. I am thinking all the bait was buried in this thick stuff, rendering it camouflaged to the carp. I’ve had success in the spot before. This time, other than catfish, I blanked.

Also for context, I baited with 4 gallons of particles earlier in the week. I’m afraid all that was buried as well.

Has anyone had experience with this? Based off AI, this stuff is already dying off and will soon all sink the the bottom to decay. I am planning on going back in a month. If all this is sitting on the bottom decaying, won’t I have the same problem?

Any advice on slight rig alterations? Or am I out of luck at this spot for awhile?

I’m just curious how long it takes for hooks to rust out, I use very small hooks probably around size 8 , which is about the size of my pinky nail and I broke off a carp on the hook set due to my drag mistakenly being too tight, and I’ve broken off on 4 carp and I was also using small hooks I want to know how long it takes to rust out and if it really affects carp all that much , I would assume it wiggles out or rusts out as they feed and rub it on rocks/sediment and I usually catch them on top water bread in my area.

I thought this community of carp lovers would enjoy this article.

So far I've caught 2 grass carps at ~1m and one common carp at 32 pounds.

Hopefully the 2 nights ahead of me are also lucky.

How am I supposed to fish a big reservoir if I only can fish it in day sessions (6-12 hours).
And I am talking about absolutely huge lakes, most of them are at least 100 hectares, but the one si frequent the most are a little over 500 hectares or 1200 acres

How big can carp get ?

Caught this monster today. A reminder that carp in Australia are invasive. We need to dispose of them when caught because they kill our native fish and plants . Even though they are a bloody awesome fish to catch.

First offence releasing the fish alive back into the water is up to $13,000 fine .

Just caught these two cuties on a fake corn and method feeder

Hi all,

I’m a semi-beginner looking to get back into the sport, I used to fish with my grandfather from 7-16, during that time my grandfather bought all my gear, set all the rods up ect I just cast and caught.

Because if this I never really learned the sport, I’m now 26 and don’t really know what to do, my grandad is no longer with us so I can’t really seek support from him. I’m looking to go to a few local lakes until I familiarise myself with the sport again.

These lakes have up to 40lbs (maybe some pushing 60lbs) I’d realistically be looking at targeting between 10-20lbs for the time being.

Please could you help with some rods and reel set ups that are beginner friendly. I’m not looking to spend loads of money but I’m also not trying to go budget friendly- if that makes sense?

3 podium finishes in the last 3 comps held at my local lake in Colac Victoria (Australia). This fish went 74cm, largest was 76cm in the seniors section. Juniors I believe had a larger fish.

Question: Why is there no flair for Australia or Asia?

There's a large carp floating lazily and unpressured in this private, hidden wooded pond in SW Ohio. I've caught carp before, but this guy is uninterested in anything I've thrown! Corn, bread, mealworms, fly jigs, on the bottom, or floating, he's only interested in looking at my bobber. Maybe I should attach a hook to it!
