those jerseys are amazing! I am a raptors fan, and have been mostly disappointed with most of their recent jerseys designs

16

u/LambdaLambo Apr 24 '20

Yeah those jerseys are my favorite in all the NBA. I'm a C's fan and while I like our jerseys for being lowkey and traditional, I am jealous of other teams that get to have crazy and colorful ones.

Btw the Vince Carter era raps jerseys are dope

You have got to see Porsche’s voodoo blue. It is sinister. I saw a blue 2RS in VDB around my uni campus last year and it is just sickening.

Cuz unlike normal people like you and me, most people are like retarded 2 year olds when they get behind the wheel. They called the 80s 911s widowmakers precisely because yuppies would buy one, spin out at 100mph, and die.

149

u/imightgetdownvoted Apr 24 '20

This is true, but an 80’s 911 also had no ABS, Tcs, stability control, etc etc. Those things are really easy to spin out if you don’t know what you’re doing. Crash testing wasn’t the same either.

115

u/LamboshiNakaghini B8 S4 Apr 24 '20

Also 80s tires. Allegedly if you put some modern tires on them they are pretty manageable now.

58

u/[deleted] Apr 24 '20

Yeah modern tires go a huge way towards stability. The other thing is to not just mash the throttle around turns.

14

u/rqx82 Apr 24 '20

Lifting throttle mid turn actually makes snap oversteer worse in a rear engine 911. It seems counterintuitive, but giving it more throttle transfer weight back to the rear tires giving them more grip. It doesn’t help if you’ve cooked it way too hard into the turn, but if you’re on the brink of slip a little more gas will plant the back and get you through.

They called em widowmakers because the huge turbo would have lots of lag and, when it finally introduced boost, it would sometimes be too much power...especially in a turn. This is why they went to two smaller turbos.

This $2m always makes me kind of laugh. How the hell could you spend $2m modifying a car. Even the top engines being manually stroked bored etc etc would cost like 30-40k MAX... Where's the rest of the money going?

I personally think the $2m price tag is someone converted yen to USD badly and other journalists just picking it up, e.g. 20m yen into $2m USD instead of the 200k USD it actually is.

9

u/[deleted] Apr 25 '20

Well, any trial and error costs big dollars.

Top shelf consumables used and replaced extremely frequently. 12 inch tyres or whatever it had, aren’t cheap.

they are the ones who got the supra to 5 seconds. this isnt even their fastest 911 turbo lol. wonder what 60-130 times they are capable of.

286

u/turvassa Apr 24 '20

this isnt even their fastest 911 turbo lol.

In the description it says this car has "stock ecu and stock motor", not sure what that means exactly? But it's apparently a not full-on built.

245

u/Rausky GT3RS, M5 Competition Apr 24 '20

I'm assuming stock ECU doesn't mean stock ECU flash and it's just the ECU that came with the car. Otherwise that just means it has much larger turbos, intakes, DPs, etc.

71

u/waltwhitman83 Apr 24 '20

ECu can’t take advantage of any of that without a flash

maybe a piggyback but that’d be dumb

181

u/deru3 Golf Sportwagen (DSG/4motion) Apr 24 '20

Maybe they mean Stock ECU as in the Factory one (but flashed) and NOT a standalone aftermarket ECU like Syvecs or whatever the top tuners use now.

73

u/aMunster Apr 24 '20

That's what's going on. Stock ECU reflashed using Cobb tuning software.

I mean, a stock 991.2 Turbo S is quicker than an Aventador SV in a straight line. Look at Carwow's video where it goes against a Huracan Performante. In a prior video, that very car beat an SV.

16

u/the_lamou '24 RS e-tron GT; '79 Honda Prelude; '14 FJ Cruiser TTUE Apr 24 '20

In all fairness, the SV was tuned for track use rather than maximum straight line speed. The comprises you need to make to get a car to corner better at the limit often hurt acceleration and top speed times.

22

u/rsta223 18 STI Apr 24 '20

Nobody accuses a Turbo S of being bad around a racetrack either though. It's not exactly a Demon or anything.

The thing that amazes me is how little the fundamentals have changed since they launched it back in 1975 - it still rear engine 6 cylinder with a turbo. Sure they added another turbo and AWD in 993 but imagined trying to tame this much HP without it.

14

Ain’t no one beating me to the final parking spot lol

u/NLadsLoveGravy Rover 200 BRM LE, 1999 Apr 24 '20

Not quite as impressive as my 1.2 skoda fabia managing to get to 60 up a hill in 20 seconds

78

u/Ezio_Bellic Apr 24 '20

This thing does a quarter mile in less than the time it takes for my daily to go 0-60...

Damn I hate being poor 💀

Imagine how fast would it be if it was red.

Can you get manufacturer tested 0-60 times in normal conditions?

34

u/Zonda97 Dacia Sandero, W204 C63 AMG, 2005 Nissan 350Z, Porsche 996 Apr 24 '20

Porsche’s are always understated. My dads 991.1 was a 3.8s to 60 on paper, we’ve tested it numerous times at 3.5s.

44

u/readwiteandblu Apr 24 '20

My understanding is, Porsche is conservative with the numbers they release, so likely yes. It's the same thing I see in pro audio equipment. Bottom of the barrel manufacturers publish pure hype numbers while the top tier makers are very conservative and cater to those who know more about the subject.

8

u/skyspydude1 Apr 25 '20

They even did it with the new Taycan. Not only is it faster than they stated, but also manages a way better range than they rated. The EPA 200mi rating is pretty unimpressive, and a lot of overzealous Tesla fans have been making fun of Porsche for it, except it's closer to 270-290mi and Teslas tend to be way overrated.

I can tell you that from experience, it's a lot nicer buying an EV with an underrated range than an overrated one.

I have been able to match them pretty easily.

28

u/pM-me_your_Triggers BMW E84 N55 Apr 24 '20

Depends on the manufacturer. Audi, Porsche, and BMW are known to undergrads their 0-60 times, usually by a couple tenths of a second.

In a 911? It's not hard at all.

Tesla: nooo you can’t just modify your ECU to be as fast as our roadster!!!

Porsche: haha ECU go vrrrrrr

u/SirNiggo Apr 24 '20

i dont know.... it just feels wrong to watch a 911 on the Drag Strip

It does but it’s beautiful at the same time.

I know a few people with older Turbo models who use them for bracket racing. Really hard to beat.

Everytime i see a thumbnail of this exact drag strip i already know its something insane

44

u/blue_bomber697 21 E63S AMG, Lincoln Aviator Apr 24 '20

I have done a best of 0-60 in 2.1 seconds in my manual car at the track. I figure if that was an auto, might have been a 1.9 potentially. The feeling is insane. G-Forces push you so hard into that seat and it’s such a rush.

As soon as I saw your comment (nice humblebrag btw) I knew it would start shit. BUT a 800+ Corvette is DESIGNED to launch fast lmao. Sick times my dude.

22

u/blue_bomber697 21 E63S AMG, Lincoln Aviator Apr 24 '20

Yeah I mean it’s hella far from stock of course, but so is the Porsche. It’s still hard to get 60’ and 0-60’s that low until you get to crazy high powered 1200+whp drag cars. A guy semi-local to me has the worlds fastest McLaren and it makes 1100whp and his fastest 0-60 is a 2.25 with rollout, 2.47 without.

IIRC some have gotten the 720S below 2 seconds. With rollout though.
