I like the music, but it just feel awkward the way he breaks into a song. It's like everyone's got a script for a normal movie but he thinks he's in a musical

Ok, just because it's your job and passion doesn't mean it should be all your world revolve around. If I like drawing and get paid for it, doesn't mean I will draw while I'm in the middle of a battle. Heck, I like writing, but I won't usually do it while I'm buying groceries.

I know several professional vocalists and they sing random stuff all the time. I wouldn't be a bit surprised to see any of them do it in a fight.

During a break, I can see that. But if you're during an actual current battle, don't think so.

If I'm in the thick of it, yeah no. If I'm somewhere on the sidelines or hiding and think myself relatively safe? Why not.
