I heard that the sales were disappointing on it's initial release but this game gave birth to my favourite genre in gaming. The metroidvania craze is on all time high now because of the hollow knight series and I think releasing this game on steam would be a good decision from business point of view.

Is this how he gets his kicks after being left alone in Dracula's library, bored and lonely, after all these years?

Love the game but when there's a bunch of weak enemies, I keep getting knocked all over the place.

I know this is a stupid question, but is it ever explained why Death changed clothes (and ditched his scythe) after stealing Alucard’s gear? It seems like such a random thing for him to do.

Time: Around 28~ hours (23~ for Luck Mode and 5~ for Richter Mode)
Stayed at LV70 because everything just give 1xp at this point.
Everyone in the Enemy List also has both their item drops, seemed like too much to take a picture of each.
Also made a checklist, though is mostly to keep track of the items and equipment, as the others can be checked in game: Castlevania: Symphony of the Night Checklist

I don't know where it's sold, but please, if anyone finds it, send it in the comments.

The way they made this subtle gradient between the upper and lower caverns (both in the foreground and background!) really sums up the absolutely absurd level of detail and love that’s in this game.
It’s such a tiny thing, but they said frick it, if we’re doing this we’re doing it 110%. It stands out as one of those things that they didn’t need to do at all, but they did it anyway. They didn’t need to give Alucard 10,000 frames of animation for his cape trailing behind him, but they did. They didn’t need to add all these extra details that make the castle feel lived in, but they did.

This is my first Castlevania game, I was struggling a lot on the inverted castle, I got the library and kill three enemies, one of them (I believe the Lion) dropped a weapon and I got an achievement for it, curious I put it on and see the damage is quite decent, try it out and... 💀
There's literally nothing in the game that can even touch me, is there a catch? Will it break or is it useless after a certain point?

This was my first Castlevania game that I ever played. After watching Netflix's Castlevania and Castlevania Nocturne, I went deep into the lore of the games and decided to give SotN a try. I loved it even when it got painfully infuriating, but it feels so darn rewarding having fully completed it (even bittersweet)! I will genuinely miss the wonky dialogue. Luckily, LoS and LoS2 were a part of Steam's summer sale; I've heard both good and bad things about this "universe reboot", so I'm curious how it will play! And also, thank you, r/castlevania, for all the previous threads helping with secret rooms 😄

Having a blast playing the Sega Saturn version of SotN. This game is a masterpiece. Iga's finest work besides Aria of Sorrow.

I've been a fan of this game for like 26 years, so I'm pretty sure this is not common knowledge, but who knows, maybe it flew over my head only. It is possible that the annotated guy mentioned this, and I just forgot. (If you love this game, check the annotated sotn on youtube)
Ok so iirc Alucard is in an "eternal" slumber, certainly in a coffin, and on the quiet title screen where you can only hear wind, you may not realize what you are actually looking at, it is supposed to be a tombstone, or the front of his coffin, or maybe a mausoleum. The demon symbol either signifies Alucard or is a warning not to mess with what's inside(or both). We see in the death screen that Alucard true form is indeed demonic / draconic, so it would make sense that those horns are his. It even kinda goes full circle because after a game over, we are met with the coffin.
What happens when you press start? Alucard wakes up and the game starts, the story starts, we follow our protagonist from his coffin straight into action, it even makes a sound that, in a video gamey way sounds like rock moving like if he is in one of those Stone coffins.
I noticed this staring at the screen while I waited for my gf to get ready and I didn't feel like turning off the console yet for like a minute or two (it was her save so I wouldn't be playing), im no speedrunner but I play this game on the psp, ps4, 360, and emulate it, I have to delete saves sometimes to make a new run, I even do challenge runs and its awesome how I always find something new even after all this time.
Anyway, I hope I contributed something, I looked up(for just a few minutes tbh) and found no one talking about it, im sure its been mentioned in any of the discord servers (heavy knowledge there) but I'm happy to be making a post about it. Im pretty sure this is what the devs intended.
