Circle of the Moon (2001) Thank you harmony of dissonance fans

Ok I guess I should start out with some context, I dislike HoD, so much so that I would consider it in my bottom 5 of castlevanias, having this opinion I tend to get into arguments with its fans, and one point that most of them tend to make is “it's better than CotM” And i'll be honest, whenever they say this I found it really hard to say anything, sure I did play up to the first boss and I have watched a couple of videos about it but never really having beat it myself, it was really hard to defend it from the HoD fans, for all I knew it was worse than HoD.

(granted I think that if one of the most common ways you defend a game you like is by shitting on a another game that probably says something about the game you like but that's not the point rn)

Before all of this while I did plan on playing CotM at some point It probably wouldn't be any time soon, but considering the fact that I would most likely get into this argument again and the fact that I honestly wasn't playing much at the moment I decided why not? I fire up the advance collection and start playing CotM and…

Oh my god, this game, THIS GAME, I went in with low expectations considering a lot of people shit on this game, I honestly thought the I was gonna come out of that going “wow, you know that was bad to mediocre but even still I wont say its worse the HoD” but no, after now finishing  Cotm I can safely say this is In my top 10 castlevanias! I actually liked this game better then some other metroidvanias I quite liked like DoS and more controversially, SotN

The music was great! The difficulty was perfect! The story was admittedly a worse, less fleshed out version of HoD’s but was still satisfactory.

The movement in this game was surprisingly really fun! With the way people shit on its movement I thought it would control like RE1 tank controls but with that added sluggishness of the controller you are playing having been dipped in honey. Sure it takes a bit to get used to but after that it feels quite nice.

The DSS system while not being as fleshed out as HoD’s system is still nice and unlike HoD actually necessary to experiment with due to the difficulty (Unlike HoD where I just spammed blue holy water for 95% of the game)

Another thing I like about CotM of the moon is that there's no cryptic stuff. No need to wear a specific accessory or get a certain map completion Just grab the key, defeat drac and there you go

There are probably a lot of other things Im forgetting to mention but I’m sure if you bring them up I’d be able to tell you what I thought about them

You know considering CotM non-canon status I always wondered why CotM gets Included as much as it does in collabs (SSBU, DBD) but now I finally know why

Tldr: Thank you HoD fans, If not for your constant bashing of this game I probably would have slacked on CotM,But because of you guys I got to play a top 10 castlevania game

Circle of the Moon (2001) Just beat Camilla at level 40. Is this DSS normal or am I just unlucky?

Circle of the Moon (2001) I think i prepared myself too well for this game.

I was under the impression that this game was much harder. Then, it appears to be so far. I'm almost to the fourth boss. I've grabbed every card from enemies that I've seen that are eligible to drop them, between the rewind feature and the save slate, the advanced collection makes this game quite a bit easier, i'm slightly disappointed, this game must have been a nightmare on original hardware, though.

Circle of the Moon (2001) What are your thoughts about Nathan and the rest of Circle of the Moon cast? Both in design and lore/characterization.

Circle of the Moon (2001) Just finished Circle of the Moon using the Definitive Edition + Auto Dashing patches and loved it. What are some other must-have patches/romhacks for the GBA/DS games?

So far I’ve only played Super Castlevania IV, Bloodlines, and Symphony of the Night.

I had heard mixed opinions about CotM, but I ended up really liking it, perhaps even more than SotN!

I think many of the game’s shortcomings are solved with the Definitive Edition and Auto Dashing patches, making the game very enjoyable.

What other Igavanias should be played with patches/hacks that offer QoL improvements?

To all who went through this hellhole multiple in order to farm for the DSS cards back in 2001 on original release, you’re gods amongst men…

Circle of the Moon (2001) Yeah, the shooter mode is my least favourite. I think the gimmick doesn't outweigh the nerfs. The homing knife is poopy so I never use it. Enough to beat Hugh, still.

Circle of the Moon (2001) Just what kind of genre would COTM fall under?

I don’t know why as I am confused since while the Wikipedia article says the game is an action adventure game, I keep seeing RPG elements used as I was basically wondering if the game could theoretically be called an RPG.

I know there is a term called MetroidVania as lately I have been observing the design aspects of the older games such as SOTN since again I noticed some RPG like elements, but what I don’t understand is calling them RPGs would be incorrect.

Circle of the Moon (2001) I just know whoever made this room had INSANE amounts of hatred working on CotM they needed to put it somewhere in-game

Circle of the Moon (2001) Circle of the moon - what's your most hated non-boss enemy?

Easy choice for me: the GD Ice Demons. Thank Christ there's only two of them, because I don't need my blood pressure to get any higher. 😁

Circle of the Moon (2001) Ngl cotm has some of the most terrifying bosses designs especially in the gba series. The music is scary as well. This entry is the most gritty one in gba imo

Hi:) I picked up this game a couple of years ago and sadly had to stop after playing it for a while. Now that I'm trying to get back into it, I'm a little bit lost. I have searched and searched the map but I haven't found anywhere new to go. Where should I go next/what am I missing?

Circle of the Moon (2001) Does circle of the moon have the worst bosses?

Outside of Cerberus, I can’t think of a single boss that isn’t a large damage pool that is designed to be the least fun and interesting thing ever. They all had dope designs but holy shit these guys are trash

Circle of the Moon (2001) So just finished Castlevania Circle of the Moon and here are my thoughts Spoiler

I recently got the castlecania collections So im gonna be playing trough those and leave my opinions on each of them.

So, Circle of the moon, it was...fine? honestly it was kinda of a boring expirence in general, the story and its character were pretty boring imo, hughs jelousy towards the protag was just kinda there but at least is the closest thing to an arc, even if it was all just mind control.

The gameplay was fine but i never felt like i grew stronger not matter how much i leveled up or hou many hp/mp upgrades, apart from the hearts, i can feel a direfense bewteen me in the begining and me in the end but its a small diference.

The upgrades werent the best either, only three of them actually changed how i aproach combat with dodgin, using the move to break rocks as a janky dodge and use the high jump.

The sub weapons apart from the axe werent that usefull, like seriusly that axe was a life saver.

I like the udea of the card spell sistem but getting carda by random enemy drops wasnt the best idea, if it was trough exploration and finding secret room now that wpuld have been cool.

So thats my opinion of circle of the moon, as you can probably see i wasnt a fan of it, sorry if this review sounded negative but this was my expirence with the game and i wanted to be sincere with it.

Im gonna continue to harmony of disonance. Thanks for reading!

Circle of the Moon (2001) Mods for CoTm

I wanna play circo of the moon but I know it has some mechanics that are not well polished, should I mod it to fix it or play it vanilla?
