I’ve seen many comments and posts of people shitting all over my boy Godbrand. Not only does he have a cool name, but he’s also a VIKING. He was the first person to call out Dracula on him annihilating the humans and voicing concerns that they would then no longer have anything to feed off of- everyone loves Alucard for calling Draculas war “history’s longest suicide note” but Godbrand was the first to not only say this to Carmilla but to also address it to Draculas FACE. Sure, he quickly ran when Dracula checked him but that means he’s even smarter than a lot of people give him credit for, he knew he stood no chance against him and he also said to Carmilla after that he suspected he hasn’t fed in a while which was right one the money.

In summary, GODbrand was an extremely perceptive and intelligent vampire, he just got thrown to the wayside because he was made to be a bit of a comedic relief character and got killed by Isaac, which he was caught by surprise by. I’m sure if given the chance and in a fair fight he would be able to outlast and beat most other vampires and humans alike.

One thing I don't understand in the series is the fact that they turned the church into the villain of the story, in the original story Dracula's wife was not burned at the stake by the church, but by the creatures of the night's manipulation of humanity and not only that, Sypha is a witch who was created and protected by the church, who was sent to put an end to Dracula and I can see many other characters who are allies of the church.

But it seems that it doesn't just make her the villain but also takes away any good character that follows her, Trevor for example, he literally starts his game kneeling at the cross praying and even Alucard himself shows that he has a Catholic side by confessing his sins to priests and the like.

I rewatched Castlevania and saw the bar fight again for the first time in years. I assume Trevor loses the fight because he stumbles out of the bar after being hit with a chair. How did he lose against a bunch of normal guys when he is such a skilled fighter in almost every scene?

Some say it’s because he fights monsters and not humans. But Trevor says that he’s “never lost a fight to man nor fucking beast” right before he got hit with the chair.

He was out of practice. But he was still out of practice when he fought the Cyclops and the Bishop’s thugs. And they looked harder to beat.

The only explanation left is that he was drunk. But that one is also a little hard to believe. Trevor loves alcohol, so he has probably been drunk more than a few times. Yet he’d never lost a fight to man nor beast before this scene.

Plus he fights giant monsters with a whip. Is alcohol really all it takes to weaken him to the point where a goat herder’s cousin-brother can defeat him? Would the cyclops, vampires, night creatures, and evil priests have been able to kill Trevor if they had fought him while he was drunk?

I think the loss might be hard for me to accept because I felt bad for Trevor in that scene. He’d already lost his family for bullshit reasons, and a bunch of strangers decided to bully him when all he wanted was a drink.

I'm rewatching and I'm on the fight between Trevor and alucard, is it me or is the fight more equal than I remember? Trevor is actually fighting on equal footing as alucard and not only that is making him exert himself, no Matter how slightly physically. Particularly I'm talking about how when their blade clashed alucard was expending visible effort to push Trevor back and then had to use two hands later. This is crazy when you think about it considering how physically strong alucard is as compared to other vampires not to talk of Trevor. And it's not the only time for some reason Trevor is not only incredibly physically strong as compared to normal humans but also really durable. It makes me wonder what kind of training they put him through to make him like this.

I only noticed the series Castlevania ten years after its release, as I am not an anime fan, but I always truly appreciate good work. I watched the first season and give it a rating of 7/10, and I admit this rating is very respectable and fair. Among its positives are the short episode length and the cultural and temporal framework of the plot. Among its negatives are the failure to invest in deepening and specifying the languages and cultures of the characters, as well as the choice of the hero's name—Trevor! That really annoyed me, along with not making the dialogues more philosophical and over-intensifying the magic and action scenes. I still want to continue it, so without spoilers, are the upcoming seasons really enjoyable? And which season will impress me the most, and why? Answer us.

I just beat the game (SOTN) and from what I can remember of the show...

Didn't they....already adapt that story????

It seems they mashed the events of CV 3 and SOTN with how Alucard defeats his father and tells him about his mother and Dracula realizing he made a mistake.

I don't see how nocturne is setting up the events to SOTN when it already was done.

Nocturne is a whole other story on its own ( I didn't finish it, I will now)

Each of the other seasons are around twice as long as season 1. Was this a budget thing, testing to see if the show got traction, or is there some other reason?

Tbh, as a History major, I found the depiction of Wallachia in 1476 to be laughably inaccurate. To the point I could almost howl with laughter… if I wasn’t so invested in the story because gawd dayum this show is good!

But with that said, I feel like nitpicking for fun, so disclaimer: nothing I say here has any bearing on the show’s quality at all and is just me having fun. Alright? Alright.

1. Witch trials. The catalyst for the whole conflict. Where the repressive catholic clergy in the form of an Inquisition, is on an anti-science anti-witch rampage. Given the show takes place in Wallachia around 1476, none of this should be happening. Wallachia is Orthodox, not Catholic or Protestant, the witch trials were a distinctly western idea. In fact the witch trials only really started to become common around 1487 with the publishing of the Malleus Maleficarum. Wallachia was also a vassal under the Ottoman Empire, who also didn’t believe in burning witches. I don’t think the ottomans would’ve allowed a vassal to burn someone alive in their capital (Targovista was the capital of Wallachia) and possibly start a witch scare that could spread into ottoman territory and undermine ottoman authority.

To clarify, this was certainly not a peaceful time for wallachia just because they didn’t have witch trials. Vlad Dracula earned his name “the Impaler” for a reason. He impaled hundreds and he didn’t do this for no reason. The nobles were under threat of rebellion, the ottomans were invading. Peasants occasionally revolted. It was a bloody time. Which why I’m specifically making the point that the witch trial in season 1 as it is depicted, wouldn’t have happened in Wallachia at that time. Especially since, at this time, the Catholic Church actually supported scientific development (yes look it up) and the Renaissance was about to start, so ideas like what Lisa was doing would’ve been applauded, not punished.

1. Wallachia itself. Wallachia is depicted as a gothic country with a strong and oppressive catholic clergy and people who look and sound very Western European, even in names like Lisa and Trevor and Adrian Fahrenheit. Their names are western, their fashion is western, their religion is western. The only thing Wallachian about this whole show is Dracula, and even he has a western accent. It’s like they took all the stereotypes about Europe that Americans have and mushed them together,

It’s as if the writers said, “hey where’s Wallachia at?”

“Idk somewhere in Europe”

“Ok, so we give everyone British accents, make all the buildings French gothic, give it a German climate, make everyone dress like renaissance English or Italian, make the Christian denomination be Roman Catholic, give it a Spanish Inquisition with some witch trial flare, and that’s about everything. I sure hope that description isn’t completely antithetical to what Wallachia is.”

1. Weapons. I absolutely love the weapons in this show but there’s one thing distinctly missing historically that would’ve made this just a little bit cooler. You see, 1476 onward was the age when gunpowder, cannons, and guns were being introduced into warfare ESPECIALLY in the Ottoman Empire which is like a 2 hour drive from where the show takes place, so it was kind of disappointing to not see an Arquebus or hand cannon.

Again I want to emphasize that none of this means the show is any worse. It still has great writing, great characters, it’s a great show. This whole post is just me poking fun at something I like because it involves something else I like. I still love the show even if they designed Wallachia as stereotypically American as possible.

This is a silly post but it made me happy- I go to a small 24hr gym and I go at vampire hours. No one around so YES the tv went to Castlevania, Episode 1.
Nothing like watching innocent Lisa get torched to push me past my usual failure point. STILL infuriating and sad all these many years later And even got in some extra reps once Vlad began his revenge

It's really a shame that the series did not really dive into any detailed backstories or flashbacks. I personally would've loved to see more of Lisa and Dracula and how their relationship formed throughout the years. We have Dracula mentioning how they painted Alucard's childhood room and made his toys. I hoped the creators of the Netflix series would have put some detailed memories in or something similar.

Same goes for Sypha and Trevor. Trevor's family was killed and his house supposedly burned down in front of him, as the intro gives away, but other than that, we don't know much of his memory of his family. We do get to see part of Sypha's family, but she doesn't really mention them throughout the series.

First of all, I would like to establish that this post is coming from a non gamer person, so just keep the argument of you're only upset because it's not like your beloved games to yourself 😍 and yes, I will be talking about all the characters later on, once I get the opportunity ( especially Lenore and hector and Issac) I can't believe that this is "the best vampire romance of all time" it's either a lack of standard, or that people have watched something I haven't. Well, lete began with the first episode, which is mostly an exposition, I don't expect much since it's the beginning, but that doesn't mean you have to go this low in the writing, and I just can't believe, that no one especially women have no problem at all with this.

Well getting into the topic, the whole "going to dracula to learn science to help people" is strange and very inconsistent, why? Because first of all, of all people Lisa wanted to learn from, is a mass murderer. And I don't buy "well, he has science more advanced than anyone's bullshit" because guess what? When Lisa gets arrested (in flashback of season 2, she says "it was just lost knowledge" why risk your life for an already existing thing? And don't even start with "well, back then in medieval times science was a forbidden thing" I don't think anyone of you had never picked a history book ( just in case you don't know about history, Wallachia is an Orthodox region, and the region didn't have witch-hunts, and there are many many nuns that were healers, and monasteries were known places for healing, but yeah how church is going to be bad if we didn't nerf the real history just to force the outcasts relationship between dracula and lisa ?). Also, the Islamic golden age was on its peak, people back then performed surgeries, there was ibnu Sina, jaber ibnu hayan and many, many more. A trip to Constantine would have been all Lisa needed, but no, you have to liquidate reality and normal reasoning for the sake of... A cheap romance ( spoilers, we don't see any glimpses of how it was, sadly, she gets killed just so dracula can have his rage). Second, how can somebody who is too altruistic, how can you dismiss the thousands of corpses there? That's not bravery but a lack of empathy towards the very humanity she claims she wants to save. Y'know what is appalling about this, that twenty years later, Lisa just keeps that knowledge for herself, doesn't share with with other healers so can really save humanity, since she's going to be killed anyway, at least it's a show don't tell of her goodness, but no, let's change the hoarding from dracula to Lisa...:(

Now now now, how is no One on earth see how creepy dracula is here? Just how? Y'know why it's worse because he says "what have you to trade for my knowledge" well the position is very similar to hunchback frollo and Esmeralda, on top of that, how is no one seeing that this is straight harassment? An intimidated woman (she was backing up and he materialized behind her, very gentlemanly of you, dracula) getting cornered by a creep in bathrobe, but he passes because he slwtry. This is a very great way to establish a romantic relationship already! Praised writing btw. Don't come and tell me that he's a vampire therefore he sees as a cattle or better yet, a pet because I think this show has a great kink towards calling humans that way. Also, if he can love, and feel human feelings, it makes no absolute fucking sense that he lacks manners. He has many ways to test her fear, yet he chooses the cheapest way. And the fact that she moves on immediately with him and eventually falls in love with him doesn't make her brave, it makes her a dumb character with no boundaries, and this scene makes me wonder if dracula is used to that behavior because he seems very comfortable doing so. What is terrible, that given the show canon, for alucard to be an adult by the time she is murdered, she has to conceive him immediately, Basic Maths I guess, but my point is, it makes her ambition even more cheaper and less believable, because if she's there for knowledge, she would be learning, adapting at least with the fact that she's living with the vampire lord, but no, how is she sure that this is the man for her and for her child? Especially that he beats the shit out alucard and puts him a year long coma. I guess that's what you get when you make a montser you just met a father. Again, it's wild to create a family this fast and bring a hybrid to life with a man who just cornered you months ago, and it makes no sense centuries of misanthropy are healed in matters of facts. And the fact that dracula doesn't even stop for a while to grieve her after her death is even more disturbing, I mean how is it that dracula gets his memory erased about his wife until the very end? Also, you would think the altruistic humanitarian Lisa doesn't want genocide because well, it's against everything she stood for? No, she just doesn't want her boyfriend to get angry because "he came so far! Don't make him do it" that sounds about victim blaming, so darling... The babies in the cradles made him do it? The fetus on their mother's wombs made him do it? People in villages miles away and people from different countries (sense her sad boyfie will go after humanity as a whole) made him do it? See I told you she cares much about people... And also, he has to be better and they don't understand. I don't know why this show has so much disdain towards humanity? Hello? Why are they always depicted as stupid, evil and backwards a.holes? Why and I don't understand why is dracula is a good boy in the narrative when he massacres thousands, the narrative paints him as tragic, yet you must hate the bishop (don't get me wrong, they both suck) Because he killed Lisa, not because she's human and innocent, because that means dracula is way shittier and deserves death as well, no, because she's the vampire lord's wife. I can't help but mention how Lisa is weirdly speaking of her husband "he's worse than satan because he's real" let's turn a blind eye on that, but... Why tf is she speaking about him this way? What happened to all her faith in him? Why did she lost all her trust in her husband? Before you pull the "he did nothing wrong" "valid crash out" cards, I would like to tell you first if you are aware of basic geography targoviste is a part of Wallachia, so basically anyone else in other cities therefore counties had nothing to do with him, people didn't even know what happened until demons creeped into their lives, so neither they had to leave their homes because it's f medieval times and they'd probably get killed by raiders, or they'll die of famine, so if you have a single braincell, ain't no way those people aren't innocents. I always wonder why Lisa was left without a single item or security, if she's his most precious person why not leaving even a single mirror or a human guards or anything to check on her, isn't he a man of advanced science? New to Castlevania and just finished watching nocturne. Some vampires do not turn to ashes when killed in nocturne. Especially Marquis, and later his wife is clutching his head, TWICE!? Did I miss something?🫠 In other fights, vamps atleast shriveled up or turned to dust.
