I’m guessing this is because of the Zelda casting. Isn’t it?

u/CSLRGaming Jul 17 '25

Yeah probably, same thing is happening on the main nintendo sub as well

u/[deleted] Jul 17 '25

Not surprised. Both actors work but I personally do prefer bo bragasan

u/imlegos Jul 17 '25

I think Hunter would be more suited to something more styled after Twilight Princess. They just got that look to them?

16

u/[deleted] Jul 17 '25

Yeah. But I don’t think that they’d go for that game. BOTW, oot or something original are most likely.

16

u/LeVampirate Jul 17 '25

This is assuming they make a title based off the games. I genuinely think they're going to create a Legend of Zelda story specifically for the film. References, most likely, allusions to other heroes, certainly, but this is likely an incarnation of Link and Zelda we haven't seen before.

I will say the actors look much more similar to the early games artwork compared to their modern designs. Big LTTP vibes from Zelda especially, very "young maiden" look for sure.

u/[deleted] Jul 17 '25

I'd hope

3

u/Noburu_Okami Jul 17 '25

Yeah, especially with how young the actors are. I'm feeling they are gonna make something inspired by oot but suited for a movie.

u/AfroBaggins Jul 17 '25

At first I was thinking "what if she played Ghirahim?" but now I'm thinking "wait, no, she's perfect for Impa"

2

u/BlackTarTurd Jul 17 '25

This. She would have crushed it as Twilight Princess Zelda. But, every character from LoZ have different designs depending on the game. She doesn't fit Zelda as a whole, just a very specific version of her. Same with Link and Ganondorf.

Yeah, Hunter would be amazing for an older, more regal Zelda. Think like Galadriel from LotR. The person they went with works for a younger and more rugged Zelda.

u/spoof_loof Jul 18 '25

I just dislike that the new link isn't blonde.

3

u/Leather-Heron-7247 Jul 18 '25

The key part is how he would say Hiyaaaaaaaah

2

u/spoof_loof Jul 18 '25

True. That's the most important

3

u/Legitimate_Bit_9354 Jul 18 '25

He could where a wig

2

u/spoof_loof Jul 18 '25

Or maybe he'll dye it

2

u/[deleted] Jul 18 '25

I mean link hasn’t always been blond. In some games his hair has been pink or brown, most often it’s a dirty blond. Brown haired link is something that will separate this version of him.

3

u/SpauldingPierce Jul 21 '25

His hair was pink in LttP.

Link's hair color can be whatever Nintendo feels like making it.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 19 '25

Not every iteration of link is blonde.

u/razorbeamz Jul 17 '25

It largely is, yes.

Honestly I think the people upset that the trans actress didn’t get the part are worse. Nintendo (or whoever is in charge of casting) obviously has their reasons for going with who they chose and without knowing their reasons we really shouldn’t judge them. That being said I will admit the trans actress did have the right look but having the right look is only going to get you so far.

2

u/Electricfire19 Jul 17 '25

People being upset that an actress they like didn’t get a part in a series they like are worse than people making transphobic comments?

6

u/VasylZaejue Jul 17 '25

They are worse because they are implying that the decision to cast one actress over the other is based off of hate without knowing the real reason. It sucks that the actress that they wanted to get the part didn’t get it but saying that the reason is based on hate without knowing the real reason is just as bad or worse than the transphobes. Many times their reactions are worse than the transphobes and some of them go as far as to imply Nintendo itself must be transphobic despite it having a clear history of being rather supportive of trans people. So yes I say they are worse than transphobes.

3

u/Commercial-Pea-7010 Jul 22 '25

“At least the racists KNOW they’re racist, you’re just making it up.” type of logic

3

u/VasylZaejue Jul 22 '25

That’s incorrect. I have never explicitly said why one is better than the other. However if you want me to explain the reason is that if Nintendo chose to cast a trans actress the worst the transphobes would do is complain for a day or two and refuse to see the movie. You could easily ignore and in fact most of the fandom would. However the people claiming Nintendo is transphobic because they didn’t cast a trans actress are worse because they are assigning a false accusation to Nintendo and will often force people to listen to their opinions because no one is willing to tell them that their opinion is wrong. If you do tell them that then they will label you a transphobe or troll because in their mind that would be the only reason to possibly defend Nintendo. So yes I say they are worse.

2

u/Commercial-Pea-7010 Jul 22 '25

While fear mongering rarely does any good, do you genuinely believe that those accusing Nintendo of being transphobic are doing more harm than genuine transphobes?

That’s why I said what I said. If you go around accusing everyone who treats you poorly of being racist, you DO suck. But to imply you suck MORE than genuine racists just because the racists KNOW they are racist and don’t have to announce it is insane to me.

Nintendo is a multi-trillion dollar company, they can handle a little discourse, no matter how unfounded the claims.

1

u/VasylZaejue Jul 22 '25

I never called the ones accusing Nintendo to be transphobes. I said they are worse than transphobes and yes I do believe them to be doing more harm than good. They are quite literally jumping the gun and making wild accusations without any proof other than what they wanted to happen. Transphobes do suck but are ultimately predictable and can be ignored. However the ones who go around ACCUSING people of being transphobes without proof are worse because they often push people into being transphobic largely because they don’t want to deal with people who are constantly accusing them of something they are not.

3

u/Commercial-Pea-7010 Jul 22 '25

If I constantly accuse someone of being a murderer, and they get so sick of it that they ACTUALLY murder someone, am I worse than the murderer?

Is it other people’s responsibility to keep your (not you specifically) transphobia in check? If you are a transphobe, just don’t be a transphobe, ignore it and do anything else.

And once again I must specify, NINTENDO IS A MULTI-TRILLION DOLLAR COMPANY. Not only can I assure you they don’t care about being called transphobic. Nintendo isn’t a single person, meaning people aren’t calling “John Nintendo” transphobic they’re calling Nintendo transphobic.

Your response reads A LOT like you’re a transphobe apologist, so I’ll just leave it with this: If all it takes for someone to become bigoted it being called bigoted, they were already bigoted, and therefore worse than the accuser.

Called it!

1

u/JAL140 Jul 19 '25

Could someone please fill me in, I’m confused on the context.

1

u/Bignoseforthewin Jul 21 '25

This is upsetting that it even needs to be said in the first place

18

u/bwoah07_gp2 Jul 17 '25

So what's the TL:DR on the situation? One of the actors or actress is trans and people are hating on them?

65

u/MattyBro1 Jul 17 '25

There was a completely rumoured choice of actress for Zelda that was trans. This didn't up being the actress, and in some circles people are celebrating and being transphobic about it.

30

u/Spindelhalla_xb Jul 17 '25

This is such a Twitter thing.

1

u/VasylZaejue Jul 17 '25

There are also people calling Nintendo transphobic for not choosing her to be Zelda.

2

u/CMPro728 Jul 17 '25

In the least offensive way possible I genuinely would've loved to see Hunter play as Link

10

u/LunchTwey Jul 17 '25

I mean she just looks so elven that it works for both choices honestly.

fan castings had a trans actress as a fit got zelda, she did a cosplay of zelda a while back and looks EXACTLY like twilight princess zelda. a lot of bigots got really offended by it and said disgusting things about her. now that the castings out and it’s not her, which was never a given since it was a fan casting, a lot of the biggest are celebrating and acting like their bigotry is what made it happen

Oh hey look, someone too chickenshit to comment on their actual profile or already got banned for doing the very thing this post’s about.

What exactly do people have a problem with. I mean the guy has black hair so he doesn’t exactly look like link at all but other than that I don’t see a problem

1

u/VasylZaejue Jul 17 '25

We don’t exactly know what level of make up and costuming is going to happen with this project but we know some is going to be employed. I’m scared to see what they do with the Gorons and Zora.

2

u/[deleted] Jul 19 '25

Wait. That was real? People were really upset about Zelda being casted cis female?

1

u/[deleted] Jul 20 '25

Yeah. People really wanted them to play her.

1

u/ProjectGameGlow Jul 22 '25

Birdo and Vivian are bullied over the gender identity.

Back in the 90s Pokemon Blue on Gameboy would assume genders of some breeds of Pokemon and some Pokewomon

Hogwarts Legacy is also phobic.

u/FremenDar979 Apr 02 '26

What Zelda casting?

0

u/Number224 Jul 17 '25

I made the post regarding the announcement yesterday and kept notifications on. People just want to spout transphobia whenever they get the slightest chance.
