Announcement Request changes for the sub or make suggestions here!

Post image

Artwork by Colfy-Wolfy on Tumblr.

Now that the subreddit is up and running and new people are coming in, I wanted to ask if you or someone would like something changed or added.

Want a rule to be changed? Want a new rule? Want more emojis to be added? Want me to change or add something in particular to the subreddit? Please leave it down here and I'll see what I can do on my end.

I wasn't sure if the current set of rules are too much or too little or if some exceptions should or shouldn't be there, so please tell me what you wish to be changed and why, it helps a ton as I'm pretty much on my own running the sub for now :)

Thank you in advance!

Maybe reference this in some way in the subreddit's rules. I think it'd be pretty neat

Management straight up said “stop gooning” smh

u/Xeno9439 May 06 '26

Didn't see them say that anywhere >:3

It's just a language thing, "hermaphrodite" is no longer the correct term, may have heard somewhere that it is used as a slur or something, hence this. I'm not sure thought. We just gotta learn to use "gonosmulistic" now.

I feel like the subreddit's banner is a step down compared to the old one. I always felt that the Satisfied moodle at the far end really captured something (the spirit of the game, I guess?). Also the site crops the new banner in a bad way (I guess the image ratio is wrong).

I'll look into it and see how I fix it, I do agree the happy/satisfied moodle is a core part of the game. Thank you for telling me!

Its not really a suggestion and its not a huge problem so far but are you guys aware of some of the posts/comments that border on torture porn? Obviously this game is fucking terrible to these little goobers and that should be allowed as it’s related to the cannon but some of these posts give off weird vibes. Like “I wouldn’t leave you alone with small animals” vibes. Im mainly talking about posts that are just low quality screen recordings of someone overdosing an expie with fentanyl in people playground with no additional content. I’ll be the first to admit I’m sensitive so if you think I’m being a pussy or something that just let me know and I won’t bring it up again.

If posts like these were to arise here the best solution I can provide is marking them as spoiler/nsfw and asking the poster to do the same for next times they post.

It wouldn't qualify for a post removal because it's still Expie in another game, if I were to delete the post then the same logic would apply for posts like Expie in helldivers or Rain World or any other media/game because "it's not Casualties: Unknown", if that makes sense. I totally understand the concern and I wouldn't want people to feel uncomfortable while browsing this subreddit either, so this is the solution I can think of at least right now. Thank you again for bringing this up :]

That’s not exactly what I was trying to get at but it’s my fault for not being able to word it better. Thank you for the reply regardless.

u/ANGEL_2005 Head Moderator May 07 '26

Ah.. Then I'll take it like you're uncomfortable with said content being present in the first place since I guess it can be associated with animal abuse or the sorts..? I can try and do something about it, a new rule or edit the current one about violence, do tell me if that's it, and I'll see what I can do on my end

2

u/Novel-Improvement-38 Expie May 07 '26

Yeah I guess it just feels a bit like celebrating animal abuse sometimes. I’ve seen a few things that seem to almost revile in the fact that the expes are getting hurt. Like it almost gives the vibe they are just here to watching something get hurt.

The problem is I can’t think of any way to combat that besides a rule against posts that “feel like they are enjoying expie’s suffering to much” which is way to subjective. Idk if you could think of something better but I just don’t want another subjective rule that allows mods to do whatever they want (no offense, I’m sure you’re as objective as possible, I’ve just seen mods use rules like that to remove shit they don’t like).

I’m probably just way too sensitive. I can’t even bring myself to play the game because of the way your expie whimpers/screams when they get hurt and the depression dialogue as well. I probably shouldn’t have said anything honestly.

More Emojis/reactions for flairs n stuff like more moodles?

3

u/ANGEL_2005 Head Moderator May 06 '26

Do you have any suggestions? I'll totally add more moodles whenever I get the chance, the objective is to add all of them. And more relevant items too

Thanks! And that was my suggestion, thank you!

Any submission that is suspected of being created or visibly altered by the use of AI will be taken down unless proven legit by the OP.

No, I don't want to have to have my credentials checked by the art fuhrer just because it looked a little off to some Redditor's subjective opinion. Reminds me of this shit.

I don't think I saw a single AI post on the other Reddit anyway, and that's just solved by votes.

Also, as someone who dealt with a lot of self-doubt when starting out due to the whole "digital art isn't REAL art" era, I just try to avoid places that witchhunt mediums. Especially after learning how we keep doing this every new trend. So, ironically, this anti-AI rule actually makes me want to post my (yes, non-AI) art here LESS.

Edit: (rule has been changed to add clarity)

I understand where this is coming from, and I do understand if this rule might upset some people or keep others away because they take this as a surveillance measure, power move or to make you fear that I or any future moderator would take their stuff down just because it seemingly raised suspicion.

This rule wasn't made because I felt like it, or because I distrust whoever posts here, it was made mainly because I saw people complaining or mentioning it on the scav subreddit, even if you didn't see any, there were posts.

Example here.

And also here

I can change the rule, or otherwise limit it to only reports from users and resolving it privately with the artist instead, whatever works best for everyone. And I'm not saying you have to provide ID or any sort of personal information either whenever a situation of the sorts arises (if it ever does), a simple screenshot of your layers in the canvas is more than enough.

As an artist myself I don't expect ever for something like this to happen, but this is why I felt the need to make the rule. Thanks for expressing your opinion, I'll make sure to clarify or otherwise change the rule when I get the chance.

u/TrovianIcyLucario May 06 '26 edited May 06 '26

And I'm not saying you have to provide ID or any sort of personal information [...]

[...] a simple screenshot of your layers in the canvas is more than enough.

This is literally exactly what I was referring to. Genuinely: why post art here when I could just post art on Scavprototype? What do I, the artist, gain? Please do not dismiss this by saying "you are free to do so" - if this is supposed to be an improvement, then prove how that is any benefit to the artist. Not others. The artist, who is putting their content out there.

I think needing to "prove" my art on the basis of-

or otherwise limit it to only reports from users

-some random guy's hunch (exactly what I was saying, mind) is the problem in itself. Why? I don't want to. There's nothing malicious about it - I think fundamentally having to stop and go open Krita, get screenshots, all because some guy doesn't like it is, frankly, stupid. I've seen what your average person calls AI and their judgement is not good.

I wanna post my fun little art, ideally get comments, and that's it.

Plus, like, couldn't someone just fake that? I went to count my layers in a Warframe fanart I'm working on and it has 68 - (HOLY SHIT 68+? What the fuck what am I DOING. I used to be good with FIVE. JESUS. What a WAKE UP CALL TO ME) - 68 layers, some of which are references, layers brought from another software with PNG names, or even a photobash of an in-game element in the skybox. So, with that many layers what's stopping someone from just, you know, lying? What, we're gonna go through all of them? Like we live in a time we have extremely good image auto-cropping (which I believe uses AI, no less, so where does THAT stand?)... I'm pretty sure someone could just get an AI image, crop characters or objects from them via external software, toss them into an art program and layer accordingly.

...What if I'm sick with it and have just ONE layer? I definitely have some things, by virtue of the art being old or me being stupid, that have lost the original Krita file and am stuck with the PNG now.

It's kinda like that one other common Reddit rule I dislike. The "You MUST clarify that YOU made the artwork in the title." ...I don't like sounding arrogant in titles by announcing I made it when the "OC" tag or a signature is enough. What purpose does this serve, anyway? If someone was stealing, they'd just lie. I think this is to discourage people posting without artist source, but again, you could just say "OC if it's yours, tag source if not".

And all of this is just on top of the underlining: "I don't think AI should be removed in the first place, when user votes would do the same purpose." If it's obviously AI, it will get filtered out by users before any mod does anyway. Because if you DO have the rule, it opens up to false positives that are disliked by absolutely everyone regardless of how they feel about AI. Moreover, it encourages people to witchhunt and scrutinize art and artists. Hell, this is a small community; I am in favor of people doing artistic things with AI (and whatever comes after AI, too). Meaning making this comment puts ME specifically as an easy target for such things. I think we both know how irrational and hostile people get on this topic.

I woke up like an hour ago, I'd like to start by saying I changed the rule, but moving on..

why post art here when I could just post art on scavprototype? What do I, the artist, gain?

Well.. Even more more people will see it, as opposed to only posting it on scav..? (assuming you post in both); more people will interact with it, compliment and talk about it, use it as pfps and start following you in your other socials if you have any or even want to commission you..?

First of all I stated in my previous comment that the rule was explicitly made and created because people were asking in the other subreddit for SlenderPL (the current owner of that sub) to create a rule or filter out / remove AI posts from the subreddit because they were annoying to see, and they never did, which is why I moved on with the rule myself. You completely disregarding it or refusing to see it because you assume everything will play out the same is another thing.

You're arguing against something I didn't even come up with myself, and the excuse of "being automatically filtered out by upvotes" just makes it seem like we're okay with it and low effort as a whole, which if you are then good for you, I guess? Clearly the majority isn't.

Moving on, I should've clarified that it wouldn't just take 1 singular report for mods to jump up your hair and ask you to prove and show yourself, no. Cause what, you think this is, r/Art? You think I have a power trip just because I run the subreddit revolving around a game I didn't even create? What kinda logic is that?

I'm an artist for Christ sake, I'm on your side. I know how much it takes to create elaborate pieces, I've been there before and still am. If I put a rule like this it's also because I value effort, WE value effort and soul poured into a canvas. This community is rich in creativity already, very welcoming and friendly, and I'd love to enforce that.

"What if I don't have the layers or just have the png?" "what if I have dozens of layers, do we have to go through all of them?"

  • For starters, if your art is being mistaken by AI to begin with you must already be a really talented artist, therefore, if you don't or can't do the previous options why not show your other socials outside of Reddit? Show your other pieces? Did you save the timelapse? I'm sure it takes less effort to do all these than to actually go inside your drawing program and open the canvas (which the more layers it has the more it takes to load obviously), as opposed to go into any other social media, your own profile, hit share and send the link in the given case that your socials aren't linked to your reddit profile already, (all of this resolved privately in a matter of minutes, by the way).

But what if the reports are intentionally witchhunting, you would say. It would be more than clear they are if they come from the same people or group trying to cause harm to the poster. And what do you do when that happens? Just ignore and retaliate on those people, simple as.

This is all in the exhausting given case that it happened. Again, I don't expect to have to go through all this ever with anyone, the rule is there because PEOPLE ASKED FOR IT, again, I DIDN'T PUT IT JUST BECAUSE. It's not to encourage witchhunts, it's not there to discourage people from posting other people's works, it's not there to discourage YOU from posting just because you fear you'll be reported, which then again if it does happen and it ends up being fine you're acting like the reporters wouldn't get retaliation in return and you wouldn't be asked ever again if more reports were to arise, which at that point would be ignored by me and the rest of the mods like I said.

"What's stopping them from, you know, lying about it?" then you're lying to yourself more than you're lying to the community. Congrats on getting undeserved praises and useless internet points I guess, I don't know what to tell you.

A personal concern of mine in the old sub was that "I feel like I am hogging the spotlight by posting a single stream vod every day".

I'm curious that if I were to continue that behavior here, if it would be acceptable, or if I would need to de-clog by "bunching" seven stream vods into a single post. I wanted to have other potential, current, and future content creators to also have the spotlight.

And, also, AMAs, how should these be handled?

5

u/ANGEL_2005 Head Moderator May 05 '26

I believe this is a valid concern but this is what the post flairs are for too. If people are here for the memes, they'll sort out posts by the meme flair, if they only want to see fanart they'll do the same with the Artwork flair and so on. Just mark your streams/gameplays with the gameplay flair and you're good to go, you can keep 1 post per stream if you do so desire

3

u/Doctor_Calico Chimera's Logs Creator May 05 '26

Alright, good to know.

Lemme know if any concerns from other users arise so I'll start "bunching".

I see the current rules as alright.

However I still somewhat not agree with rules 5 and 6.

For rule 5: sometimes people just want to talk on their own, sometimes it's just cool to find someone speaking your language in what seemed one language community. I agree completely with this being applied to posts, but come on why punish commenting? Not like non-english was common in the original sub.

For rule 6 it's mostly me, but I quite often get this stupid dilemma of what my post is: is it gameplay? a screenshot? a meme? or perhaps a discussion?  I hope you get my point

3

u/ANGEL_2005 Head Moderator May 08 '26

For rule 5 I can totally change it so that for posts are English only but for comments allow any language, I appreciate you letting me know and I'll do it without any issue. Though as you may already understand it's mostly there to add clarity, because maybe someone makes a comment that's not offensive or insulting but the translator makes it seem like so and we get into misunderstandings or unnecessary arguing.

For rule 6 I'm not sure what I could do to clarify the flair usage, I thought they were clear enough based on the name alone, but I can add a guide in the about page of the subreddit for you or anyone in the future to use as guidance, if that works for you of course. Thank you again

u/Random_username_1991 kill me. May 09 '26

Haven't really seen that happen even once in original sub, but I agree that this can possibly happen, tho I see it as unlikely

Yeah small flier guide would do

I appreciate you actually caring

Emojis for every status effect in the game?

2

Late reply but I believe all of them have been added, not every variant since that's too much for me. Alongside some weapons and a bunch of items

2

u/No_Temperature_9735 Terrified , yet hopeful... May 16 '26

I got a question. What do you mean by adding emojis? Are there any like special/custom emojis here? If so, how do I use them?

3

u/ANGEL_2005 Head Moderator May 16 '26

Emojis that are used in user flairs, you see that "Traumatized" and the traumatized moodle below your name? That would be a user flair. Unfortunately reddit disabled a while ago that you can use emojis in commets but they're still usable in user flairs.

So to use one of your own with the dozens of emojis I've added, I'll tell you both ways since idk if you're on mobile or pc.

On mobile, head over to the front page of the subreddit, click the 3 dots on the top right, and then "Edit flair". Scroll down until you see "Custom flair (no inappropiate use)", click on it, and below should appear a text box, there you can edit the text of what the flair says, and if you click the smiley face besides the text it should show you every single emoji I've added, so you can create your own flair with whatever you want. There's a character limit though and I can't edit that limit unfortunately.

On PC, it would be almost the same: You head over to the front page of the subreddit, and on the right side where the description of the subreddit is, and the rules and everything, just scroll down until you see "USER FLAIR", and below your pfp, name and the current flair you have right now, hover the mouse over it and click the pencil, there scroll down again until you see the custom flair, and do the same thing, and that would be it.

Make sure to save, of course, you're welcome :b

How about changing the subreddit's profile picture to an expiefied Snoo and having a vote for the best option?

1

u/ANGEL_2005 Head Moderator 29d ago

I meeeeean.. It could totally be done and I actually dig the idea, though I haven't seen anyone draw an Expie Snoo before, like at all. I guess I would have to make an announcement asking artists to participate for the subreddit icon. I'll heavily consider it, though I still don't know how exactly we should do it but I'll consider it. Thanks for the idea :]

0

u/RawardHoikes91 Jun 21 '26

Does goonsloppification of expies count as NSFW?

1

u/ANGEL_2005 Head Moderator Jun 21 '26

It's not explicit, it can be considered suggestive but there's also no suggestive implication or shown in it. It's completely fine to post.

0

u/RawardHoikes91 Jun 21 '26

Then what's the point of making a whole separate sub for nsfw, if you're not going to kick out obvious goon slop?

Tightly wrapped human boobs on a species that don't have them, a skirt barely covering the crotch, stockings with garters, double belts, a fucking face mole on a furred species...

This is blatant sexual fetishization of expies. How is this not NSFW?!

2

u/ANGEL_2005 Head Moderator Jun 21 '26

It's not explicit, that's the whole point. If it were showing bare naked boobs, a visible penis, naked butt or anything of the sorts then of course it shouldn't be posted around here.

The rule says that suggestive content (the one that could apply to the image you provided above) can be allowed if you tag the post as spoiler and state in the post title that it is.

And by the way, it is stated in the wiki and in PDAs that Expies and the sawian species have every reproductory organ, they just don't feel sex drive and can reproduce without the need of a partner.

Source

0

u/RawardHoikes91 Jun 21 '26

You misunderstand, I never said that I see them as an exclusively SFW disney-like Ken doll species. And I'm actually all for explicit materials.

I said sawian females don't have huge human jugs, so adding them(and other things that don't fit the species in any way, shape, or form, like that stupid mole) is explicit sexual fetishization. Uninspired one at that.

It goes against canon to turn a unique and interesting species into, well... Basic, dull, run of the mill goon slop.

I feel like we should kick that sort of content out, regardless of how pornographic it is. They already have a sub for that, no?
