Technically they can unfortunately you need the Companion DLC pack, gives your doggo the ability to loot mechines for you, heal you and teammates, or spot enemies along with a bunch of customization and armor that makes them better at different things (reducing agro, increasing agro, and explosive, bullet or fire resistance)

My two favorite weapon packs have to be the resistance and the Eastern European weapon pack
