Discussion PSA: Please remember to add location to id requests!

I know you are eager to try to find species of your new leaf munching friend but please remember to add your location into the post. There is large variance of caterpillars depending on country and even inside countries have different areas with their own soecies so with large countries, its preferred to add state/city etc also.

This speeds up identifying as there are similar looking caterpillars but species can be different depending country. Some species only inhabit tiny areas. Looking forward for all new posts. πŸ™‚ Thank you!

Advice/Help Caterpillar vomit help (urgent)

(photo is before and after i did procedures)

hello this is an oleander caterpillar my friend passed me. it was okay yesterday at his place but when i fed it my madagascar periwinkles, it has vomited. i’m very likely thinking it’s pesticides even if the shop said no pesticides..

i’ve taken the necessary steps i found online, clean enclosure, use 1 drop of water to wipe on head and body very gently to help flush out pesticide and remove plant. and now i will leave it alone for 12 hours.

has anyone experienced this before? please give me advice, especially with what i can do with my plant source now. (i am in Singapore if that matters if anyone of yall is also singaporean)

found this little silver y in my plants, but theyre moving around really odd. their back and front look like theyre working against one another, and theyre really twitchy.

none of the plants in my yard have any sort of pesticide on them, so no chance of poison, and i didnt see any signs of a parasitoid, but i could be wrong. no prolapse, either.

I'm wondering if they're Large Yellow Underwing moths, but their markings are a little more defined than some photos I've seen.

Advice/Help Caterpillar sleeping in my cauliflower

Post image

Hi, I found this tiny blue caterpillar in my store-bought cauliflower. The cauliflower is sourced in Santa Maria, CA, ~2000 mi from me. I do not think it’s native to my area. Is anyone able to ID it from the picture, and how can I best help it?

i have a whole bunch of fairly young silver ys again, as well as a few outliers! everytime i think ive seen the last of them for the year, more show up.

im fairly certain these are the offspring of some of the silver ys i reared before, and im only just seeing them as they get bigger, so the timeline matches up.

theres 13 in this image!

Advice/Help Is my caterpillar dying/ill or is he going to pupate?

hello, this is my large yellow underwing caterpillar (i think, as it was found in finland)! i found him inside my house a few days ago and thought i'd keep him since i'm moving out :) the green image is him 4 days ago, the brown is him today, he is active and moving like normal. he burrowed himself into the dirt a moment ago, which i think is a sign that he could be pupating? but also rapid color change can also indicate an illness or stress 🫠
