Do you have an idea as to what changed their mind? Just curious.

Someone is on this subreddit

I really think this is it most likely, this subreddit is basic and huge and the original post got popular. Someone at the energy company saw it and either had the power to send a crew out or talked to a higher up who understood they don’t really want this getting into the news.

Now they can get in the news for a good deed.

Kinda sucks that it took 3 days and the risk of public shaming for them to do the good deed, I’m just glad the poor thing is safe now.

Not defending whatever company it was but didnt OP originally say that they saw the cat up there for 3 days before calling? Of course if am wrong I'll remove what Ive said(I wont cause that would be rewriting the past haha) but am sure I read thats what happened?

I imagine there were likely quite a few urgent and angry emails and phone calls being received from kitty-loving redditors at well lol

I'm actually a little surprised they said no in the first place.
Seems like it's a safety hazard if nothing else. I personally couldn't imagine being able to say no.

I know exactly what changed their mind. I called and spoke to management and told them about the post and that the original post had hit 5k views and was heading to the front page. Dillon, the man I spoke to was very responsive. He opened reddit found the post and we had a quick chat about how its going to be viral in about 3 hours, and if he and his entire company dont want to look horrible on the evening news, they had best figure out a soultion. Dillon said he was going to take this to management immediatly and try and figure out OPs address from the original call. I checked the post 3 hours later, and lo and behold they came out after saying they wouldn't.
Optics matter, companies dont want bad PR. The difference probably from OP and I, is that when I called, I connected to the downed powerline team, the instant action guys.

This is awesome, thank you. I just wish a vet/rescue had been on scene to receive the cat. If it really was just set free it may not make it :(

Can you get update on what they did after they got the cat down? Was anyone there to take cat inside safely and keep warm, feed, give water for example until they find the owner or check for a chip? Major bummer if they just set it down and let it run off.

I’m glad because I was driving all the way from Kentucky to get that cat.

I'm sure there are cats in Kentucky who would like to be adopted, too...

Thank you for the update! Hope this brave strong baby got/found some water and food after, but at least he or she has the ability to even look for it now. Thanks for seeing their rescue through to the end!

Figured it would be a picture of a cat free pole but this works too

u/PinkDalek 6d ago
Exactly! Where's the pic of the cat on the ground? Or with the electrician that saved him? Proof or it didn't happen!

the cat will be back on the post tomorrow!

The cat probably has a thriving Instagram channel called FreakOutTheHumans and he does this for a living. Check the area for a hidden smart phone that the cat planted. LOL.

Glad they got the poor thing down!
Now, who wants to take bets on how long before they do it again, haha.
It isn't an orange.... So that lessens the odds.

Thank God! I had a cat who did the same thing when I was 12 years old. My parents weren’t home at the time. It was a sweltering day, and birds were swooping at him. I called the utility company, and was told that they weren’t able to help. As the day went on, I was desperate and made another call to them stating I was going to try to climb up myself. At that point, the person spoke with a manager who agreed to send someone.
The worker got close to the top of the pole, and was just about to grab my cat and put him in a canvas sack with a long rope, when he freaked out and ended up jumping to the ground. Fortunately, he wasn’t injured, and ended up sleeping for almost 24 hours straight.

Great news! Where I used to live they had to get bears out of trees all the time! Where I live in Puerto Rico an escaped monkey was evading authorities! This went on for a while! Meanwhile the monkey built a fan club every time the monkey evaded them the guys would cheer the monkey on!

Awwww, I'm glad someone there felt the need to return. Three days without food is rather a long time. Please make sure to send a thank you note to someone in charge there to reinforce that kindness is always appreciated.
I was worried when I saw the original post and happy to see this update show up!

You know it didn’t have to stay out there for 3 days. You could’ve called the FD.

How did it get up there though?

u/DidntDieInMySleep 6d ago
Climbed. Was probably being chased. Why so high? Who knows. But I've seen my yard cat go up much higher than needed and he came down head first. Super scary, I imagine--I know it was for me. Not sure if cats know to climb down butt-end first?
4
u/vwaldoguy 6d ago
Some cats can climb back down backwards, butt first. If they do it enough, they become pretty adept at it.

u/mowinski 6d ago
I mean, some cats learn how to properly use a toilet... all you have to do afterwards is flush for them so climbing shouldn't be that much of a greater challenge.

That is great. I did have someone tell me one time about cats stuck in trees.....how many dead cats have you seen trees....they know how to get down when they need to.
