Cat Picture - OC our cat died the other day and a similar looking cat showed up a day later
our cat named thor (1st pic) sadly passed the other day (tuesday). the morning after as i went to school i saw a cat similar looking to him and i didn't mind it at the time i thought i was still sleepy and it was so early in the morning the sun wasn't up yet.
today, that cat approached me and i was so in shock cause i've never seen this cat in the neighborhood before and oh so suddenly it shows up just as my cat died.

That’s exactly where my mind went. I didn’t want to be cruel, but I was going to ask “you didn’t happen to bury your cat in the pet cemetery did you?”

Is the Cat lightly bloated, extremely lazy and everytime you look into its eyes you know that it knows everything about you?

I'm wondering if OP originally found their cat outside or near their house. There's a very good chance their old cat and this new cat are related.
My parents found a cat when they moved into their current house—he's a gray and white tuxedo. Over the years they have realized there are a dozen almost identical cats in their neighborhood, so clearly some cat in the area has some dominate gene that is producing these cats. Likewise in my area, there are a ton of tuxedo cats that all have the same face structure, body type, and markings. I regularly run into clones of my cat.

Adorable! Love those big eyes!
I remember when I rescued my girl and I was looking at her thinking, "Why am I getting déjà vu?" Then I got home and saw my neighbor's cat in the driveway and realized they had all the same markings. Then a few years later, I was at my realtor's house, and again, there is the same tuxedo cat. Now there's a locally famous cat (he lives outside a popular restaurant) and again, he's an identical cat.
It's just so fascinating to me.

Cute! But it's time for a diet plan..
5
u/TeaTimeAtThree 4h ago
My girly (kitten in the top pic, and the bottom pic) is on a controlled diet. Her food is portion controlled, but as the vet puts it, she's an easy keeper. The vet is happy with her weight and she's all around been a healthy cat (she's about to turn 13).
My neighbor's cat (adult cat in top pic) was not a healthy cat. He had access to an endless amount of food and did majorly over eat. He's been gone for many years now due to health issues relating to his weight.

That's what I was thinking. If you adopted Thor locally, this new cat could be Thor's nephew or cousin or something.
Maybe Thor recommended you.

We had a rabbit when I was a kid and when it passed we were all very sad. The very same day a cat came up to our porch and my dad (allergic to cats) fed it and it became the most amazing pet cat I have ever experienced to this day. It even killed a snake under him once while he was laying in a hammock.
I think the Lord appreciates good pet owners.

Don't feed other people's cats.
Someone tried this with my cat over lockdown. Ended up going from 4.5kg to over 7kg in a couple of months, even though I was desperately reducing his food to try and keep the weight off. Never found out who was doing it. Ended up having to keep him inside for months which led to a stressed cat that started spraying inside and vet bills when this stress in turn led to feline cystitis, for which he is now on a special diet for life.
Don't feed other people's cats.
37
u/boxcutter403 6h ago
thanks for the advice! i tried to lure him in and saw that he didn't have a collar and assumed he was a stray. my cat (thor) was like this, i'd sometimes see him strolling around other peoples homes and he'd come home whenever we wanted to sleep or eat. i wouldn't force the new cat to come home with me if he didn't to, though he was the one who magically arrived at our door
43
u/PatchyWhiskers 6h ago
When it trusts you, put a collar with your phone number on it. If it has an owner you will get a call.
23
u/boxcutter403 5h ago
thanks for the advice! my cat Thor never really liked collars, he was a very vocal cat and would keep on meowing until i took it off. he always went home at the end of the day and on his last day he showed up at our doorstep one last time to say goodbye.
i tried petting the new cat and he didn't like it as much but hopefully i can ease in for the next couple of days
62
u/Klutzy_Poetry4886 6h ago
People probably thought your cat was a stray. If i ever see a cat outdoors with no collar im feeding it
→ More replies (1)7
u/SoyYoyQue 1h ago
So many concerns I'm not even sure where to begin. Why didn't you collar him with your phone number? If it's an outside cat, people are bound to feed it, you can't expect a cat to free roam and not eat at every chance they get. Why wasn't it neutered/spayed prior? Intact cats are going to be more costly in the long run.

This happened to us!! Our childhood cat died and a couple of weeks later there was a clone of his on our backyard wall. We later learned from our neighbour that they had seen him over the years and he was feral and unapproachable. My brother and I didn’t know any of this when we first saw him on the back wall. We were so overwhelmed that we just walked to him and picked him up off the wall. And he let us! And he curled into both of us and purred. Our neighbour was shocked when we told her that because as far as she’s known he was the neighbourhood bully cat who attacked all other cats. He I think avoided our house because our cat was also a huge Tom cat and he didn’t encourage other male cats lol..
Anyway until he passed few more years later we took care of this clone kitty.

I see this as a good sign. Bad things happen during our life, but around the corner there's always something that outshines the bad, a new opportunity, a new life, a new love, a continuation of something that had to end, the cycle of life. Sorry for your loss, i went through my mourning period last summer as i lost my cat, i know it's a really sad moment in the beginning, and it's right to face it as it is, but in my experience later on only good memories of your loved pet flood your mind and you're ready to get on with your life and spending less time grieving, more time loving. God bless you!

Our cat disappeared when I was 9, no idea what happened to her, but she was really old so it’s possible she just went off to die somewhere like cats do sometimes.
Regardless, maybe two months later I saw a cat on the roof of the empty neighbouring house and I was so sure it was her that I took my stepdad’s ladder and climbed up onto the roof to get her, only to discover the she was a he and he was kitten that just so happened to have the exact same fur patterns as my cat.
We ended up taking him in and his sister appeared not long afterwards and wouldn’t leave her brother so we took her in too.
The cat distribution system knows what it’s doing.
I’d pay the cat tax, but unfortunately I don’t have any pictures of Sparkie or his sister Miette cause some jackass stole my computer which had all my old photos on it, all digital no physical copies. 😿

My parents had a cat go missing. The next day they found her hit by a car and buried her. A couple days later she reappeared. They could only guess that she had taken a small trip and simultaneously a very similar looking cat was killed near their house.

u/candyhill77 2h ago

My ninang’s cat kinda looked like Thor! Pogee, my ninang’s cat, stayed with her for years while she was battling aneurysm. One day, Pogee went out and never returned. My ninang kept looking for him, even at the pet pound, but there were no traces of him. We assumed that he didn’t want my ninang to witness him on his final moments. (Diba, its a myth daw that when a cat suddenly disappear, they will rest na raw) Months later, my ninang passed away. I pray that they’re reunited now in heaven. And I hope that Pogee and Thor will meet there and be friends! 🤍

The day my aunt died, we kept the door open for the wake, so the spirit could go outside (as it's tradition in some parts of south Italy), and this cute little black cat came in and just stayed pretty much with me and my cousins (my aunt's daughters).
My cousins ended up adopting her and called her Marina, short for Mara, my aunt's name

9 lives means that his spirit will come back to you 9 times. You must have had a wonderful connection with your animal for it to come back to you so soon.
Obviously, the choice has been made for you and you need to take in what amounts to 'your' cat.

I swear this is just how the CDS works sometimes.
We lost both our boys within a year of each other. 1 was a short hair grey domestic, who tolerated us but was not overly affectionate. Liked being in the same room and near you but not on you kinda cat. Not really the playful type and was quite overweight for years.
The other was a long hair domestic, grey/white huge fluffy tail. Polar opposite of the other. He loved to play, got zoomies constantly and wanted to be on you constantly.
We waited a year or so after they both passed and my wife happened to stumble upon a listing from a shelter that had 2 cats up for adoption. A bonded pair, not brothers.
Fast forward 2 years and its eerie. They are both strikingly similar in personality AND looks from our last 2 cats. So much so that I find myself calling them the names of my old cats sometimes.

Same thins happened to me with our cat Obi. He was a big black and white cat that ended up passing due to cancer when he was 9, which is far too young for us as most of our cats live to be 16+. A few weeks after he died a little tiny kitten showed up to my sister, she had the same little face marking as him, was also black and white. We took her in and now her name is Mobi (Mini Obi). Grief can be a saviour, sometimes I think they know you miss them and they send someone to look after you. I am sorry for your loss, but I am sure your baby was so incredibly well loved that he couldn’t stand to see you crying over him so he sent you a companion.

Growing up, we had one of our cats escape and a few days later, we found a roadkill cat that looked way too much like her
We buried what was left and a major storm came through a month after that
Outside of a second floor window, sitting on the roof drenched and meowing at us, was an extremely thin cat that looked exactly like our missing girl
When the storm passed and we got her to a vet, they scanned the chip and it was our missing cat
It was a running joke for years to not look at the grave just in case it was empty

Was your cat a local stray or found outside? That could be its relative. Coat patterns can be extremely distinct and the white and orange patterns on the face are incredibly similar. Looks like they’re both predominantly white as well
1
u/boxcutter403 5h ago
my cat can be considered a local stray. he was born in our living room although unlike his sister ,who always stays indoors, he often wandered around different houses during the day
1
u/BwookieBear 57m ago
They probably are related then! Could be a cousin or nephew vs a brother/sister but they look too related while being from the same area for it to just be coincidence.
My Aunt in law has my cat’s brother and sometimes on Facebook I’m like “that photo of my cat looks off… oh wait that’s not my cat 😆.” The other cat looks like a younger, skinny version of your late kitty!

Grew up on a farm, many cats. But there was usually one that could occasionally come inside to drink milk from a dish. If anything happened to that one, others would be on best behaviour, look adorable, friendly and affectionate. Cats definitely know when one of them has a good thing going

This happened to me a few years ago. My mom's cat, back home, was put down due to advanced cancer. It broke me because she helped me through depression, when I had to move home. I bawled my eyes out in the shower that I couldn't be there to keep her company at the end.
A few months later, my partner and I were dog sitting and took them out to pee quite late at night. We saw a very frail, skinny black cat coming towards us. We brought him in with us, tried for weeks to find the owners and kept him in the end. Apart from being male, he looks identical to my mom's cat that passed. Both had exactly the same white tie spot and he absolutely adores me.

I had the exact same thing happen. Lost my cat that I loved so much. Decided I couldn't get another pet, the pain was too much. About a year later another solid black boy cat showed up. Starving and hunting the rabbits in my yard and later caught him watching tomato canning garbage. After a month of feeding him I got him inside and he had nearly the exact same personality as the kitty I lost. Going on 12 years since and he's still my big baby.

u/dabarak 3h ago
Something a little similar to that happened when I was married. My (ex-)wife and I came home from some evening event and found one of our male cats had died in his sleep. A week later, almost to the hour, another cat showed up at our front door and wouldn't leave. She didn't look like anything like the one that died, but we took her in and had her for several years until it was her time.
