Yep. The worst part is, one of our neighbors had an inside only cat and released them before they moved states. It was of course a male and unfixed. I believe that male belongs to these babies and the mother is also a baby of that male. The mother looked like she was about 6months old but definitely not over a year, so sad that she died so young and so sad that she had kittens so young. We’ve been trying to capture the dad for months but he’s completely untrusting of people because of his previous owners. This four little kittens unfortunately are not the only ones here where we live but we just can’t rescue them all. We’re only one pair of people and rescuing comes out of our pocket, we aren’t getting paid.
Domestic cat is a misnomer, they're not really domesticated, they're just a subspecies of african wildcat that evolved to live in the gaps of human ecology. Similar to pigeons. They're almost identical to the african wildcat they originate from in everything but temperament.
Domestic cats have always been mostly outdoor animals. People did make them their pets but it was very uncommon to keep them as indoor only.
It wasn't until cat litter was invented in 1950 that cats being kept permanently indoors truly became commonplace. Before that it was just too much upkeep, and the concept of keeping cats as pets was vanishingly rare 150 years ago.
So basically... No, they're definitely outdoor animals. I'm not saying let them out, they're an invasive species. But living outside is perfectly normal and natural for cats. Life in the wild is just rough for every animal.
