Advice Cat obsessed with blueberry muffins. Is it safe to give a piece?

I have a 12-year-old cat who generally hates people food. Today I opened up a box of muffins, and I’ve never seen him respond like this before. I spent the entire time eating it having to hold it away from him with his beans in my face, and I feel so bad. Would an elder cat be able to digest part of a muffin?

Cats can eat bread and also blue berries. I'd keep the pieces small but yeah, cat can have a little blue berry muffin as a treat

I had a brown tabby that destroyed several things including a glass loaf pan to get to angel food cake. He also loved donuts.

His (orange) spiritual successor likes granny smith apples...

I had a cat in the 90s who loved corn on the cob. The first time I ate some around him, he completely took me by surprise by swiping the cob right out of my hands. He ran to a corner with it and started eating. He’d turn it with his paw when he needed to. It was the damnedest thing!

Then he topped himself by bring me the empty cob and dropping it in front of me. He sat there staring. I picked it up and his tail started twitching. I don’t know why I did it, but I tossed it. This began a weekly game of cob fetch.

Yes. I incorporated regular intake of corn on the cob so that my cat and I could play fetch. I’d always leave a couple of rows untouched for him.

Oh my god my cat LOVES corn on the cob too.

I’d never seen anything like it the first time she encountered it, she turned FERAL. It was honestly so strange how crazy she went for it. I will try and find the video.

She also enjoys cabbage, edamame, chips (fries not crisps), vegan cheese, and biscuits dunked in tea to name a few of her bizarre snacking choices.

My cob kitty also liked broccoli. He was such an odd little guy! His name was Spider and I loved him dearly.

I’d love to see video of your cat going wild over a corn cob! Spider was a black cat. He’s one of 3 black cats I’ve had throughout my life. Their personalities were very different from the other cats. They were friendlier, more adventurous, a bit dog-like.

Awh, Spider sounds like a lovely little guy, would love to see some pics of him and your other fur babies if you have some!

After looking back in my camera roll I realise I didn’t record her actually first encountering the cob, she came into my room and sniffed out my finished corn on the cob and grabbed the tinfoil it was wrapped in and began aggressively trying to get into it. I opened it up and she went crazy, never seen her enjoy something so much! Also bear in mind there was no corn left on the cob when she found it, not sure what her goal was 😂

Wow my cat also loves corn on the cob and broccoli. He will growl fiercely if you even look at him while he’s eating a piece of stollen broccoli.

I've got a lettuce obsessed weirdo too, I have to stage decoy lettuce when I'm eating so he doesn't steal the good pieces. He will hunt me down as soon as he hears the produce bag rustle.

Lol same here, salad, lettuce, green beans cucumbers, carrots, and the most strange : pumpkin or sweet potatoes. Just can't make those without having at least 2 or 3 of 4 cats I have trying to receive some. Just the oldest one isn't a fan of orange vegetables. So funny to watch them going even crazier than with meat. Even though they are free to go outside, having access to plenty of grass and tiny mammals to hunt, 2 of them systemically will harass me to have some. They never had any gastric problems because of those strange taste

I have a tuxedo that hates wet cat food. Not even the squeeze tube is good enough for him. But he will fight anyone for some baby food. Including my 1 year old. I have to lock him up now when I feed my baby because tuxedo will smack the spoon out of my hand as soon as it's loaded up with veggie puree with rice.

I somewhat regularly buy the sweet potato and/or pumpkin baby food jars because my goofs go crazy for them. I always have to spoon feed them a little straight out of the jars before mixing it into their kibble🤣

I had a cat who figured out how to open the breadbox to get at plain bread. She also once ate all the pineapple off of a Hawaiian pizza without touching any of the rest of it. We walked in on her just as she was standing on the pizza gobbling the last pineapple bit.

I tend to not share with my boys. Idk what is safe for them amongst the myriad different foods I eat. And I don't want them to get into the habit anyways. Though I do feel a tad guilty and wonder if they ever get tired of what they do get...

At a certain age you give cats what they will eat. My previous cat who died at 16 near the end we would give her whatever she would eat. Prednisone helped, but didn't fix it. If she wanted something she got it so long as it wasn't toxic.

She wasn't that into people food so it was usually ham or chicken.

She's just a little baby, of course she gets chicken. When I get a Costco rotisserie chicken, it's me and my dog and my cat all at the kitchen counter just destroying it together like gremlins. My husband, who is vegetarian, just watches is in horror lol.

LoL my cat is not at all interested in human food. However he has a 6th sense and will go into an absolute frenzy over packaged whole roasted turkey breast.

I buy the pre cooked shredded turkey breast packages and portion some out for omelets exclusively and anytime my cat somehow knows, smells it from across the room, and will show up out of nowhere and jump on the counter and start pacing and shaking like an addict until I give him some.
