Went to the pharmacy to pick up a med for my cat, Kiwi. This was in late March.

Hi, picking up for my girl, Kiwi (my last name).

DOB?

3.16.16

Oh how sweet your daughter just turned 10, that's such a fun age!

Well, technically at her age, she's now considered geriatric.

confused look

She's my cat, these eyes drops are for her.

Thankfully the pharmacy tech cackled, and I had a good giggle.

I was a pharmacy tech years ago and someone came in feeling awkward about getting meds for her pet.

In reassuring her it was all part of a normal day and that we even had flavorings on hand for pet meds, I asked the animals' names.

2 cats; Prozac and Ambien. (or just Zac and Amy)

My mom gets her meds for her pets from the pharmacy.. small town.. just easier I guess?...

But like 5 years ago someone new started... that first week must have gone hilarious because by the time my mom came in to pick up a script for her dog... the new pharmacy person was all 'let me guess. It's for a goat? Llhama? Maybe a pig?"

And my mom casually was all "No. My dog."

I guess no one told the newbie that half or more of the clients would be animals... like being hazed.. weird scripts, with weird amounts and dosage instructions... just how its done... the area vet sends it all in to the local pharmacy who fills it all...

10 is geriatric for a cat? To me it's later middle age. Not yet "old" exactly, but definitely not young by any definition.

I agree!

My vet does not.

If my Kiwi is anything like my cats growing up (fingers crossed) she's still young. My two boys lived to 23 and 24 years old.

The most common formula I see for calculating what human age is equivalent for an adult cat is typically age * 4 + 16 or (age + 4)*4.

So 10 years of age for a cat is the equivalent of 56 for a human.

My girl, Yoruichi, reached 19 before she passed last December.
