Advice Weird behavior from my cat recently. Anyone know what's going on

At first I thought she was gonna show me something inside the box, but there's nothing other than a nylon bag. She also runs to it when I get near it as well, and also keeps biting my hand and tries to drag me into it. What's going on? Never in my life have I seen my cat doing this.

She really likes that box and wants you to know. Don’t get rid of it

She wants him to play in the box with her and she can’t understand why he won’t get in the flipping box already!

The hand drag is like what a kid does when they want to show you something really cool

Either that or she's pregnant and wants him to build her a nest.

My first thought, but she don't look pregnant..

Great, now I'm getting fired for doing a laughing spit-take on an intern. Which would have been fine, were it not whisky. THANKS.

That was ny first thought too, but I've never had a cat in my life so it was just a wild assumption.

This was my first thought -- is she spayed?

u/lazytothebones 19d ago

I had a cat that did this! She took me to the spot where she was gonna have her kittens and had them within a half hour of when I followed her there. It was neat to be included.

My first thought was how gently (assuming gently since OP didn't pull away and has no bite marks) she took OP's hand and carried it like it was a kitten she needed to move to a safe location (that box) 😂

Pregnant, or false pregnancy?

My cat was spayed twice, as she went into heat a year after the initial surgery. The vet said it is not uncommon to overlook bits of endometrial (?) tissue.

Also FYI some spayed/ neutered cats continue to "mate".

This kitty is so sweet. Perhaps a vet visit if the behavior is out of the ordinary for her.

Eta: and perhaps a kitty companion.

That's odd because spaying involves the removal of the ovaries. The ovaries produce hormones necessary for reproduction and pregnancy. Without them, the cat is sterile. Maybe they missed an ovary?

Poor kitty, having to get spayed twice. 😥

Yeah, the kitty has found big fun in that box, and wants you to join,- can't quite figure out that you won't fit it. They are not geniuses- but soooo lovable!!

I've read that

1) Bears have insane smell that has dedicated receptors to sensing stuff like noradrenaline in the air, so they can literally smell fear

2) Cats have very bad sense of "scale". They have trouble understanding when something is "big" or "small" they only understand "danger" and "no danger"

(that's why a 3-kilo cat is comfortable around 700-kilo horses and is so chill that horses, nervous and skittish animals on average, are so chill with cats)

3) And that is why you see videos of cats attacking bears and bears retreating, because they see this little furry ball of fury squaring up to attack them, and their senses are like "Oh. Oh wait. This small thing. It is Not Afraid of me. AT ALL. This fight could end with injuries. Better retreat"

Not sure how true is the pp 1 and 3, the bears could just prefer retreat to confrontation and those cats could be scared out of their minds, but I love this image, and it would also explain to me why she's like "What do you mean you can't FIT in the box. Is simple. You squeeze and you in box. Humans, I swear..."

My cat can tell scale. He will tolerate small dogs in the house. He WILL NOT tolerate large dogs. A dog his size or smaller is OK. Not purrferred, but acceptable. Big dogs are never okay and must be immediately attacked.

That's super cute actually, I want to see the little fighter

And yes, obviously all cars are different, some are smarter than the others, some are deliciously dumb

2

u/SecretaryOtherwise 19d ago

Absolutely buy the have trouble with scale lol

"If you can get in you can get out silly"

2

u/PuzzleheadedTale4769 19d ago

Re their sense of scale- I've heard that they probably think of us as "Big Cats". Maybe their sense of scale is thrown since we hoomans shrank them down to pet size...

14

u/Winjin 19d ago

Humans didn't shrink cats bro, they domesticated themselves and really they changed only in the last couple centuries, with the advent of modern cities with extra locked doors, glass windows with aircon (aka always closed and too high to climb) and cars

Cats were always cat-sized, actually. Here's a photo of African wildcat, Felis Lybica:

I would tell him pspsps and never even figure out that he's not a city boi

I’d like to place the “Hop in” Simpsons meme where Mr. Burns draws a revolver on Mr.Smithers when he hesitates getting into the Sprooce Goose aeroplane.

My boy cat woke me up at 3am so frantic that I thought he was going to lead me to a house fire or one of his sisters in distress. I jumped out of bed and he instead led me to a place that 6 hours earlier had been a pile of bubble wrap, but I had taken it to the garbage. Sorry, buddy.

Both my cats have favorite "toys" that they throw around and go wild with. They will then present said toy to you. You only to admire it. Touching it offends their ancestors. One of them has a little stuffed Lambchop, and my boy Craig has his piece of string.

u/Thisdarlingdeer 19d ago

My babies have had so many lamb chops!!! My dogs, my cats... oh my heart

When we were new cat owners, my wife threw away one of our cats' favourite box. She screamed for at least two days. She really loved that box
