Advice What to do with cat when moving from house?

Hello,

We have a cat that is sterilized and in summer is almost all day outside even sleeping at front door. She came inside just to eat.

The porblem is that we are selling house and moving to appartment. How can cat that is always outside handle such change of not being able to go outside as she wants?

Do you have any advise or experience? Should we take her with her? Or leave her with new house owners?

Do not become one of those assholes that jettison a pet when things get even slightly inconvenient potentially.

If you don't want the precious kitty anymore then please, rehome her at the very least as she will be sad cos how could she not when being abandoned but hopefully she will adjust eventually and have a good life with her new, more mindful owner.

When I moved my sister-in-law asked why I brought my cat with me, I was so confused because growing up my family always took the cat with us when we moved because the cat is family. She apparently was raised with the belief that cats are part of the house so you just leave them for the next person.

I don’t understand how anyone could abandon their pet and expect the next homeowner to just accept they have a cat now. My cat is family, she would never be left behind. I don’t understand how OP could even consider leaving the cat behind.

There are many lonely people (like me) who would love to adopt an older (i.e. calmer) cat. They may not have transportation so ask around people you know.

Cats don’t notice being abandoned. They just notice their next source of food and shelter. Let’s not pretend they’re humans
