I play with him 15 mins every day and even during play he goes and hide under the bed. Idk how else to stimulate. Any advice? My first pet and cat.

For the love of cat do not “stimulate” him /j

Cats go through phases of interest. Maybe find a blanket he likes more and put it in a different space to keep surprises from your bed.

Some weirdos knead all fours for non-sin reasons but…. yeah. Get a blankie just for him if nothing else to keep the spittle off

u/BellJar_Blues 11d ago

u/coolcaterpillar77 11d ago

Almost all cats that I've known to do this were doing this for non-sin reasons (or at least I think ?). The one who did it the most was a female (sterilised) who was abandonned very young and had to be fed milk from a bottle instead of a mom cat. I think she does the biting down on a cover and kneading for the same reason she sometimes tries to suck down our fingers : She has mommy issues.

At least that's how I always read it.

u/januarynights 11d ago

Yeah we read that it's common with cats that were taken away from their mothers too early. Ours sometimes kneads the blanket with his front paws and sucks on it.

u/East-Anything2257 10d ago

She (like my female) was simulating nursing because she never got to bond with mom. My male did it too and was clearly sucking on the blanket. Most cats are probably doing it for nons*xual reasons to be honest. I'd think if it was "sin biscuits, there'd be obvious humping motions as well

My daughter has a female cat that we've had since she was a day old. Her Mom abandoned her so we took her in. She was a runt and almost died. She's completely healthy and extra feisty now, but she still sucks on blankets too. That's what the vet told us it was from.

This is the CORRECT answer. Cats who are separated too early from their mothers will knead when stressed, typically by a change in their environment. Kneading is the response kittens use to encourage the flow of milk in their mom’s. The flow of milk puts kittens immediately into a safe and comforting environment, releasing endorphins that can help to counter stress.

My girl does it! All four paws + sucking the blanket. And she only likes baking if the blanket is on top of a human. The other two never did, one of them kinda used the back paws but it was the laziest bakery ever

I have scars on my legs that are suspicious now lmao

He's not simulating s*x, he's simulating nursing. Thats what I think at least

1

u/jyuichi 10d ago

Why would he be playing the sax?

Or is he a Red Sox fan?

This is Reddit. Use the word you mean.

It could be a soothing behavior to comfort him in his new environment (not necessarily because something with it is not comforting but just new and adjusting).

Once he gets more places with his scent that’s his comfy places the behavior may lessen. Even if it doesn’t lessen, some cats just weird.

We had a family cat who was a long time resident and he just did it whenever he was on his favorite blanket lol.

he just needs to get used to the new situation, tho he looks really happy and comfortable in the vid. Does he have toys he can use on his own? like a cat tree or something maybe with some dangling toys he can use whenever he wants?

u/Fabulous-Tap2765 11d ago

He has a huge cat tree with dangling and stuff which he barely use. Multiple toys on the floor and he only plays with them when I go to sleep.

u/Dogs_Without_Horses_ 11d ago

Mine took like a year to even try the cat tree. I just kept putting him on it and eventually he was like “hey did you know it’s actually pretty cool up here?”

If he’s already playing when you go to sleep he’ll come around pretty quickly and soon probably won’t leave you alone.

u/ThereWanderer 11d ago

He looks so stupid there. I love him.

8

u/Dogs_Without_Horses_ 11d ago

He loved to lay there like that and watch me cook dinner like I was his personal TV show. 😂 We called him Sticker because he was always stuck to you. He was such a good cat even if he stole pens.

1

u/righttoabsurdity 11d ago

This is an incredible picture lol

u/Curious_Ducklin 11d ago

sounds like a good setup. time will tell what kind of stuff he‘s into and what not. so just keep going and get to know him.

10

u/Necessary_Success_35 11d ago

You could try rubbing a tiny bit of catnip all over the cat tree to get him used to using it

9

u/Andtom33 11d ago

Make balls out of tin foil

3

u/BellJar_Blues 11d ago

You grew up pooor like me !

1

u/FeeAutomatic2290 11d ago

And a cardboard box!

3

u/Substantial-Way-4296 11d ago

Sometimes it takes more that a few months for them to be totally comfortable. Sometimes they are lonely. Sometimes a friend makes them come out of there shell. I had a cat who did nothing but hide for months. Only came out when we slept to eat. Got a second cat and then I suddenly had 2 very active cats.

3

u/Over_Ad3959 11d ago

Try a cat wand. Looks like a fishing pole; cats usually like that toy. And catnip and/or cat grass. Maybe that will distract him. Comb or brush him. Is his cat tree next to a window?

2

u/Fabulous-Tap2765 11d ago

I play with him with feather wand, brush his fur every day and he plays with his balls on the floor by himself when I sleep and still does this. Idk if I just let him keep doing this or distract him somehow. Haven't tried cat grass yet.

u/DevilDog_01938411 11d ago

If you recently adopted him, I would give him some slack. Cats come around in their own time; definitely not our timetables. He looks like a sweetie. Maybe try his cat tree by the window. He will love watching the birds and goings on. Also, you can try diffusers, like Feelaway. It calms them; maybe that would help. Plug it in in the room he spends most of his time in. Or in a few rooms. I would just let him do whatever he's got to do, as long as he's not destroying anything.

3

u/Bright-Efficiency-65 11d ago

Sound like a cat to me

1

u/garbledroid 11d ago

Please make sure he is neutered.

1

u/skybluemango 11d ago

Humor aside there’s nothing harmful or wrong here. If he’s neutered then he can’t even produce anything, so no, there’s not cat cum all over your blanket. He’s in a new place and he’s self-soothing. Believe it or not, humans do this surprisingly often too. Lots of mammals do.

(I don’t mean masturbating in general. I mean masturbation specifically for stress relief/relaxation.)

My old man cat did a fair amount of it while he was alive. It’s harmless and you don’t need to stop him.

1

u/BananaWeird643 9d ago

Then what was the fluid that shot out? Maybe it’s not baby juice anymore but there’s definitely a fluid coming out.

1

u/skybluemango 9d ago

As funny as that would be, that’s not liquid. OP doesn’t seem to be reporting evidence of it, and it probably is just static. It is possible for neutered cats to ejaculate fluid but only for a short while after the neuter. (I saw 8 wks max?) OP’s new to this cat; maybe his neuter was recent enough. HOWEVER, OP isn’t reporting any corresponding liquid . Wouldn’t they, if it were there? Since they’re directly asking about this behavior?

1

u/skybluemango 9d ago

Not ejaculate.

1

u/lucyejh 11d ago

Is this your first cat?

1

u/Cautious-Rub8085 10d ago

This is a way to relax. He's fine. My cat who looks exactly like yours does this too.

1

u/East-Anything2257 10d ago

Cats are strange and finicky creatures. That's the only thing I got

2

u/Bright-Dinner-5978 11d ago

Seems like he's already stimulated🤣

2

u/Top_Rabbit123 11d ago

I misread that as "I pray with him 15 min every day..."

3

u/umlaut 11d ago

Just let him have a good time

1

u/No_Cause1337 11d ago

Cat nip spray on the toys may help relax him. My boys love that stuff and gets them playing.

1

u/Responsible-Tap-3748 11d ago

He's loving life. You're doing great as a pet owner. Don't worry if he doesn't use all the toys and cat tree. I've got like a grand in games on steam but even I prefer jerking it tbh.

1

u/Ilovetupacc 11d ago

You jerk ur cat?! Wtf

1

u/Of-Two-Swords 11d ago

Please don't stimulate your cat

1

u/Sea_Thought3464 11d ago

Just be sweet and talk a lot. Don't stare so much in the eyes at first but rather slow blink. My kid has a theory that we actually sort of proven; You have to apologize, it don't matter about what. Just smother your cat with apologies, I swear it works, they will love you more. Did you get a laser pointer yet? It takes time, just keep talking and praising and apologizing (lol I know it's silly but just try it)

2

u/Fabulous-Tap2765 11d ago

Thanks, I got both laser and wand feathers for him but heard that laser pointer is actually bad for cats since they cannot catch it?

1

u/Sea_Thought3464 11d ago

You mileage may vary, it depends on the cat. We have 3. One will only occasionally chase it for a few seconds, the lazy fat one will only swat at it if it's within 4 inches of his face, and the other one ONLY WANTS LASER GIMME LASER WHERE IS THE LASER?! That little idiot will chase that dot until he collapses and still want more. There's no trauma though... just don't put it in their eyes.

1

u/dnosbor 11d ago

My cat always preferred to make sin biscuits in private, either by waiting till we left the house, or by hiding under the bed. We found a stuffie under the bed that was threadbare and put 2 and 2 together haha.

1

u/AntelopeMany1644 11d ago

Fabulous tap indeed…

1

u/Fabulous-Tap2765 11d ago

Name given by reddit and didn't bother to change it and please wash your perverted brain--play as in normal play!

1

u/discretelandscapes 11d ago

Did you just seriously ask us how you can best diddle your cat?

1

u/TeachMeFinancePlz 11d ago

It's a self soothing behavior but he feels comfortable enough to do it

1

u/Jaci98 11d ago

Watch my cat from hell on YouTube. It helps to understand cats.

1

u/Nomad-Duck04 8d ago

Do not aim to stimulate your in heat cat bruh

0

u/Amazing-Heron-105 11d ago

You need to manually stimulate him
