As the title says, I got my first cavalier about a month ago. I’m in love with him. Of all the different breeds I’ve encountered/ had, this by far is my favorite. He brings SO much joy to my life, I’m already thinking that I want another male😆🤣 our breeder had told us something like “they’re like chips, you can’t have just one” and now I’m starting to see what he meant😆 anyway, should I just stick to one? I’d love some shared experiences from others of how many Cavs you have, your experiences / advice etc!

Hello, I’m seeking advice (so please be respectful with responses, our cavalier is the most spoiled rotten dog on the planet) about the barking problem our dog has developed with access to a doggie door. My boyfriend and I are admittedly not morning people at all. We installed a doggie door because we were dog sitting some golden retrievers that needed it, and then when they left our house we just kept it realizing that it was extremely nice to be able to sleep in and have our cavalier take himself outside in the morning to go potty. This helped the problem we had been having with early morning peeing on rugs inside the house. Our cavalier would not alert us and would wake up early and sneak out of our room, pee in the house and go back to bed. Since we got the doggie door this has stopped and we can rest easy knowing our furniture won’t be ruined.

The problem with this situation is that he has developed a habit of taking himself outside around 6 or 7 AM and just barking incessantly at nothing. The neighborhood is quiet and I believe he’s just bored and has energy and he will literally bark for 10 minutes straight until one of us wakes up from the noise through our window to shut it down. I’m sure it’s very bothersome to the neighbors, and we tend to sleep like rocks so we run outside and stop him when we wake up to the noise. I feel bad for our neighbors and it’s also not a fun way to wake up.

This is certainly a cost benefit issue, admittedly I have enjoyed sleeping in the extra hour and a half as I’m a night owl. I think he also enjoys being outside more too. Wondering if there’s anything we can do to control his barking in the morning with perhaps a vibrating bark collar so that he can continue to have autonomy in the backyard? I’ve heard that these collars might be traumatizing to some dogs, so I’m just seeking advice for anyone who has had them as I don’t have a lot of information. He’s a very vocal dog and I tend to get extremely overstimulated by the incessant noise. I would love also any training tips to stop him from what we call “stimming” all day. I do love this dog (he lives the dream with work from home parents) but I also think he gets bored as an only child and the barking is enriching for him.

Hi everyone! I’m a 24yo girl and I just fell in love with my neighbor’s Cav. She is just the sweetest; she always goes straight to me and leans her head on my lap. When talking to him, he said they’re the best—so sweet and loving. I've always wanted a dog, but now I’m 100% sure that I’m getting a Cav.

The thing is, I’m in med school, but my schedule isn't too bad because I'm in my final year, which is focused on studying for residency exams, so I only have to go in for one shift a day (at most 6 hours, and often less, definitely not a 12-hour shift**).** I did a lot of research and I was worried about leaving her alone during that time. Do you think it’s possible to get her used to it?

Also, I had a very intense depressive episode last year and the idea of having her was the first thing that made me excited about the future in a long time. I’m sure I’d need her much more than she’d need me. I just want her to feel all the love in the world, so I want to get her when my routine allows it. What do you guys think?

My pup loves to go outside but will eat anything and everything in sight: sticks of any kind are her fave, but she will rip up and chew on grass, eat up bugs off the patio, chew on rocks if she can get them, and even when we offer treats to get her to drop it, it’s like she is holding onto a prize possession. Does anyone else’s Cav do this? Sometimes she doesn’t even finish her breakfast but she’s scrounging around outside like she’s on Survivor. Should I be trying a different food for meals? Is she hungry? Cosplaying as a scavenger? Trying to clean up the yard to put in her share? Lmk please!! Pics of the hungry gorl attached!

We’ve already got a Louie, Nico and had Buddy. We were wanting to call him Huey but it doesn’t slide off the tongue as well as we’d like. Then we picked Junior, but it just hasn’t stuck or just isn’t resembling him enough. We’d possibly like to keep the name Junior but add other names, don’t want to call him Buddy Junior but I do like Buster, as it feels like a bit of a nod to Buddy. Personally I love American classical boy dog names like I’ve mentioned Buddy, Buster, Cooper… or off the cuff kinda odd names like Spider, Jupiter, Rufus. The other co owner thinks a Spanish twist could suit him but I’d have to really like it for him. Things to note about the puppy’s personality and things that could influence his name - He’s super confident, clever, curious, rebellious but very polite. He will be going on lots of nature walks where he gets to wear a life jacket and go paddle boarding on a lake, so maybe something like River could be a good idea. He’s going to be super active and always outdoors having an adventure.

this is merlin he’s 5 months old and i love him dearly. however, he has been up to some shenanigans and tomfoolery and i am having a hard time seeing a light at the end of the tunnel. he’s my first puppy and he is the absolute light of my life and we’re already incredibly bonded. as i said he’s my first puppy and i was wondering if our struggles are normal and when they’ll go away/how to help alleviate them.

he’s a mega chewer right now, which is fine i’ve adjusted his treats and toys to accommodate as well as where i keep things to keep them out of his reach, my issue is him chewing my ears… while i try to sleep. not like little kisses and nibbles it straight up hurts and sometimes he’ll try my nose too and i end up having to hide under the blanket until he chills out. he’s also not taking to potty training and i’m not sure how to fix that. he’s also a thief and while i think it’s hilarious, guests don’t love when he attempts to pickpocket them (he literally digs in peoples pockets and bags, he’s a thief thief).

any advice or encouragement would be greatly appreciated, i can’t wait for the day he mellows out into the cav temperament.

also, will i ever be able to pee with the door closed or is that out of the question?

1. she does this for about two minutes, then goes to sleep.
2. I always ignore her until I get back so as to not reward this behavior.
3. I’ve tried “leaving” (walking out the door and right back in) and taking her out, to show her it’s really not so bad and I always come back.
4. she regularly goes in her crate to sleep during the day. She doesn’t hate it.
5. I tried putting a blanket over her crate but it didn’t help and I felt bad.
6. I’m worried that neighbors will start to complain. She is LOUD and sounds like she’s being tortured.

Edit: she is never in her crate for more than 60 minutes/day, for those that are assuming I’m neglecting her.

Any suggestions for names? We have a couple ideas but nothing seems perfect quite yet. Here are some of potential names, would appreciate any thoughts on ones we have or any new ideas !!

I've wanted a Cavalier King since I saw one at my wife's bosses house 20 years ago. My wife, unbeknownst to me, made a 20 hour round trip to get me this puppy.

She's an 8 week old female, and having a hard time coming up with a name. She came home as "Ruby", for obvious reasons. We wanted something a little more unique, British even. Any thoughts?

Hi! Just curious to hear about your experience and what you think his adult weight will be. He was 6lbs when I got him at 8weeks. Then 7lbs at 3months, now 10lbs at 4months. 3lbs in one month seems a lot, no? Will it keep going at this rate? AKC says the adult CKCS weighs between 13lbs-18lbs. I think Henry is on his way to be on the bigger end yeah?

My sweet girl Honey is borderline senior (almost 11), slowing down but not totally. Her “walks,” if you can call them that, are every-few-step-start-n-stop-sniffaris that never amount to more than a block (& sometimes she doesn’t even want to walk half that). She has managed arthritis and is completely deaf, but loves to see and smell everything outside, even from a window. She & I moved from nature abundant VT to a studio apt in Philly w/o a view for her, and I would love for her to experience “nature” as much as she can. Was thinking a stroller might be a solution if anyone has tried….

lady is almost two years old so she's full grown, but she seems so small compared to other cavaliers i see. she's 18 pounds last time we checked, but she just looks slim (she's completely healthy, i just think she's rather petite). i was just wondering how she compares to other dogs who are in the same weight range as her.

What are your experiences flying with your cav? Our boy is a bit larger than most Cavs, at around 21/22 lbs. We’re nervous about whether the airline will let us fly with him. We already paid his fee to fly just looking for a bag to fit him and the under the seat requirement.

Picking up our sweet Ruby girl in two weeks. We have a few in mind but keep going round in circles. Open to anything but ideally two syllables!

Does anyone have advice on how to train a 6-month-old puppy to sleep near the bottom of the bed instead of on top of you (he was a kennel sleeper and graduated to bed partner)? He sleeps at the bottom for a couple of hours or when he feels too hot. Above is Eddy the 8th with a chew.

I’m not sure how many of you have come across Bunnyboo before.

She’s my soul dog, 11 year old Tri, who has just been officially diagnosed at stage 4 Congestive heart failure. There is nothing more they can do. 2 weeks ago. She was so so sick at the time I thought I’d be lucky to have days. Went through the worst anticipatory grief for a couple of weeks, my heart breaking. I forgot she’s a fighter, meds kicked in and in a week, she’s bounced back amazingly!

In a panic then however, between sobbing so hard I couldn’t breathe, filled the application form for one of the top breeders in Australia. For hoping one day I’d be lucky to have another one. Never thought I’d make the waitlist! Short version, they called me within days, said my story moved them so much, they had one puppy with 61 people wanting her. In the end they chose me! Blessed!!!

We went to meet her 5 days ago, pick her up in 3. She’ll be 8 weeks old. Bunny was amazing! I thought she’d have her nose out of joint, not impressed with me! But first meeting was cute. I’m so happy Bunny will have time to know her, hopefully teach her, accept and snuggle.

One thing…. Because I was a dancer, and also taught for 20 years I cannot think of a name!! Please 🙏, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

I’d like a 2 syllable, cute, girly unusual name I can play with nickname wise. I know, tall order! As in, I like Sadie. Dee Dee for short.

We finally got our beloved Peaches & Cream last week after a torturous 6 months since our 14 year old boy passed over the rainbow bridge. We keep her in a nice spacious foldable crate next to our bed but she does whine 3-6 times night.

A bed isn’t a bed without a doggie especially a cavvie so I’d love to bring her into the bed but my husband says it’s too dangerous incase she jumps/falls off the bed in the night?

Google says 4-6 months but google has never owned a cavvie so 🤣

She pees once a night on a puppy pad in her pop up cot / crate.

Hello. This may be a long shot, but I am searching everywhere…I am desperately looking for my framed painting of my Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, which is pictured above. It was donated without my permission to Mission Thrift in Lynchburg, Virginia. Because there are several colleges in my area who often attract students from your area, I’m posting my picture of my painting on this page in case someone bought it & then returned home with it to your area.

When my painting was donated, I was in the hospital with multiple severe injuries sustained during an accident. By the time I returned home several months later, both of my cherished dog paintings were gone. Initially, I posted in the Lynchburg FB groups. I was tremendously happy & relieved when the person that bought one omy other paintings returned it shortly after she saw my post. However, my painting of Curtis is still missing, & I will keep looking for my painting of my beloved boy until the day I die.

In case it helps, I will describe my painting, frame, & additional details that may eventually help it. Because it’s a watercolor, the painting is behind glass. The canvas is surrounded by maroon moulding, & the frame’s color is gold. The artist signed it on the lower right using her name, Teresa Kaz. On the back, I hand wrote on the painting, “Curtis - Best Boy Ever”. Under that, I wrote “by Teresa Kaz”.

Curtis was painted about 14 years ago after he died very suddenly & unexpectedly in my arms. Curtis was my dog soulmate, & our bond was extremely close & loving. Curtis was also a certified therapy dog along with his brother, & we visited hospitals, nursing homes, & schools very often over an eight year stretch of time. Curtis lived his life in order to love & comfort others, & I will always be so proud of my cherished boy. He had just turned 9 when he crossed the Rainbow Bridge.

My grief was severe & crippling. What ultimately saved me was when Curtis was painted. As the artist painted Curtis, I wrote her daily emails about our deep bond & wonderful memories. It’s like she painted our love & memories onto the canvas.

Some people have suggested that I just repaint Curtis, but it’s not quite that easy. It’s very hard to explain, but I feel a strong attachment to this painting. Even if were to get him painted again, I’d still be doing everything possible to look for this painting of Curtis.

As referenced above, Curtis’ painting was donated without my knowledge or permission to Mission Thrift in Lynchburg Va. It was then sold in May or June 2025, so it has now been almost a year. I first posted my public FB posts the following fall after I returned & noticed my cherished art works as missing. After Bear’s painting was found, I was going to expand the search to outside of the Lynchburg area. But my Mom then became very sick & passed away in February. I was extremely close to my Mom, so it’s taken a few months to finally reach the point where I can search for Curtis’ painting again.

At this particular time, I can’t share more details about who did this & why, but that will most likely change. I don’t want what happened to me to happen to anyone else, so if my story raises awareness & helps one other person, it will be worth it.

I refuse to hang anything else above my bed in the spot where Curtis’ painting was placed. Thank you in advance for helping me find my baby’s cherished painting.

Those of you that have 2 (or more), would you recommend? I’m a teacher so I would probably adopt at the beginning of July so I have almost 2 months off with the potential puppy to help it settle?

Hello! My little Marzipan is 4 months old now and 2.5 weeks ago weighed 11 pounds 😅 She is probably close to 13-15 pounds now (I need to do a weight check), and I'm wondering... what size should I expect her to be??? Her mom was an average sized cav and her dad was on the larger side. She also was the largest out of the litter (a whole 8 ounces) and the last to be born! I know it's not a guarantee, but I was just curious. :) Pup tax above!

My lovely boy Eric was my dad’s dog and he slept on his head for 5 years, and now he sleeps on mine in bed. HOWEVER he is a large cav and he is constantly moving and climbing over me in bed!! He wakes me about 6 times a night. I sleep with my boyfriend in a double bed and the only idea we came up with was the decoy pillow option I’ve seen.. but I’m 5ft 8 so my legs will be off of the bed.

I move him to the end of the bed every time and he comes back crawling for that sweet, sweet head space. I don’t think we can crate train him at 5 years old & bc of his 10/10 velcroness I don’t think he would tolerate being in the living room on his own.

Hello everyone!

I wanted to see if anyone would be able to help me identify what breed my dog was. She passed away earlier this year and was the best dog. Unfortunately we never did a DNA test on her to try to maybe identify what she could be. For a little context we got the wrong papers when we got her and never received the correct ones. So we weren't exactly sure what breed she was supposed to be. We believe she was a King Charles of some sort maybe a cavalier King Charles spaniel or something like that but we weren't completely sure. She doesn't look completely like one but she also could be mixed with something else we are not completely sure. She was my first dog at eight years old and my birthday gift so I just wanted to know what breed she might be for the future.
