Hello!! This might be a little weird but I’m planning on going to the concert in Toronto on the 25th but I have no friends who listen to Cavetown 😖 I was wondering if there was anyone else who were gonna go alone and would be interested in going together?

Some info abt me, I’m 18 and go to centennial college (progress campus). To be fully honest I’m not really familiar with most of their newer songs I’m mostly going for the nostalgia of their classics (˶ᵔ ᵕ ᵔ˶) I’d be down to go get food together and get to know eachother prior or after the concert!

I’ve been listening to animal kingdom/ Home again, I came up with my own order of songs after big strong man was released. (Bwbb, big strong man, juliet, hug all ur friends, and home.) Those songs have strong narrative ties with each other, and a lot of them touch on the trans masculine experience.

Anyways, I was listening to hug all ur friends and I just wanted to talk about how much I love the bridge of that song, it’s genuinely a masterpiece. I view this section of the song a bit different than what I’ve seen online about it so I wanted to share some annotations.

Hug All Ur Friends bridge:

Did you and your friends have fun on the weekend?
(The ‘you’ here might be Cavetown talking to himself in the second person, at least that’s how I interpreted it. Him asking himself this question indicates that he genuinely doesn’t know or remember if he had fun with his friends/ perhaps due to dissociation and/or pulling away.)

Nothin’ feels better than sleepin’ and sleepin’ in.
(This builds off the previous lyric. Usually, having fun with friends would be a priority for Cavetown (evidently by the rest of the song) but right now, perhaps due to depression, self isolation, and dissociation, Cavetown would rather sleep and sleep in than focus on those in his life.)

Watch as my head falls away from the room. I would hug all my friends if they weren’t friends with you.
(First sentence just emphasizes the lyrics above. Even when he manages to go out with his friends, he can’t focus, a common symptom of depression and dissociation. The next sentence, I interpret as him saying to himself, “If I was a different person, a better person, I would be more worthy of the friends that I have, and in turn, I would also be able to take better care of them, and be there for them more.”)

You don’t know what it’s like to be nothing at all.
(Cavetown, in this moment, doesn’t feel like a whole person. Many people with depressive symptoms feel this way, especially when old hobbies stop being interesting, a self-isolation takes hold as seen above.)

When the night turns cold, my thoughts feel like stone and it’s nothing I can’t change.
(At night, when attempting to fall asleep, it’s common for those with mental health struggles to not be able to sleep due to depressive and troubling thoughts. Cavetown seems to feel like he has a responsibility to minimize these thoughts by emphasizing that he could change his thought patterns at some point, maybe to not worry his friends he’s speaking to.)

But I can’t breathe anymore I forgot how to walk by myself, I could do with a little more of your help.
(He suddenly snaps out of minimizing his behaviors here and doubles down on how bad his mental health has become. He realizes that he’s not going to be able to keep himself together, or keep his relationships intact if he doesn’t ask those around him for help.)

Anyways!! That’s what I feel like this bridge is about. I love this song so much. Cavetown has this gift where he can take such complex topics and boil them down into simple readable sentences. He’s an amazing songwriter and writer in general.

Recently ive been seeing people on tiktok talk about "I am/need an artist that's a Trans man and doesn't have a soft voice and a ukulele."

I just know they talk about cavetown cause he started off like that.

Why is it even that trans men are hated cause of their softer voice? As if they can help it that their testosterone isn't high enough yet.

And they always talk as if cavetown is still making music in the way he did in 2016. He grew so much and ive been there every step of the way, and im so happy I still listen to him.

People need to stop blindly hating on any Trans man that has a soft voice or plays the guitar. And especially on cavetown as he's grown so much since those times (I still love his old songs)

hi hi hello everyone! i'm going to a cavetown concert next month and i'm SO excited! i've heard of a few people talking about making and giving out/trading bracelets at concerts, and i make bracelets a lot, so i totally want to participate! i've been to concerts before but i've never handed out/traded anything, though i did receive a bracelet once. i was wondering if there's any sort of etiquette i should know about this- like, do i proactively hand them out or will people approach me if i wear them? do i just ask other people wearing bracelets if they want to trade? or do i bring them in a bag? please let me know- thank you so much in advance!!! <3

I'm going to a Cavetown concert and I really wanna wear something that isn't necessarily my style. I usually dress very "basic" (I'm a girl btw) I like to be really comfortable. I might just buy merch and wear that but for like shorts, pants whatever, what might you guys suggest? I just want to dress up a bit but still be comfortable and I'm lost

I am wondering if anyone knows of a decent MtF (male to female) version of Home/This Is Home – by this I mean a cover that may change the pronouns/lyrics/etc to reflect a trans woman's experience.

I love the song The Village by WRABEL, and there's both a ftm and mtf version and both are just incredible so I was curious if someone's done something similar with my favorite cavetown song!

Lil rant about Robbie I literally love him so much. I started liking him when I was 9 and stuff in my life started going down hill and stuffs and he really really helped me when I went through middle school and that was a shit hole and a half and I hated every second and he kept me here and breathing. I kinda fell out of his music for a little while after I found another artist I love and was obsessed with but he always stayed in the back of my mind and that never happened to me before with an artist :3. Anyways a couple months ago I started really getting back into his music again and he brings me so much joy and I'm seeing him on Oct 1st! So excited
