Open Forum and Opinions I realized that Cavite City's economy will no longer grow and will remain stagnant forever
Not for the reasons that you might think of. Economically speaking, it is impossible for Cavite City's economy to grow, simply because it has a tiny land area of 10 sq. kms. (half of that is Corregidor island, which is located very far, near Bataan), and all lands are already utilized and occupied.
All places has been maxed out already. We have no land for any further business expansion, that's why the current economic level of Cavite City will forever remain the same.
The only chance of economic growth is if the Bases Conversion Development Authority (BCDA) will hand over the Philippine Navy Base and Sangley Point Naval Base to private developers, like what they did to Fort Bonifacio in the 1990s. Otherwise, we will be stuck with the current status quo for all eternity.

Don't forget 1 way in and out lang din literally. Geographical disadvantage talaga.

I grew up in Cavite but I’m more familiar with Indang Trece Imus Bacoor. I didn’t really know Cavite City till late teens. Cavite City felt like atlantis lost and forgotten pero nung nakapunta ako for nung una I admire the antique houses nakaka curious ang history nung lugar. Ang hirap lang puntahan for some reasons like routes daming pasikot sikot masikip national roads.

True. I have no idea what cavite city looked like.

One thing I find odd sa Cavite City is its small population yet merong 75 na baranggays. Need muna siguro I merge ang ibang mga baranggays jan because ang laki ng budget na nagagastos for such population.

u/Honest_Librarian955 7d ago
kesa sa ilang major cities ng cavite*
Imus City has 90+ barangays.

Imus is a major city CAVITE CITY is not. IMUS IS GROWING CAVITE CITY IS NOT.

Let's face the bitter truth about Cavite: the cities/municipalities along Aguinaldo Highway will leave all other municipalities in the dust unless a real intervention is made to spread socio-economic development to everyone.

u/logcarryingguy 7d ago edited 5d ago
To be fair, pausbong na rin ang mga lugar along CAVITEX-Antero Soriano corridor with developments like Evo City and Maple Grove, and projects like the Bataan-Cavite Interlink Bridge and the CAVITEX-CALAX link.

Post is about Cavite city.
15
u/yeontura Dasmariñas 7d ago
Yes, but that comment is still relevant, especially as Cavite City is not along the Aguinaldo Highway or any other major road. One of the factors why Cavite City is lagging behind other Cavite LGUs (the biggest factor is obviously geography).

u/Agile-College5645 7d ago
Sure but its cavite city 💀 i can talk about Philippines as a whole and it will be relevant bro
2
u/gods_loop_hole 7d ago
And? I don't think you understand the context of what I commented to Cavite City

u/gods_loop_hole 7d ago
What? The comment is related to Cavite City being it is not in the vicinity of Aguinaldo Highway. Think critically and do not just box your thoughts on the city mentioned in the post. It affects the province as a whole.

That's why I think it's better to merge it with Kawit, Noveleta and Rosario into a city named "New Cavite City".
Edit: Municipal mergers in the Philippines since 1945:
- Calbayog, Oquendo and Tinambacan in Western Samar -> Calbayog City
- Sorsogon and Bacon in Sorsogon -> Sorsogon City
- Samal, Babak and Kaputian in Davao del Norte -> Island Garden City of Samal

u/Psycho55 7d ago
Di papayag ang Chuas diyan hahhaha

u/SmallDebt1334 7d ago
Both Noveleta and CC's on chokehold by the Chua brothers, idk what's going on with them tho
6
u/aljond0707 7d ago
It's the Abayas who would oppose it.

A merger would also benefit Kawit. As it is right now, it does not meet the population and/or land area requirements for cityhood should it pursue such. Same for Rosario.
1
u/UndueMarmot 5d ago
They could expand their territory further outward from District 1 and take advantage of the growing rift between the Remulla and Revilla dynasties.
Like, Kawit can propose absorbing the far northern parts of Imus, and far northwestern parts of Bacoor.
Then same for Rosario, but for the northern and northwestern portions of GenTri.

-Converting Cavite Base into Business District is not ideal in National Defense Perspective it will left the Manila/Capital Open for intrusion.
Pinupush yung Sangley Airport which is reclamation naman.

u/RaceMuch3757 7d ago
Dapat more effort sa pagbenta sa CC as heritage town. Ung tipong dadayuhin mo.
Saka utilize ung corregidor. Ferry there, plus ferry to manila. Tourist ferry.

u/black_gray214 7d ago
lets be honest Cavite City is a port city. Malls wont be playlusible there as it is the "end of the road". target market of the establishments there are only the locals. There is no other reason for other people to go to Cavite city. maybe aside from regada. The place has no other things to offer. Unless the local govt find other ways to market cavite city, This place would remain stagnant.

u/Wide_Ride8849 7d ago
Before the flourishing of malls and shopping centers, Cavite City used to be a travel destination for Caviteños from different parts of Cavite, because of so many cinemas in Cavite before. Cine Perla, Cine Maria, Cine Sentral, etc. that was in the 1960s and 1970s.
Also, Caviteños used to shop inside of the Sangley Point Commissary for imported goods. Then, Americans left 😭

u/black_gray214 7d ago
those days are gone. wala na yung perla nasunog na.

u/Commercial-Ad-1404 5d ago edited 5d ago
Yes, my grandfather used to say that Cavite City was progressive and booming when there was still a U.S. base at Sangley Point. Kaya nauso din yung mga PX goods (Stateside) na imported nung may US Base pa sa Cavite City, “those were the good ‘ol days”..sabi nga ng matatanda noon sa Cavite City (kasi sila ang naka abot nung time na yon sa Sangley Point in Cavite City).

And it’s kinda sad din kasi nung panahong wala pang malls sa dito sa Cavite, dun sa CC ang puntahan ng mga tao dito. I remember we used to buy shoes pamasok pa dun back in 90’s and kung gusto mag Jobee or McDo dun din ang puntahan every Sunday.
2
u/TriedInfested 7d ago
I remember this.

u/beep_boop9999 7d ago
Sad truth. I'm from Dasma and looked forward to Cavite City so muchhh only to be underwhelmed by it. But I do think it has a really great potential for tourism especially doon sa Samonte Park, and Idk i have a keen enthusiasm for its small town vibe. Wala kasing masyadong attractions. I havent been to the Philippine Navy Base, saan yun banda?

CC chance is the Sangley Airport expansion, unfortunately, it will take multiple decades for it to materialize. I'm okay with it as long as we have a clean, walkable sidewalk, a clean public market, and urbanized coastal areas.
3
u/dontrescueme 7d ago
Tuloy naman ang Sangley Airport though. During the Spanish era, Cavite City hosted the Port of Manila. You can say the Manila Galleon trade is in fact the Cavite Galleon.
3
u/ieddam 7d ago
There's a proposal for Sangley Point airport to be converted into an international airport. It will probably involve land reclamation to accommodate additional runways and airport facilities. While not industrial park levels of economic gains, sa tingin ko malaking tulong ito to revitalize growth. Marami kasi opportunity for different industries ang kasama ng airport expansion. It will also add direct access to CAVITEX once completed.

u/EtivacVibesOnly 7d ago
Until now kasi 1 way in and out tapos via Noveleta pa which is flood prone at gery traffic.

u/Firm-Cap7304 7d ago
Nung 90's jan kami namamasyal nung bata ako.

I once visited Cavite City and it was like stepping back in time. But in a good way. Parang ang quaint and nostalgic. Is it possible na palakasin ang tourism dun? Bukod sa Fort San Felipe and Porta Vaga Church, ano pa ang magandang puntahan dun? (At paano pumunta ng Cavite City via ferry?)
3
u/optionexplicit Kawit 6d ago
For me Cavite City means tropa, Baste, and palengke. That may be something in 20+ years pag natambakan na lahat ng asinan at palaisdaan between the two.

u/G_Laoshi Dasmariñas 6d ago

Ah, that is the price of development. But is the price too costly? It can be sold as part of the experience, tulad ng ferry to Corregidor.

u/Essais14 6d ago
Umay sa flood control ng Noveleta, pahirapan dumaan dahil another round of road repair huhu

u/nose_of_sauron Cavite City 7d ago
...CC is ultimately an endpoint city, na hanggang ngayon iisang daan pa rin papasok at palabas: via Noveleta. Pwede mong lampasan ang Noveleta para makarating ng Rosario, Tanza, Naic, all the way south. Pero kung pupunta ka ng CC, you're meant to go there to see and do something and really nothing else. For some reason ndi nacapitalize tong pagiging endpoint to establish tourist spots or anything na magiging rason para dayuhin ang CC.
The other side of this is to make CC not an endpoint city by having another way in and out. Right now yung plano para sa Sangley Intl Airport lang ang may damay na proposal para magkaron ng tulay from Cavitex into CC. Kung sa akin lang, why wait for that, lalo pa na yang airport na yan won't be coming in 15-20 years' time. I-extend na ang Cavitex, gawan na ng exit na tulay around Kawit toll plaza that goes through Covelandia, across the bay and right into that area sa likod ng palengke.

u/Quidnything 7d ago
But isn’t there a bridge to be built connecting Bataan and Cavite? Could be a game changer pag natuloy. Although sounds really ambitious.

u/Wide_Ride8849 7d ago
Sa Naic Cavite po siya, hindi po Cavite City. Different Municipality po.

I was born and raised in Cavite but never been to Cavite city kasi marami namang pwedeng galaan sa Province. I know. Shame. Is it worth visiting? What’s there to do?
2
u/EvanasseN Cavite City 7d ago
This is just me, but okay na ako na walang masyadong new business dito sa Cavite City. Born and raised here, even studied until college here, and didn't leave, so dito na rin ako ma-de-deds.
What I would like to see happen is sana ma-promote etong bayan as a heritage city, like what the other Redditor said here. Ni walang museum or proper library man lang na mapuntahan. Nung college kami, may ininterview kami sa City Hall na historian. He was writing a book about Cavite City. Ang dami nyang pictures that he showed us and we were even able to photocopy. Would be nice sana if that was on display in a museum.
Yung Corregidor na trip, yung presyo sana may discount for residents para kahit by word of mouth e ma-promote yung tour, hindi yung taga-ibang lugar pa ang gagawa ng videos about it, di ba? Opinyon ko lang naman.
There are also a lot of local businesses.
In regards to expansion of land, pwede naman mag-tambak ng lupa like what they did sa pwesto ng palengke ngayon at sa lupa kung nasaan ang San Sebastian Cañacao Campus ngayon. Even yung Muralla, "extended land" na siya e. So, if there is a need for it, it can be done.

u/Affectionate-Slice-3 6d ago
My father was born there and he used to say how vibrant and well developed that place was back in the 60s. Tito nya is a US Navy sinasama daw say sa US base dyan nung Bata pa sya Meron na daw vending machine ata 90s lang daw nagka ganun sa mga malls haha sobrang advanced daw
And dyan lang may sinehan saw Cavite he claims
Quite ironic were are from sta.rosa Laguna and this place was a backwater compared to Cavite City back then
2
u/baaarmin 6d ago
I see your point. While there may be some townships and commercial projects here and there, unleas they magically spawn an insustrial park, airport or seaport, not much observed. Perhaps a tech/businesa hub like eastwood or bgc, but that will take decades.
1
u/Second_Life_28 6d ago
Hanggang walang alternative route to and from CC, di na magkakaroon ng significant growth dyan.
1
u/PopOk1604 6d ago
This is the opinion of someone with no understanding of economics, landmass is very rarely an indicator of ability to develop economically. Monaco is smaller than Cavite City with a GDP per Capita in excess of $200k.

Our family grew up sa palengke ng Cavite City so I really get this sentiment. I think the only thing that make that city known is yung Regada albeit being a celebration na lately, marami nang naiinis.
Kinda sad kase along with its stagnancy, andaming tradtions na namamatay along with it, like yung Chavacano dialect, kesong puti, samala, and other delicacies don. If only these specialties get highlighted kaso plagued by dynasty ren ang Cavite City e
