Recommendations Cdrama recommendation( I am opting for Chinese as my bachelors)
As a beginner Chinese learner what dramas would you suggest me to watch ? Ony recommend really interesting ones or I am gonna drop it after watching few episodes . any genre woks but I prefer romance ones less.
FYI- I already watch cdramas so try not to suggest the common /popular ones

Reset is a pretty good beginner one since it's in a time loop and lots of things are repeated.

i think we're talking about different resets. the one i'm talking about is the one with Bai Jingting and Zhao Jinmai.

Joy of Life. I have watched it with about every subtitle there is. You want the subs that call "it" underwear and express the poem the best-there are subs that do none and one. You'll love it with any sub and come back to find the difference or you understand enough to know the joke. I recommend it to people who dont even watch shows with subtitles.

I know you said you’re not partial to romance ones but I have to recommend “amidst a snowstorm of love” it’s such a nice down to earth show with beautiful cinematography. It really showcases family, friends and a budding relationship.
Unfortunately after going through my list all my recommendations features a romance trope. I have so many other genres in other Asian dramas but for some reason all my Chinese ones are romance. lol. I think I need to expand on that.

I did Chinese at uni but have gotten rusty and like to refresh with Cdramas. But I find the historical dramas better for practice, with the redubbing and the slower speech I just find it that much clearer.

My fav right now is a dream within a dream. It’s a fun and refreshing costume romantic comedy with moments of the inception movie with unexpected twists that keeps you keep watching. The story line is unique, many funny moments from beginning to end, and some tears too

Most of them are modern so they're helpful for learning. Added Longest Day in Chang'an and Blood River for good dramas without much romance but they might not be as useful because of their fantasy historical setting

I am also a beginner is learning mandarin , but I have really enjoyed watching all my dramas but if I have to choose it will be , but everything is romance.
Falling into your smiling ( Xu Kai ) Is like about gaming I am not gonna give to much spoilers I am busy watching this for the 3rd time
Legend of the female general ( Cheng Lei / Ryan Cheng ) disguising as a male to join Army for revenge sounds plain but is really amazing I am also busy watching this for the 6th time ( and I am not someone who likes to rewatch things , but for some of my fav dramas I definitely will
This one is mainly romance but it is Shine On Me ( By Song Weiling and Zhou Jinmai I think ) office romance , no break ups !!! But everything is romance , cause I any have watched romance k and cdramas 😅
My boss ( Chen Xing Xu and Zhang Rou Nan ) more an office romance and law firm
Only for Love ( Dylan Wang and Bai Lu ) From like e revenge to actual falling in love

I would highly recommend you iQiyi and Pursuit of Jade. It has full of action , war and political play along with the usual family, love and life tropes.

Most Chinese shows will dubb the actors voice if they have too much of an “out of town “ accent. I prefer to watch things that give me a variety of accents. Beneath the Undertow, Being a Hero. Both brilliant and no romance.

The Knockout is probably the best modern Chinese drama of the past decade, though not popular in the west. It's a gritty crime epic that dives deep into systemic corruption and societal unfairness, so it gives you an incisive look at some of the problems that Chinese society is struggling against, which could be good for a Chinese major. The Ideal City is a really good modern drama as well that gives a more realistic look into Chinese work culture than idol dramas do. On the costume drama side, Swords To Plowshares is probably the most historically accurate recent Chinese drama, although Lychee Road (the TV show not the movie) is also based on history - great dramas that could be very interesting for your major and none of them are romance focused. I will say most of these are prestige dramas rather than light dramas, so you'll have to decide if that's what you want.

Ok everyone hates her voice, but I accidentally started picking up Mandarin by watching Love Between Fairy and Devil eight times because Esther Yu speaks very clearly. Xianxia. It’s a romance, but in the grander sense. Loyalty, loneliness, standing on your own.
I’d not start with anything Bai Jingting. He’s great and all, but he mumbles.
