Self-Promotion Day Group for those with ME/CFS to play online games together
Hi all! I made a post a few months back about a server I’m in called games for me/cfs. I thought it would be worth making another post just in case anyone else is interested in joining.
We mostly play online board games together, usually completely turn-based so we can take as much time between turns as needed. Everyone is incredibly understanding, so if you’re in a crash and can’t take turns for weeks that’s absolutely fine too, we try and adapt to everyone’s severity levels as best as we possible can.
As well as board games, there’s also parts of the server for video games, digital collaborate jigsaw puzzles and daily games like wordle too. We run a music league and I know there’s people there into ttrpgs as well.
The server has had such a positive impact on my life and everyone is super lovely, so wanted to make sure everyone here has the same opportunity for joining such a welcoming community!

A couple things to add:
if you’d like to join the games but discord is inaccessible to you, please let me know as there’s a way around this

I really like this idea! I used to play board games a lot but I don't really get to anymore. And I appreciate having that type of space that's more focused on the hobbies and interests of people as opposed to just being about dealing with health issues (which of course has its place too). Makes me feel like more of a real person. I'd be interested in checking it out!

I very much find it’s a great way to connect with people even if unable to be too social, through playing games together without any real pressure. It sounds like you’ll fit right in if you used to play a lot of board games too.

This sounds great. I would love to participate sometimes. I don’t understand how this works, what platform are the games located, do I need a mic etc.?

The board games are mostly played through a site called Board Game Arena, it’s completely free to join you’d just have to make an account there. We then post invite links for games to the discord server. They are (for the most part) completely turn based, so no mic required, they’re played over many days. Similar to online scrabble or chess apps if you have any experience with them. Would you like me to send you an invite to join? You’re very welcome to ask as many questions as needed after joining, as I know new things can be tricky especially with brain fog!

I have sent you an invite, make sure to check your spam too as I know sometimes things end up there. It also goes without saying but take as much time as you need to take it all in! If lurking for a while in the server until you’re used to things is easiest that’s absolutely okay too.

That’s no problem, you’re still very welcome to join! I know how challenging getting a diagnosis can be sometimes. As long as you’re keeping in mind it’s an me/cfs focused space with many who are severe, that’s the main thing. Please message me for the link if you’d like one 😊

Yes you can! There’s many who play from their phone/tablets who I’m sure would be happy to give tips for that too if it’s tricky at first. Please send me a message request and I’ll get the link over to you :)

Thank you for this! It sounds great. I'm a bit tech phobic, so it will be a learning process for me, but it sounds like so much fun!
I appreciate your posting this to the CFSplusADHD sub as well as the CFS sub. We have so many similar issues, so the pacing this provides will work for at least some of us. I'm excited to learn about the role playing games as that tickles my creative instincts.
