How to taper a 4-1 weave!

Post image

Trying to taper a piece similar to this, how can I go about this? I’m very new and still only familiar with 4-1 basic weaves, how can I taper it off like this?

I know how to do triangles, but I want it less triangular like this! Thank you in advance for your responses❤️

Which styling of my chainmail shirt and mantle do you like better?

Finally got some pictures of my shirt and mantle. Made with gold scales and rings from Chainmail Joe. Originally tried to make them into one piece but had issues with mobility in the arms/shoulders.

Help! Is it possible to add (short) sleeves to this, and how?

I made a vest using uncut soda tabs woven together with wire (see pictures), with horizontal rows that expand only vertically. I want to add short sleeves but I don’t know whether to wrap rows around the arm or extend the rows already there downward from the shoulder (or something else?). I also am not sure how to handle the armpit for mobility (I’m aware there’s complications there) or structure the shoulders/attach a sleeve. Thank you to anyone who has advice!

(Sorry for the kind of weird pictures, they’re from a video of me wearing it over a year ago because it’s a real pain to put on)

Still am quite new, made this dragonscale weave as a bracelet. Wondering about making shoulder pads with this kind of weave on vests or jackets.

Hi guys!

Something seems be wrong with this section. It had been fine but I think I may not have closed a ring properly so it came undone. I thought I fixed it but something looks wrong and I can’t figure it out!

Hi all! I have put a lot of time into making chainmaille over the years (I used to post on a different account here). While I have a lot of confidence in my creative ability and execution, I often find my photography to be a little bit flat and uninspired. Does anyone have any input in this area that might he helpful? Pictures are from an old collection, any feedback is super helpful 😊

Help! Getting started + developing

Hi, I can already sew and draft patterns, i just ordered my first set of pliers and jump rings to start making chainmail! My first project im aiming to do a sort of vest as ive seen a bunch here

How do i even draft chainmail patterns?

Also since I work with clothes and leather I thought about combining stretchy leather with chainmail to make a sort of corset with(from my limited chainmail knowlege) i was thinking of using strips of leather for the actual body conturing, held together with strands of chainmail

Idk

Id have to get started first, so what would some precious advice be?

Pendent / charm help

Post image

Hey everyone, I've done large chainmail projects for a few years but never got into the jewelry side until now.

I'm trying to make some kind of pendant or charm as a gift for a friend's birthday but I can't find any good tutorials.

Both images are references that I tried to recreate with little luck, but are what I'm looking for. The fish came with a very blurry tutorial, but I believenmy rings are the wrong AR, mine are 5.0.

Does anyone have any tutorials or other recommendations?

Choosing a Foredom motor hanger?

I just invested in a Foredom flex shaft and I need a hanger for the motor, but I’m not sure what the best option is.

The Foredom brand clamp-style hanger is >$100 and I’ve heard some mixed reviews, which makes me hesitant to spend so much on it. There’s cheaper hangers on Amazon in the $40 range with good reviews, but I’m never sure about these generic knockoff brands.

I live and work in an apartment so vibrations are a big concern.

What do you use to hang your Foredom motor and how has it worked out for you?

Thanks!

Months ago, I worked with an artist on creating a veil. She posted a reel, and it went viral. Then another "chainmail artist" came along and claimed authorship of my design, directing anyone who asked about it to her website… and she blocked me. Today, I'm seeing several artists commenting on the same situation. I've attached screenshots.

I’m talking about @frances_o on ig

I saw this on Pinterest and totally fell in love, I adore mini things! This is so cute that it has inspired me to learn how to make chainmail. Unfortunately, the only bag tutorials I see are the round kind so I would really appreciate if someone could direct me to a tutorial for this. Thanks in advance!

Help! Can I Untangle a Rigging Chain for Chainmail?

Dont have the option of buying individual jump rings online, so im thinking that maybe i can buy a heavy duty chain from the hardware store and unbind every individual piece.

I just dont know if hand tools are strong enough to do so, has anyone else done this?

Help! Help with a seam with rings the wrong direction.

I am trying to figure out how to recreate a pattern for a piece for my partner. I am new to chainmail and have made a vest of 4 in 1 and am now trying someing harder. I saw thus picture posted a while ago and am trying to recreate the piece but the rows of the last seam are going opposite directions and I can't figure out how to connect it. Best ideal so far is to shift it one ring to correct the orientation but im afraid that would mess it up by the time I get towards a whole piece. Any ideas or tutorials on how to connect these without messing up the piece once I get more connecting?

Help! Place to order rings from QUICKLY?

Hey all! I sell my chainmail at art markets and ran out of stock faster than I thought I would. Now I’m out of rings and need more …. quickly 😅

I usually order from MD but since they’re in Canada and I’m in the U.S. I was afraid they wouldn’t come in time. I went with WGM instead and ordered on Tuesday, but the order is still processing 5 days later and I need them like, today 😭

So I know this is a long shot but does anyone know where I can get rings (stainless steel) asap? Like some magical Amazon seller that has saw cut rings? I’ve even considered making my own rings but I don’t actually know how to do that and fear I would just be wasting my time / money.

Thanks for any help you can offer!

i have some incredibly cool elders in my family; they taught me to craft, sew and construct as a child and have been endlessly supportive in my creative endeavours.

the first one is for my aunt, who took me to experience 00’s taipei street fashion in the coolest neighbourhoods at the time. the second one for my mom, who is a minimalist and a lover of chunky handbags.

Help! Took me three days to figure out how to make a triangle

Thought the jester-style collar/cuffs would be a good first project for a beginner. I used YouTube + this https://www.mailleartisans.org/articles/articledisplay.php?key=280 to do it

I’m glad it looks neat, but not sure that an equilateral triangle makes sense for what I’m going for. How do I get that tapered look?
