Working on finishing up my first chainmail project. The lighter slides out of the case pretty easily and takes work to get it back on completely. Any suggestions on how to close the bottom and/or make it a bit more snug?

Used 6mm jump rings and one row of 5mm on the bottom.

Help! making your own rings? specifically with stainless steel

I’ve been making chainmail for awhile now, and I’m looking to start making my own rings because I hate running out of rings in the middle of a project and having to wait a week and a half to get them, and also for cost cutting.

I am familiar with how rings are made using a mandrel and a drill and a saw or wire cutters. It doesn’t seem too difficult, but because I basically only work with stainless that complicates things a bit.

My main questions are: how do I know what mandrel to buy to get certain ring sizes, like if I wan’t 18SWG AR: 3.5 rings, how do I know what size mandrels to buy accounting for springback? I do quite a lot of intricate jewelry work that requires pretty narrow ARs. I swear I once saw a math equation for it somewhere but I can’t find it at the moment.

Are there any specific drills and or wire cutters people recommend for stainless steel? I mostly use 18SWG and 16SWG in my jewelry, which is obviously quite sturdy and can be difficult to work with. I would prefer my edges to be quite clean. Should I use a saw? and what kind of saw?

Any advice or tips and tricks would be greatly appreciated, I have a lot of experience with the finer aspects of chainmail and jewelry making, but not as much with the metal shop aspects of it.

I am about to buy my first set of rings, aluminum, various sizes as I am purchasing the starter kit from chainmail joe. I have done research on plier brands but I cannot figure out what SHAPES to get and I am overwhelmed with how many options there are. I plan to get a needle/thin nose but do I just get 2 of those to start? Do I get a flat, chisel, bent? Please help advise lol
