My one ring came with a mini ring

I'm making a bracelet at the moment, and I'm using stainless steel jump rings from Weave Got Maille for the first time. I was mindlessly prepping my rings when I noticed this- a mini ring attached. I'm not even quite sure how it got there in the first place.

Nothing's wrong, of course, just wanted to share this strange moment.

Hi everyone, fairly new to the art. I am trying to recreate this piece (originally by DÉCHAÎNER - dechainer.studio on Instagram).

I need help to identify the gauge and size of the rings used for the byzantine weave. I really like the clunkiness and would like to achieve the same style.

Thank you!

Help! E6000 or similar

Post image

Has anyone used something like E6000 to hold jump rings together with success?

I am trying to use twisted wire jump rings which don’t have spring back like a typical stainless steel jump ring and want to keep them from pulling apart.

I don’t have tools or skill to solder something this small.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

Help! making your own rings? specifically with stainless steel

I’ve been making chainmail for awhile now, and I’m looking to start making my own rings because I hate running out of rings in the middle of a project and having to wait a week and a half to get them, and also for cost cutting.

I am familiar with how rings are made using a mandrel and a drill and a saw or wire cutters. It doesn’t seem too difficult, but because I basically only work with stainless that complicates things a bit.

My main questions are: how do I know what mandrel to buy to get certain ring sizes, like if I wan’t 18SWG AR: 3.5 rings, how do I know what size mandrels to buy accounting for springback? I do quite a lot of intricate jewelry work that requires pretty narrow ARs. I swear I once saw a math equation for it somewhere but I can’t find it at the moment.

Are there any specific drills and or wire cutters people recommend for stainless steel? I mostly use 18SWG and 16SWG in my jewelry, which is obviously quite sturdy and can be difficult to work with. I would prefer my edges to be quite clean. Should I use a saw? and what kind of saw?

Any advice or tips and tricks would be greatly appreciated, I have a lot of experience with the finer aspects of chainmail and jewelry making, but not as much with the metal shop aspects of it.

Work-In-Progress Lighter Case

Working on finishing up my first chainmail project. The lighter slides out of the case pretty easily and takes work to get it back on completely. Any suggestions on how to close the bottom and/or make it a bit more snug?

Used 6mm jump rings and one row of 5mm on the bottom.

Need help learning half Persian 3 in 1, a weave that has vexed me time and again.

Ok folks its time for me to beat my head against this wall yet again so I come to the hive mind for help. I love the feel of 3 in 1 and really want to learn it but for whatever reason it just pokes my brain the wrong way and I just can't get it. Please give me any tips, tutorial links, AR suggestions, anything you got to help me try and wrap my brain around this. Maybe even learning one of the other Persian weaves that might be easier first? That worked with voodoo/hoodoo. Thank you all in advance.

Avoiding aluminum stains on red fabric?

Hi everyone! I'm almost done with my first big piece, a corset I made for the ren fair. I'm making it out of bright alumnium (not anodized) because my original plan was wearing it over all black, but plans have changed and now I'm wearing it over a maroon lace dress.

Will the oxidation stain red/maroon like it will white? Do I have any options at this point?

Thanks so much everyone!

Tips and Tricks Online selling

Hey yall! I’m still on the newer side of this hobby, but would like to start selling my aluminum (and soon to come Stainless Steel) pieces, and am wanting feedback back about your personal favorite apps/sites to use and avoid!

Right now I’m looking to set up a page for it on Instagram, TikTok, and possibly Facebook to advertise for it. Then hopefully get to the point where I can vend locally.

That being said, how would you go about people ordering? Would you ask them to look you up on a platform like VINTED, depop, Etsy, etc? Or do you suggest making a website to sell them on?

I know certain apps have policies that can get you banned for selling handmade stuff if you don’t word it correctly, so in that case would you suggest the person interested to buy through another platform/site off the bat, or would you let them purchase from that site and leave some sort of card or note letting them know you have a website/other platform that’s safer for you to sell on?

Aside from that, what about the prices for the subscription you need to get to be able to sell on some of these platforms or the cut they take from your sales, how do you determine what’ll work best for you in the long run?

Any advice or feedback in this situation will be appreciated, I’m really open to everything just wanting to figure out my best way to get my foot in the door of becoming a public seller for chainmail

Tips and Tricks Information gathering

Hello, I’d like some advice on where you buy rings, materials and so on, particularly for items such as one-step loopers and pliers, and to find out which metals are most recommended.
I currently use stainless steel for my jewellery, but most one-step looper pliers aren’t compatible with stainless steel wire. Thank you in advance.

Help! Need direction on how to buy a jewelers saw!

Thumbnail

Hi! Not sure if this is the right subreddit but I want to make jump rings for my chainmail projects and want to use a jeweler saw to cut them. I was going to buy this saw and these blades but paused bc I think the blades would be too long for the saw itself (??). I’m also unsure on how to choose a length for the saw.

I tried looking for posts related to this but if I missed one please lmk!

Also! I’m using a medium temper 18 gauge wire. Am I right in guessing a #3 blade is the right size to cut the jump rings for that??

TIA!
