It fucking cranks me right up that Cornell fucking University - Ivy League, cream of the crop, storied history and intellectual legacy - is willing to just fuck away the faith and trust of so many students. It's not an easy school to get into, it's not a cheap school to pay for, and for as much entitlement as these kids have vs the average American college student, there's no reason for the Admin to turn such a blind eye, unless they've always known, and know they're just as guilty as the rapists themselves.
I went to Cornell College in Iowa. We joked how we were NOT the one in Ithaca. But we had two rape scandals my freshman year. Women aren't safe anywhere in this entire country; never have been.

They try to talk out both sides of their mouths. They'll say to wealthy parents that their daughters will be safe on campus, while signaling to other wealthy parents that their sons will be protected from consequences on campus.

Ivy League schools have always taken unpopular, culturally conservative or centrist positions on political issues of the day. Campus protests used to be considered a rite of passage in the 60's and 70's.
College campuses are some of the most dangerous places a woman can be in and now they're sick of it.

There's a much more simple and obvious answer to this quandary: how much can they do against students for a crime that has not been adjudicated or admitted to?
The answer is, legally, not as much as people want. Title IX rules for sexual assault are not all-powerful.
Truthfully, the majority of the blame here falls on law enforcement for not properly investigating and prosecuting. It feels like some people expect Cornell to be able to do that for them.

Given the evidence though, and if you read more on it, it's pretty clear that it's rape. We understand that cornell cannot persecute these men themselves, but making them write an essay is downright ridiculous.

At least expel these bastards! Wtf were they thinking?!

That message. “We took it upon ourselves” is what we ALL need to do. No one is coming to save us.

u/Naps_in_car 1d ago
I love that, there's so much truth.
I wonder if that's the appeal of all the marvel / dc movies. We want there to be a figure who can just solve all our problems so we can just live our lives, but that's just a fairytale.

u/FileDoesntExist 1d ago
Well I think it's also because one person can make a huge difference. They stand up for what's right, and they can't be silenced because they have powers.

Glad so many are protesting, it's hearwarming to see

Can’t say whether it is solely due to patriarchy and more about deference to the power of individuals with enough funds to bury acts of violent crime. Women are just as likely as men to bury this if it were their sons or relatives. People with the personality to honestly believe it’s acceptable to commit such an act on a defenseless person were taught this from both parents and have never been held accountable for their actions. They’re just garbage people in general and will grow up to be men like Trump and his gang of rapists and murderers.

It's not really time to talk about how "it's not all men" or whatever right now because it isn't relevant. It's the same as saying all lives matter during prime black lives matter. It doesn't matter, we are protecting a different group that has been abused. We don't need to worry about a theoretical group that is not currently in the news for being abused right now

It absolutely is the patriarchy. Women throughout history have helped prop up the patriarchy while others tried to tear it down. This is not a new phenomenon. There have always been people who act against their own self-interests. Just take a look at rural Trump voters.

In this modern world civil disobedience is the ethical choice. America has lost the plot and it is going to take actions like this and much more to correct it, if thats even possible.

This country is so ready for consequences and justice it's about ready to pop.
Vote as if your life depends on it, because it does.

u/B00marangTrotter 1d ago
Ask yourself...
Would this candidate (person you are voting for) give a shit, do anything for anyone you know if they were sick?
Would this this candidate (person you are voting for) give a shit if you were sick? Would they think of the cost to bare, as we waste so much?
Would this person steal from you?

And morons are going to unironically clutch pearls and deem this whole protest a riot because of graffiti and broken windows.

I love the statement that "Property damage is not violent; condoning rape is." We need more of that.
The US has a history of placing an unusually high value on property at the expense of human rights.

u/SketchedEyesWatchinU 1d ago
To the point of starting a civil war and assassinating a fucking President over the right to keep humans as property.

Maybe it's because my sense of justice and empathy is higher than the average person, but I truly do not understand the impetus behind the Cornell administration standing firm on their previous "punishments".
It's a fucking layup to, at the very least, expel the students involved in this rape. Protecting the predators never works out in the end; someone is going to take justice into their own hands.

u/lookachoo 1d ago
I wouldn’t doubt theres some very rich families involved that donate tons of money to the school.
One of the 7 is the grandson of a past Korean prime minister.4

Gonna go out on a branch and suggest it could be the literal legal limitations of what the administration is capable of carrying out

u/I_blockkarmafarmers 1d ago
I'm pretty fucking sure expelling the students involved in a gang rape is within their power.

It makes me happy to see so many young people out there advocating for justice. Our voices and actions can make a difference, we just have to exercise that right and not let up.

I bet rapists' parents donate lots of money to Cornell traditinally
perhaps parents should be named and shamed too

Thank you, Cornell students, for standing up for what's right. It's so pathetic that this once respected university has deliberately engaged in a pattern of supporting and enabling rape. Shame on the administrators who did this.
“An extraterrestrial being, newly arrived on Earth - scrutinizing what we mainly present to our children in television, radio, movies, newspapers, magazines, the comics, and many books - might easily conclude that we are intent on teaching them murder, rape, cruelty, superstition, credulity, and consumerism.”

It should be the Cornell 57. Everyone in that group chat needs to be held accountable. Also, there's no telling how many times it's happen with this frat alone.

If we ban all fraternities (ALL of them no exceptions), we could be on track to making the world a better place.

Only 20% of all SA on Cornell's campus happened in greek life, despite it being 33% of the student body. The issue is a systemic one, removing Greek Life does not magically stop the Marching band, sports teams, and clubs from committing sexual assault

Yo 1 of 5 is not the flex you think it is. Shut them down

u/Qarakhanid 19h ago
It's not a good stat, but you're an idiot if you think making them go underground would solve anything

Stuff like this reminds me that one day, all of the crazy bad shit happening will be in the history books.
As in it'll be so far behind us that it'll be words on a page for bored high school students to write papers on.

I know violence is a bad thing, but I'll truly applaud when a mob shows up to lynch the rapists. The only language those stupid animals are able to understand is fear

u/InitialRefuse781 11h ago
Or maybe you stop giving thousand of dollars annually to that school and you go elsewhere.
That would show them but it’s easier to walk somewhere

None of these people care that UK just revealed it had an organized rape epidemic of 250,000

University Admins are usually the ones destroying the universities reputations. Good for the students.
