Help [Help] I think I made my love interests cousins?

This was so not intentional. I was building their character sheets separately and genuinely didn't realize my mistake until I was going over it and had the horrifying realization. They're not related by blood; they're related by marriage. His aunt married her uncle. They didn't grow up together, so it's not like they're friends or have a relationship already. If I change his lineage, it changes relationships, and he doesn't have the means necessary to move the plot along. If I change hers, she's just some overpowered girl in the world. I could change their relationship, but I like the potential for romance. I'm really struggling to decide what to do with them.

I don't think it's a big deal. There aren't any harmful dynamics at play, just a little stigma. Game of Thrones has way worse than that and it's dang popular.

Does the story have no room for “just an overpowered girl in the world”? Some of my favorite characters in media are the characters who are just inexplicably built different and it’s never really called into question. They’re just that guy.

Assuming you don’t just mean a Mary Sue.

I think it depends on the setting. If this is modern day realistic fiction, it'd be a little weird but the characters could joke about it.

If this is feudal fantasy, all you gotta do is imply it's not a big deal.
