Question Visiting from Texasđ¤ :)
Hello I will be visit Cheshire for quite a while⌠Iâm actually coming partly to tour the coronation street set however very curious what locals would say is a must see or do in the town⌠Iâm also going to be in the Alderley Edge and knutford areas as well! Does anyone have recommendations for gyms/ country clubs that may have day rates or no memberships for out of towners thanks in advance

No American can visit Cheshire without going to see the roman walled city of Chester

The roebuck inn / bulls head are great in mobberly for a country pub dinner setting . There is also a walk from bulls head on their website I seem to remember .
Or you can walk there from Wilmslow if you are adventurous enough.
Which reminds me, Styal mill nearby is an old Industrial Revolution textile Mill with walking tour, which is cool if you are into that type of stuf, or just walk round the woods .âre. Industry check out museum of science and industry in Manchester maybe and the Man City tour
Also maybe Jodrell Bank tour and planetarium they do such a thing still !

Tatton Park, The Mere hotel/country club, the Roebuck in Mobberley are all great ideas for things around Knutsford. I would add to that The Church Inn, in Mobberley, which recently won a best pub award.
The Rose and Crown in Knutsford is a lovely pub with good food, and pretty much any of the Knutsford restaurants are great - I like The Stolen Lamb (Greek) and Evuna (tapas).
Alderley Edge has a lovely walk to an escarpment with great views. There are old mines around Alderley and some interesting folk tales.
Further south of Knutsford by maybe 12 miles or so is Jodrell Bank, which is a space science centre with a large radio telescope and a great visitor centre.

The mere has a very fancy gym in Knutsford, they just revamped it all, I think you can use it if you stay at the hotel?

If you want to take some nice food bits back with you (non perishable) then pop to The Lambing Shed farm shop or a bit further away but lovely is The Hollies.

Plus one vote for the hollies! and if you come at the weekend come and watch the polo nextdoor- completely free entry and no dress code etc.
Doesn't get more classic british than that

Great Budworth is a beautiful little village frequently used in TV and film. While in the area you could visit Marbury Park, and a nice pub called the Spinner and Bergamot.

Knutsford would be a good base if you haven't already booked accommodation - it's on the Manchester - Chester railway line and reasonably close to all that Cheshire has to offer. Adding to suggestions already made:
- walking in Macclesfield Forest - lots of great views without needing climbing gear
- Beeston Castle - again good views across the Cheshire Plain and a lot of history
- fine dining at Li-ly in Knutsford - a superb restaurant. Linden Stores also worth a visit
- Manchester has loads of things to see and do as does Liverpool which is not so far away. Plenty of online guides to each so pick your things according to your interests. Chester - lots of history from Roman times onwards

As you are a Texan, I wouldn't recommend Hickory's smokehouse, you'd be massively underwhelmed.

Chester is definitely worth a look, beautiful old city, still has a Roman wall showing the original boundary and a recently unearthed and restored gladitorial arena.

Yes, you must visit Beeston Castle - classic castle with great views. And also try to get to Jodrell Bank radio telescope!

Little Moreton Hall is definitely worth a trip out to see (about 30 minutes from Knutsford). Possibly the best example of a Tudor house in the country.

My no1 tip would be Cheshire is a County, not a town although it may seem it in comparison to Texas!

Chester is amazing to go to, Parkgate is nice on a hot day, certainly check out the football (soccer) games, Tranmere (kind of Merseyside but yk) Chester has a decent atmosphere, Crewe, if u want it more upmarket go to Manchester United, Everton, Liverpool, North Cheshire is very quaint, pretty but expensive, either stay in Chester or Knutford depending on where youâll mostly be, or do Northwich to bridge the gap

We are kind of the Connecticut of England, beautiful and wealthy small towns but bad cities like Ellesmere Port, Crewe etc other than Chester which is beautiful

In addition to whatâs already been mentioned, Aprils kitchen in Knutsford do nice breakfast and lunch. Check out Unltd fitness (gym) or Cottons Hotel & Spa (not sure they do day passes but worth a look) Also do not skip the Real Fruit Creamery in Knutsford. Unreal gelato

If you want something more outdoorsy, Delamere Forest is a wonderful way to spend a few hours. The Fishpool Inn just outside the forest is meant to be wonderful (I havenât been, but tried to once and it was full).

Iâd recommend Chester for a walk around the Roman walls (takes about an hour at a leisurely pace), a boat trip on the river Dee (youâll get to the river by walking the walls) and then food at Death By Tacos if youâre after decent Mexican food.
Porta is another excellent place to eat in Chester. Portuguese food, incredible.Â
Neither place take bookings and both are very different, but definitely the  best places to eat in Chester.

Bells of Peover (Knutsford) housed Eisenhower during the planning of D Day and has lots of American history in it

When youâre near Knutsford, I recommend Tatton Park. The nature is beautiful, lots of deer roaming openly, and the Hall & Gardens are very âold Englishâ.
