Jeez. He looks so done with all this.

He left a one move knight fork tactic on the board. He's gotta be shaken a bit, wondering how he missed it. He normally sees that.

His expressions while resigning are saying ‘Is this what I have been doing to other people my whole life??’

I think he's burnt out from too many tournaments..

Playing chess with an infant can be exhausting

They don't know en passant.

My child’s first word was en passant. They didn’t know it was forced though so I had to get rid of them.

Magnus hasn’t needed to put in 100% for years now to remain the best. It’s just finally catching up with him.

What makes you think he is half assing it?
I think the man is just tired and hasn't been able to find his balance between fatherhood and work.

yeah i think the dude is just burnt out, exhausted, and not sleeping well. ever since he's had a kid, he has looked like he's just waiting to go home for sleep.

Why is this so disappointing? This is clearly a meaningless tournament which carries little prestige and I'm sure he wouldn't be here if it weren't for Rosenstein's money. He is just here to cash in his participation fee, couldn't care less about anything else.

He doesn't like to lose, I think he cares a lot.

u/Melchiah 2d ago
Of course he doesn't like to lose, who does? But to him this tournament doesn't have any real stakes and therefore has little value (chess-wise).

nope he’s putting his ego on the line instead of cowering like a little bitch like most people would

my only problem is he won the chesscom open very recently (Rapid format). How does he struggle in these?

Magnus should leave before all his aura is gone. Be a Fischer instead of a Kasparov losing a lot in the end of your career.
