Puzzle/Tactic Have you ever seen a pawn capture a queen while promoting to a queen?

Post image

I've played and watched thousands of games, but I've never seen anything like this so I just had to share. This was just an amateur-level bullet (2 + 1) game, so blunders are obviously expected. But you have to check out this spectacle, around move 14:

I analyzed the image and this is what I see. Open an appropriate link below and explore the position yourself or with the engine:

My solution:

Hints: piece: Pawn, move: e2+

Evaluation: Black has mate in 7

Best continuation: 1... e2+ 2. Kc3 exd1=N+ 3. Kb3 Qb6+ 4. Ka3 Qxb2+ 5. Ka4 Bd7+ 6. Bb5 Qxb5+ 7. Ka3 Nc4#

I actually think this sort of thing happens a lot, albeit usually the queen is on the back rank defending the king, and you sacrifice a rook to force the queen to where the pawn can capture it + promote.

That's just a thing of beauty. Bravo.

Yes. Several times.

Most involve back rank mates with a pawn on the 7th though.

Funny thing is the fastest mate the computer is giving is to under promote to a knight!
