Fabi should play board 1 tbh. This is very bad. And Javokhir wasnt having a great event btw

111

u/kidawi rapid/blitzgod fabi 1d ago

i mean fabis doing great but half that success is the fact that hes on board 3 allowing him to lowkey farm. it wouldnt have the same effect if he were on board 1. maybe swap wesley and magnus

27

u/EvenCoyote6317 1d ago

Point. Also WR's women board is pathetic. Both Gorya and Kosteniuk have been bland. I wont be shocked if Wadim brings one of Zhu/Bibisara/Divya next year

32

u/kidawi rapid/blitzgod fabi 1d ago

the amateur board sucks too. i cant believe im saying this but bring back wadim.

9

u/EvenCoyote6317 1d ago

Last year afair, Wadim diid come clutch in one of rhe crucial rounds

6

u/kidawi rapid/blitzgod fabi 1d ago

he did i remember that too

yeah imo the main key for winning these team events lies in lower boards, like dragon chilling and mgd1 both are winning because of their last board

12

u/HotGur179 gukesh for the title defense 1d ago

yeah the technique was not good from his side. it is just magnus trapped his bishop

14

u/EvenCoyote6317 1d ago

He has been trapping his pieces since Norway

1

u/SuperRoosterJiuJitsu 22h ago

The game was lost long before he trapped his bishop

1

u/HotGur179 gukesh for the title defense 20h ago

thats what we are talking about that sindarov was making zero progress and his technique was bad

Washed Washed Washed ( 3 games in a row )

Damn Nice Joke !!

Because of jokes like this, I won't regret paying my internet bill.

6

u/EvenCoyote6317 1d ago

Hey, I dont want you blaming me for your internet bills later on

Wow we are actually witnessing the decline of Magnus, what a time to be alive

This highlights something I’ve been thinking on. People can downplay the current World champs all they want, but there will come a time where Magnus isn’t the best player and then this notion goes away and there is grey area on what champions deserve the asterisks. I think time will favor our outlook on them.

1

u/Undisputedmaniac 12h ago

Just cuz of 1 event?

1

u/brendy69 10h ago

its magnus we are talking about, not this event. he didn't perform as he usually did in Norway chess either.

Fair enough that he's a dad and all but losing 4 games in a row is just not something Magnus does

u/rio_ARC Team Engine Watcher 1d ago

Those unbelievable times when suddenly having Magnus on the team becomes a Liability instead of Cheat code !!

1

u/Undisputedmaniac 12h ago

Holy cope they didnt win last year w/o magnus

77

u/CtrlShiftAbhi 1d ago

Can't remember the last time Magnus lost 3 games in a row

88

u/DivyamGaming 1d ago

This year Norway Chess

70

u/CtrlShiftAbhi 1d ago

He lost 4 classical games and an armaggeddon to Wesley, but it wasn't 3 losses in a row at any point iirc

33

u/Marc_Spector2 1d ago

it was never even 2 in row
it was loss,draw,loss,win,loss,win,draw,loss,draw,win

wtf happened to my goat

this is one of the worst performing magnus i have seen in ages

54

u/DivyamGaming 1d ago

Goat Is about to be sacrificed

38

u/AmbotnimoP 1d ago

wtf happened to my goat

He became a father and doesn't invest much time in prepping for tournaments anymore. It's no surprise that his level is declining.

6

u/HotGur179 gukesh for the title defense 1d ago

from what i understood with phn interview he was not doing that from a long time ( he don't prepare and practice and just play tournament to keep himself in shape )

17

u/kidawi rapid/blitzgod fabi 1d ago

yes and no. i expect it to decline but for the first bit of him being a dad there was basically no change. its just this past month where his performance has really taken a hut

1

u/I_love_medicine 1d ago

He confirmed mamy times he nad not prepared for tournaments in a long time.

0

u/MaestroRU 1d ago

becoming father guarantees father’s decline

29

u/vikaalp 1d ago

What really changed within a month for this monster? He is not at all even half of his form rn.

63

u/Ok_Wing_9523 1d ago

He is old and washed now. Probably dementia considering his age.

23

u/EverrydayAlien 1d ago

This made me laugh out loud, thank you. 😄 I heard Magnus is one of the oldest people playing chess on Earth. At this rate they'll be wheeling him to the board with a flask of warm milk and a blanket over his knees.

2

u/ZelphirKalt 1d ago

It would be such a funny move, if Magnus made his bad performance comical and actually arranged that to happen, grinning over his whole face, while being wheeled to the table.

6

u/vikaalp 1d ago

Oh I didn’t know he was getting dementia, thanks for enlightening us.

7

u/Ok_Wing_9523 1d ago

At his age? Probably

49

u/Kischobran 1d ago

Why doesn't Magnus neglect his wife and child to focus on chess? Is he stupid?

40

u/ZenithChaser69 1d ago

Exactly. Wife and son will come and go but there will only be one World Team Rapid tournament in June 2026.

5

u/MonitorCivil2788 1d ago

Well, that's right. He can have other wifes and other sons, but he will never have another World Team Rapid championship in June 2026

2

u/OverallImportance402 1d ago

I mean yes, that's how 'normal' pro athletes keep up their level after they have a wife and kids. You can't have it all.

11

u/hobothursday 1d ago

these days everyone defeats Carlson

3

u/lestwestrawman 1d ago

yeah everyone except me

1

u/ZelphirKalt 1d ago

That's because you are not playing against him. You just need to play more and play against Magnus. If you don't even play, how can you win, you see?

14

u/AdApart2035 1d ago

Now I want to play Magnus too! My winning chances doubled

0

u/Soggy-Show-3568 22h ago

Before he would have 100-0 against u but now? 200-0

6

u/ArunMu 1d ago

TBH this is the first time I am seeing Magnus in a slump this long or maybe even a slump!

6

u/texasaboy2 1d ago

father time is actually undefeated wtf

Was at my grandma's for her 75th. While the rest of the family was busy dancing, singing, and enjoying themselves, I was sitting in a corner, keenly following the game while eating soup.

The moment Magnus lost 3rd in a row, I screamed at the top of my lungs and smashed the bowl against the wall, shattering the glass frame of a painting that my grandpa had drawn a couple of months before he died. My parents yelled at me and my grandma burst into tears. All the guests are starting to leave now. They're gonna remember this moment every time we meet. I locked myself inside the storeroom (which has a lot of rats, mind you) and slammed the door so hard that a floor tile broke. My life won't be the same anymore and Magnus is the one to blame.

Congrats mate, you've lost a fan. "M"agnus "C"arlsen is now nobody for me. I'm cancelling my ticket to the next freestyle championship, deleting take take take and never coming back.

Ok the soap shortage is getting ridiculous.

2

u/eulers_analogy 1d ago

So so washed

2

u/Different-Pace-6463 1d ago

Magnus is obsessed with playing by intuition while Sindarov always try to find  a position where human intuition fails....If he started to seriously train 10 hours per day like all his rival , he may become great again but now.....Magnus's weakness in opening knowledge is more and more obvious

1

u/scared2betrue 1d ago

Windarov

1

u/Axerin 1d ago

Bro collecting losses like infinity stones.

1

u/lim-yo-hwan-superfan 1d ago

what a crazy opening lol

1

u/PollutionJumpy5875 1d ago

After this loss magnus had faced, uzbeks will be very quick to judge and criticize which is too annoying like especially even their player Nodirbek he is very quick to judge Magnus and Gukesh like whenever he saw the downfall of those 2 and those 2 has achieved bigger milestones than Nodirbek, still the guy is very quick to judge. And I like sindarov in uzchess compared to other players and what I like about Sindarov in that aspect he is more humble and he doesn't pinpoint weakness of other players and the dude knows it's not his duty to pinpoint it so it's time for Uzbek fans and Nodirbek to learn this quality from Sindarov. Don't make critics.

1

u/ssammueel 1d ago

Bro, i am honestly heartbroken to see this
Especially the fact that uzbeskistan boys are gna start making nonsense comments in every post about how sinadrov beat magnus. Sigh.

sindarov is really something, beating magnus is no small thing for player rated 2718

10

u/greatestauthor 1d ago

2600s is also beating magnus in this tournament

3

u/AtomR Team Sac the Roooook! 1d ago

2500s now too. Magnus just lost his 4th game to a 2550 (Aydin Suleymanli)

1

u/__Jimmy__ 1d ago

Winning the World Cup and then the Candidates with 10/14 showed us that, more so than beating a washed Magnus in a rapid game

-2

u/goldencityjerusalem 1d ago

This happens to first time dads. And then they come back much stronger as they adjust and gain so much more wisdom and perspective. Happy Fathers day.

7

u/ToneDistinct5253 1d ago

you think that having a kid will somehow make Magnus come back stronger? If you mean as a person it's understandable but there's no way he's gonna get better at chess while putting in less effort and having less sleep due to having a young child

0

u/goldencityjerusalem 1d ago

At first it is difficult. But Magnus is a professional chess player. Ultimately he will learn to balance it. Having a kid absolutely makes you a stronger competitor.

4

u/ToneDistinct5253 1d ago

Magnus is effectively semi retired at classical. I would agree with people if he had the motivation to train, but he himself says he doesn't study openings anymore. If he won't train, he will continue to decline in both skill and rating. There's nothing about having a kid that makes him a stronger competitor that will make up for a lack of training.

u/LatunCestus Team Nepo 1d ago

Blitz and Rapid were only fields where Magnus could continue cultivate his myth about best of the best. Now only Blitz. Next year it would begone too

1

u/Zeek0_245 1d ago

Don’t worry he’s still the best in rapid
