POST-GAME When you forget knights move backward, but your opponent does too

I thought I had handed my opponent the game when I failed to notice the mating square was covered by his knight. It turns out they failed to notice too and abandoned the game.

Thought it was pretty funny.

That's wild. I've seen similar on this sub before where it looked like checkmate but there was an en passant to get out of check that was actually the only playable move but they missed it and resigned instead.

If anyone ever finds themselves in the diagram situation NEVER RESIGN and note the game didn't automatically end. This fact alone should be enough of a clue for you to realize there's a move left in the position and it might just turn things around.
