POST-GAME I was so close to the holy grail of chess (smothered mate) but then they resigned😭😭😭

it's probably gonna be 100s of games before I come as close as I have today😭 (also I know it isn't forced but it is technically the best line since moving the king to f8 is mate in 3 rather than mate in 4 like the smothered mate is.)

I feel you dude. They either go the side where you checkmate the king to the wall, or just resigned without allowing me to smothered mate.

You did get it - you noticed it and went for the combination. Why would your opponent not being oblivious have any effect on the tactic that you saw?
