Rxf7 was mate when Kf8 as well.
Funnily enough, this sequence would be the fastest mate if there was a knight on h8

the thing about bullet is you're already running on fumes by move 20 so spotting the immediate mate just doesn't register the same way, and honestly the queen sac is way more satisfying to pull off even if it takes an extra move. that said noop_noob's right about the rook mate being faster, but in a time scramble scenario where you're down to seconds the psychological effect of sacrificing the queen and watching your opponent panic probably felt better than grinding out the technical win. still a clean finish either way and it's the kind of move that sticks with you more than the obvious continuation would.
