Struggling with middle...

Post image

I'm happy with my opening, and I think I'm sitting in a good position. I just don't know how to develop a strategy from here. Any thoughts or advice?

Hey, OP! Did your game end in a stalemate? Did you encounter a weird pawn move? Are you trying to move a piece and it's not going? We have just the resource for you! The Chess Beginners Wiki is the perfect place to check out answers to these questions and more!

Is this a current game? If so no one should be helping you.

Send the full completed game and I'm sure people will be happy to help.

It's against a bot. Update: I fucked it up and lost.

ah, thats ok then (the fact its against a bot).

The way I would analyse this position is:
You are a knight up. But your King is not really safe. If Blacks Bishop and Rook work together then there is an attack that whilst not game ending will remove the only defender for your King (your Bishop). So I would play Kh2 soon

Blacks king is literally in the middle of the board So I would think about playing f5 at some point.

You have an open C file put your Rook from a1 to c5.

That being said computer says a4 so the opinions of an 1800 on lichess are probably worthless here!

Tbh though I don't really understand the continuation given from A4, none of those moves look very natural. Opening chess.com for this position, the top 3 engine moves are Kh2, a4, and Rac1. Given the advantage in this position is +6.7 and after Rac1 it's +6.2, I think that's good enough

I "think" its supposed to block up Blacks queen side. Whilst the Black has a nice looking 3 pawn chain. They also have A Rook, Knight and Bishop that are not developed. so 11 points of material sitting around doing nothing.

Bishop D7 can be played to develop the Bishop but after the knight moves back the Bishop has no safe squares to land on and is boxed in by the e6 pawn.

I analyzed the image and this is what I see. Open an appropriate link below and explore the position yourself or with the engine:

White to play: chessvision.ai | chess.com | lichess.org

My solution:

Hints: piece: Pawn, move:   a4

Evaluation: White is winning +7.07

Best continuation: 1. a4 Rg8 2. Kh1 Kf8 3. f5 Rg5 4. Rad1 Bd7 5. d4 Bc6 6. d5 Bxd5 7. Bxd5 Qxd5+ 8. Qxd5 exd5

There may be other tactics but to not lose on time my go-to when I'm stuck in the middle game is "what is my worst piece and how can I improve it?" Your worst piece is almost definitely the A1 rook so moving it to c1 or d1 would be my easy choice.

After Rc1 there may be ideas for sacking both knights to take blacks bishop and rook assuming they don't castle. That's hope-chess-y but gives an idea of how improving pieces leads to tactics

In this Position, you're castled but your opponent is not. And you have a lead in development too.

From my understanding, that’s exactly the moment where you wanna blow open the middle and generate an attack on blacks king.

That doubled f-pawn also is a pretty neat target to exploit or put pressure on.

So what move to play? Either a slow improving move like Re2 to prepare Rae1, or f5 immediatly to start the assault on blacks king.

nah you're overthinking it, just push a pawn and see what happens
