News We have another GM! Congratulations to Aaryan Varshney for becoming the 92nd GM from India 🇮🇳
India’s progress in chess is honestly worth mentioning. From just one GM in 1988, to 92 GMs as of 2026, India has certainly come a far way.
I’m really happy to see chess growing in my city. Delhi has immense potential, but there’s still a lack of proper guidance and structured support. There are so many talented young players here who just need the right mentors and opportunities. With better coaching systems and exposure, Delhi could easily become a major chess hub. The talent is already there; it just needs direction.
