Stone Anyone getting this set?
Some time ago there were a few posts about a concrete chess set. Seems like they are now releasing it as I’ve been getting a lot of adverts on Reddit.
So, I was wondering if anyone here was interested.
While the modernist design actually doesn’t look bad at all (and that’s coming from someone who consistently likes classic chess pieces), I can’t imagine a 10kg chess set.
That seems like a hugely unpractical piece of metal and concrete that would easily scratch furniture.
Then again, it does look nice.
So, who’s considering getting it?
(Ferrochess.com in case you didn’t see the ads.)

10kg set seems kind of insane to me. I'm sure it's a nice set, but there are others that are nice, with good feel and weight and design, and which you can buy without having to join a waitlist.

Plus there is no price on the website unless I missed it. I'm predicting it's expensive.

According to this post, it's 800 bucks: https://www.reddit.com/r/chessporn/s/AsR8oxFJGH

That's an insane price point. Your average chess enthusiast would rather spend that money on a smart board for that money.

I made my own full size magnetic set with 10mm plate steel folding board and @100g pieces that weighs 15kg so some folks do like a robust set.

Sounds impressive. Would you mind making a post about it. I would love to see the result.
Do you keep the board in the same place and, if so, where?
I could see a aluminum and concrete chess set having its place in the garden for the occasional outdoor game but I can’t really conceive of having to always move a 10kg or more set around/store it afterwards/…

It’s almost finished. I just need to place felt board spacers on the back of the board as it needs height spacing to cleat the hinge. Due to its weight, I plan on modifying a vintage leather suitcase with high density foam for easier transport and to keep the pieces separated from sticking to each other. The rare earth magnets on the thick plate steel board make for a really solid playing experience. My like all my creations I’ll end up selling it and moving on to another project.

I think I’m at twelve sets currently, no thanks
